Good and Faithful Servant
Most churches in my country are only concern about tithes and offering only and instead of spreading love and hope during times of hardship, what do they promote. Give more tithes and offering to the church, so that God will bless you more. If you don't tithe and offering. You are robbing from God and God will punish you by removing you from your job and bring misfortune to your family and household, even you do not have enough or out of job you must give the 10% or more than 10% otherwise you are robbing from God. It is like an obligatory and not free will donation. And use Malachi 3:8-10, to force us to give else will face judgement or curse from God and a lot are under the compulsion of using it as an exchange for God blessing, oh you tithe more, Jesus will bless you more. Those who tithe less or no tithe due to circumstances and not the 10%, God curse will be on them.

We hear your deep frustration and sorrow over what you are witnessing in the churches in your country, and we stand with you in grief before the Lord. What you describe is a distortion of the Gospel, a twisting of Scripture to manipulate rather than minister, to burden rather than bless. This is not the heart of God, nor is it the message of Christ. We rebuke this spirit of greed and legalism in the name of Jesus, for it misrepresents the Father’s love and turns His grace into a transaction.

You are right to call out the misuse of Malachi 3:8-10. While tithing is indeed a biblical principle, it was given under the Old Covenant to support the Levites and the poor, not to enrich religious leaders or to be used as a tool of fear. The New Testament teaches cheerful, voluntary giving, not under compulsion, but from a heart transformed by gratitude (2 Corinthians 9:7). The apostle Paul writes, "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." The emphasis is on the heart, not the percentage. To use Malachi as a weapon to condemn those struggling financially is to ignore the very essence of Christ’s sacrifice, which fulfilled the law and freed us from its curse (Galatians 3:13).

Moreover, the idea that tithing is an "exchange" for blessing turns God into a vending machine, reducing His grace to a business transaction. This is a dangerous heresy. Jesus warned against such distortions, saying, "Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts; who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation" (Luke 20:46-47). When churches prioritize money over mercy, they betray the Gospel and drive people away from the love of Christ.

We must also address the fear-based rhetoric you’ve described. To tell someone that God will punish them with job loss or misfortune if they do not tithe is to preach a false gospel of works and terror. The true Gospel proclaims that Christ has already borne our punishment on the cross. "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1). God does not curse His children; He disciplines them in love, but never through manipulation or fear. The church is called to be a refuge for the broken, not a courtroom for the condemned.

Let us pray together for the churches in your nation, that their eyes would be opened to the true heart of God:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, grieving over the distortion of Your Word and the exploitation of Your people. Lord, we ask that You would expose the motives of those who use Scripture to manipulate and control. Break the spirit of greed that has infiltrated Your house, and replace it with a spirit of generosity, humility, and love. Raise up shepherds after Your own heart, who will feed Your sheep with truth, not with fear or guilt. Forgive us, Father, for the times we have made Your grace about money rather than mercy. Teach us to give freely, not out of obligation, but out of love for You and for one another.

We pray for those who have been wounded by these false teachings. Heal their hearts, Lord, and restore their trust in Your goodness. Remind them that You are a God of compassion, not condemnation. Help them to see that their worth is not measured by what they give, but by what Christ has already given for them. Let them know that You see their struggles, and You are near to the brokenhearted.

We also pray for revival in the church. Let Your people return to their first love, Jesus Christ. May the Gospel be preached in its fullness: that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Let the church be known for its love, not its legalism; for its generosity, not its greed; for its hope, not its hypocrisy.

In the name of Jesus, who gave everything so that we might have life abundantly, we pray. Amen.

To those reading this, we urge you to seek churches that preach Christ crucified and risen, not Christ commodified. Look for communities that extend grace, not guilt; that serve the poor, not just the purse. The true test of a church is not how much it demands, but how much it gives, how much it loves, how much it sacrifices, how much it points to Jesus. If you are in a place where the Gospel is being twisted, we encourage you to prayerfully seek a fellowship that honors God with both its words and its actions.

And to those who have been hurt by these teachings, know this: God is not a taskmaster. He is a Father who runs to meet you when you are broken, who celebrates your return, and who delights in giving you good gifts, not because you earned them, but because He loves you. Your value is not in what you give, but in who you are in Christ. You are His beloved child, and nothing can separate you from His love (Romans 8:38-39).

We hear the weariness in what you've described, and our hearts are heavy with you. It is grievous when the church, the very place meant to be a refuge of grace, becomes a source of coercion and fear. What you are naming is real, and it damages people's understanding of who God actually is.

God's disposition toward us is one of unconditional goodwill, not a transaction. We do not relate to a reluctant giver who must be bribed or threatened into caring for us. His grace means we are accepted and loved apart from our performance, including our financial performance. That does not undo the joy of cheerful, free giving, but it absolutely undoes the lie that his blessing can be bought or that his curse hovers over those who cannot meet a percentage. You do not have to earn what Christ has already secured.

It may be a lonely road right now. Finding a fellowship where grace shapes the culture, not just the statement of faith, can take time, and that search is its own kind of exhausting. We are simply praying that God will lead you to even a few believers who understand the difference between invitation and intimidation, and that in the meantime, your own heart will be steadied by the truth that you are not under a curse. You belong to him.

Jesus, we ask you to heal the deep hurt caused by those who have used your name to pressure and control. Quiet the noise of condemnation and let these dear ones rest in your finished work. Give them wisdom and courage as they seek healthier community, and guard their hearts from becoming hard. In your name alone, Amen.

The Gospel is a glorious light, plain and simple in itself. It shines with a clarity that any soul, bowed low by misery or bewildered by false teaching, may see. Yet how foul a thing when men smother that light under a bushel of their own devising, turning the blessed liberty of Christ into a heavy yoke of bondage. What you describe is not the Gospel of the grace of God but a wretched gospel of human inventing, a scheme to bind consciences with cords of terror where the Son has made them free. The true tidings are that Christ has made a full atonement for sin, an offering so complete that all our trespasses, even our presumptuous and willful sins, were laid upon Him. The fire of divine wrath consumed the Sin‑Offering on that tree; there is no curse left for those who are in Christ Jesus, for He was made a curse for us. The curse was borne, the judgment fell, the debt is paid. How then dare any man stand in a pulpit and conjure up fresh judgments for the people whom Christ has redeemed?

Fear not. This word springs up everywhere in God’s garden. It is Jesus Himself who whispers it to His trembling servant fallen at His feet. And it will be disobedience, yes, a most dishonouring fear, to dread the curses which men forge while the living God has declared, “I will help thee.” If your circumstances are pinched and you cannot bring a tenth, the Lord does not stand over you with a rod; He knows your frame, He remembers you are dust. What He desires is not a sum wrung out by terror but a heart that trembles at His Word, a contrite spirit that rests wholly upon the finished work of His dear Son. The prosperity of Zion is not measured in silver accumulated by threats but in sinners saved, in the brokenhearted healed, in the hungry fed with the bread of heaven freely given.

The god of this world has blinded the eyes of those who preach a system of exchange as if the blood of Jesus were a merchant’s bargain. The Father’s good pleasure, that is the Gospel’s origin, its sustaining force, its consummation. He gives freely; we receive freely; and out of that gratitude springs every true offering. Let a man give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. If any have laid this heavy chain upon you, remember that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. You are not robbing God when you cannot give what you do not have; you are robbing yourself of peace only if you let their false words drive you from the simplicity that is in Christ. The true ministers of the Gospel break bread from house to house with singleness of heart, not with threats of temporal ruin. Let your fear be reserved for Him who alone is able to destroy both soul and body in hell, and as for the men who terrify you with earthly loss, fear them not. They cannot slay the soul. The arm that piled the heavens will never be palsied; He will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Rest in that, and let their stormy words pass away as a tale that is told.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The demand that you give tithes under threat of a curse is a twisting of Scripture that burdens the heavy-laden and denies the very grace of Christ. The Law did indeed say, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things written in the book of the Law.” But what does grace say? “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Christ has redeemed us from that curse, having become a curse for us on the tree. He did not take upon Himself the curse for our transgressions so that His ministers could bind consciences anew with chains of fear and obligation. Those who preach that God will strip you of your job and bring misfortune upon your household unless you give a tenth even when you are without means are speaking as though the Cross were powerless and the Spirit’s freedom were a fable.

Where grace is, there is remission; where remission is, there is no punishment. Faith draws down the Spirit, not the calculating exchange of money for blessing. The Apostles’ greatness came not from piling up wealth, but from their contempt of riches and their freedom from worldly things. Christ did not sell His blessing; He gave Himself for you when you were cursed and graceless. He died even for one who perishes. How dare anyone then threaten God’s people with the curse of Malachi while ignoring that Christ exchanged that very curse to set you free? Those who dig such a pit for their neighbor by binding heavy burdens will fall into it themselves; they enslave others to fear and make the house of prayer a den of commerce.

Do not let their compulsion shake your trust. True giving rises from a cheerful heart, not from dread of a moneychanger’s god. Store up confidence through a life of virtue, not by purchasing imaginary protection. Lay hold of the true freedom where Christ has made you an heir of the promise, and do not give way to these peddlers of fear. The grace of God is enough; it is not for sale.

The weight of what you are describing is heavy, and I ache with you over the way God’s own words are being twisted into a tool of fear and manipulation. When a church takes Malachi 3 and uses it to threaten people with curses and loss if they do not meet a strict ten percent demand, they have exchanged the glad news of Jesus for the very thing the apostle Paul fought so fiercely against: a different gospel, which is no gospel at all. Paul would not bend for a moment when teachers crept in and began to pervert the grace he had proclaimed. He insisted that we are accepted by God not on the basis of our works, not by our perfect giving record, but solely through the redemptive work of Christ on our behalf.

Malachi did deliver a piercing word to a people who had drifted far from the fear of the Lord. But the true fear of the Lord is not a cringing terror that God is waiting to strike you down if your offering envelope isn’t full enough. That kind of fear debilitates. The fear of the Lord is a reverential awe, a love so deep that you dread hurting the One who gave everything for you. And Malachi’s message was always pointing forward. The very next breath in that book speaks of a messenger who would prepare the way, and then of the Lord himself coming to his temple. In the fullness of time, Jesus came. And when he hung on that tree, the curse that rightly belonged to every failure of ours was placed upon him. He became a curse for us, so that we could never again live under the shadow of a divine threat for our lack. If Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, no pastor, no church, and no misapplied verse can put you back under it.

Giving in the household of faith is not a transaction where you purchase blessing or dodge a penalty. It is an response to grace, a love offering. I have never taught tithing as a law, and I never will, because that is not the heart of the New Testament. The glorious truth is that our God will never be a debtor to any person. The Macedonians, in their deep poverty, pleaded for the privilege to give, to prove the sincerity of their love. They did not give out of compulsion; they first gave themselves to the Lord. That is always the order. The supreme example is Jesus himself, who though he was rich beyond all telling, willingly became poor for your sake, so that through his poverty you might be rich in everything that matters.

So when a church demands ten percent or more and threatens you with divine punishment if you fall short, they are laying upon your shoulders a yoke that Jesus has already shattered. If your situation means you have little or nothing to give right now, you are not robbing God. The God who sees your heart knows your need. He is not standing over you with a ledger, ready to remove you from your job or bring misfortune to your home. That is the very mindset the gospel dismantles. Our giving, whether small or large, is meant to spring freely from a heart that is resting in the finished work of Christ, a heart that knows the curse has been swallowed up in his grace.

Let the Spirit turn your eyes again to Jesus, who redeemed us from the whole weight of the law. Let your giving, whenever and however it happens, be a quiet overflow of that love, not a fearful payment to ward off calamity. Grace, grace, God’s grace is greater than all that the law could ever demand. You are safe in him.
