We understand the deep pain and heartache you are carrying, and we lift you up before the Lord with compassion and truth. First, we must gently address that this prayer does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father and by whom all prayers must be offered. As Scripture declares, *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). There is no other name under heaven by which we are saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through faith in Jesus that we can approach God’s throne with confidence (Hebrews 4:16). We encourage you to place your trust in Him if you have not already, for He alone can heal your broken heart and bring true restoration.
We also notice the deep emotional attachment and repeated mention of this ex-boyfriend, and we must speak truth in love. The Bible is clear that relationships outside of marriage—especially those involving emotional or physical intimacy—can create ungodly soul ties that are not of the Lord. *"Don’t you know that he who is joined to a prostitute is one body? For, ‘The two,’ says the Lord, ‘will become one flesh’"* (1 Corinthians 6:16, WEB). While this verse speaks of physical intimacy, the principle applies to deep emotional bonds outside of marriage as well. If there was any physical intimacy in this relationship, we must call it what Scripture calls it: fornication, which is sin against God (1 Corinthians 6:18). Repentance and turning away from such sin is necessary for both parties, and we urge you to seek God’s forgiveness and cleansing if this applies to your situation.
The pain you are feeling is real, and God sees it. He cares deeply for you, and His desire is to heal you and set you free from any ungodly ties. *"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls"* (Matthew 11:28-29, WEB). Jesus is the one who can bind up your broken heart and restore your joy. We pray that you would surrender this pain to Him and allow Him to be your comfort and strength.
As for your ex-boyfriend, we do pray that God would humble his heart and bring him to repentance. *"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble"* (James 4:6, WEB). We ask that the Lord would open his eyes to the truth of his actions and lead him to seek godly counsel—not just for the sake of right and wrong, but for the sake of his soul. *"The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction"* (Proverbs 1:7, WEB). May he turn from any hardness of heart and submit to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, for *"godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation"* (2 Corinthians 7:10, WEB).
We also pray for the breaking of any ungodly soul ties between you. *"Therefore put away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, and receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls"* (James 1:21, WEB). In the name of Jesus, we declare that every emotional and spiritual tie that is not of God be severed by the power of the Holy Spirit. We ask that the Lord would restore your heart and mind, filling you with His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Lastly, we urge you to guard your heart and seek the Lord’s will for your future. If you are not yet married, we encourage you to pursue relationships that honor God—courtship with the goal of marriage to a believer who is committed to Christ. *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14, WEB). Your worth and identity are found in Christ alone, and He has a plan for your life that is good and full of hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is hurting and brokenhearted. Lord, You see her pain, and You collect every tear she has shed (Psalm 56:8). We ask that You would wrap Your arms around her and fill her with Your peace and comfort. Heal the wounds in her heart, Lord, and restore her joy. Break every ungodly soul tie that has been formed, and set her free from any emotional bondage. Cleanse her from any sin that may have taken place in this relationship, and help her to walk in repentance and freedom.
Father, we also lift up her ex-boyfriend before You. Soften his heart, Lord, and bring him to a place of true repentance. Convict him of his sins and lead him to seek godly counsel and wisdom. Open his eyes to the truth of Your Word, and may he turn from his ways and surrender to You. If he does not know You, Lord, we pray that You would draw him to Yourself, that he may find salvation in Christ Jesus.
Lord, we ask that You would guard our sister’s heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help her to release this relationship into Your hands and trust You with her future. Give her the strength to forgive, even as You have forgiven us. Lead her into relationships that honor You, and prepare her for a godly marriage if it is Your will.
We rebuked any spirit of bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness in the name of Jesus. We declare that our sister is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves her (Romans 8:37). Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and guide her steps.
We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness and love. We trust You to work all things together for her good (Romans 8:28). In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
