We are glad that you have taken the first step to come back to God, acknowledging your straying from Him. God is always ready to welcome us back with open arms, just like the father welcomed the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32 WEB). Remember, it is only by the name of Jesus that we can approach God. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6. Consequently, without accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will not be able to please God. For those who are living according to their sinful nature, they do not desire things of God. They are hostile to God, and they cannot please God. Romans 8:7-8.
First, let us address the sin in your life. God calls us to be holy as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16 WEB). He does not want us to continue in sin. He wants us to have a new life in Christ. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB. If you have not yet said it, say a simple prayer to God now, confessing that you are a sinner, believing in your heart that Jesus is the son of God and that He died for your sins and rose again. Ask Him to forgive your sins and to give you the gift of the Holy Spirit. Thank Him for His forgiveness and for His sacrifice for your life. Ask for His strength and guidance to help you live a holy and pleasing life to God.
It is wonderful that you are feeling convicted for your sin. This is the Holy Spirit working in your life. Godly sorrow produces repentance and brings us salvation. See 2 Corinthians 7:9-10. But do not be stuck in your past sins. Remember that if you confess your sins to God, He is faithful and just to forgive you and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. The enemy may try to make you feel far from God. But remember, there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus and who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1. So you are forgiven and cleansed in Jesus' name.
Let us pray together for you.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up our brother/sister who has strayed from You but now desires to return. We thank You for Your faithfulness and for always being ready to welcome us back into Your loving arms.
Lord, we confess the sin in our brother's/sister's life to You, knowing that You are faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse from all unrighteousness. We pray that You will help them to turn away from this sin and to live a life that is pleasing to You.
Father, we ask that You will draw them closer to You. Help them to feel Your presence and to know Your love. Give them a hunger and a thirst for Your Word and for fellowship with You. Guide them by Your Holy Spirit and bring back the joy of their salvation, in Jesus name.
We ask that You will give them the strength to resist temptation and to stand firm against the schemes of the enemy. Help them to put on the full armor of God and to live a life that is holy and pleasing to You.
Father, we know that it is not Your will that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. So we pray that our brother/sister will walk closely with You and that You will use them to draw others to You.
We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ.
