You desire a wife; this is no small thing, and you do well to bring it before the Lord. Yet remember, if God appoints such a union, it is not for you to dictate the how or the when. Shall the clay command the potter? The child of God trembles to impute unfaithfulness to Him, and in that holy fear finds a strong confidence. Cast yourself upon Divine Providence. His counsel is wonderfully made, and His timing perfect.

Look first to the marriage that never fails, the union of your soul to Christ. He loved us and gave Himself for us; we are partakers of the Divine nature, made one spirit with Him. This is the miracle of miracles. If you have indeed trusted in Him, you already possess eternal life; then every earthly mercy is an over, added gift, not a right. Seek first His kingdom, and let this desire be laid before Him with an open hand.

Our extremity is His opportunity. Should the Lord see fit to bring you a helpmate, He can clear every obstacle and make a way where there is none. Pray with importunity, but without presumption. True grace produces a holy watchfulness; we trust wholly in Christ, yet we do not tempt Him by claiming what He has not promised. If it be His will, He will send a woman who fears Him, whose heart is drawn to you, and who will not lightly turn aside. But the person, the place, the season, these must be left in His hands. Do not grow faint if the answer tarries; perseverance in prayer pleases the Master.

I pray that the Lord will work miracles in your life according to His good pleasure, that He will guide your steps, and that above all you may know the constraining love of Christ. Your desire for a godly wife is not wrong, for marriage is honorable and was instituted by God. Yet I fear you seek after signs and miracles as the unbelieving do, when the faithful ought to trust without such pledges. Do you not recall how our Lord rebuked those who demanded wonders? Miracles are for the grosser sort, not for those who are to walk by faith. The greatest miracle is already at work: that you, a sinner, have been drawn to seek a spouse in holiness and not in lust. Do not then fix your hope upon outward providences and peculiar circumstances, as if God must arrange a meeting trimmed with unmistakable signs. He who is truly seeking a helpmate after God’s heart will look less for a miracle and more for virtue.

Attend instead to the state of your own soul. A woman of genuine piety will not be won by a man who is impatient and demanding of tokens. Are you diligently following every good work? Are you crucified to the world, so that whether married or unmarried you may attend upon the Lord without distraction? For marriage, though pure, carries many worldly cares, and a wife is not given merely to satisfy loneliness but to be a companion in the race toward heaven. If you would have a woman who will not give up on you, be a man who will not give up on himself in the pursuit of holiness. The widow Anna, who served God with fastings and prayers night and day, was honored not because she sought a husband but because she clung to the Bridegroom of her soul. Even so, while you seek a wife, let your first devotion be to Christ. Invest your leisure not in anxious plotting but in prayer and service to the saints. Then the Lord, who sees your quiet fidelity, may in His time bring you to a woman whose true interest is not in your outward self but in the hidden man of the heart.

Moreover, do not suppose that a marriage formed by God will be free of trial. The Apostles themselves, who wrought great miracles, were not spared stripes and imprisonments. If you ask for a wife, prepare to lay down your life for her as Christ for the Church. Seek not a woman who merely will not give up on you, but one who will help you carry the cross daily. And when you meet her, be not quick to judge by appearances or immediate impressions, for true love is proved in the fire of time and mutual sacrifice. Pray, then, not for a miracle to capture her attention, but for the grace to become a man she may reverence as a fellow heir of life. I will pray that God, in His wisdom, orders your steps, not to satisfy a craving for certainty, but to bring about His holy will in your life and hers, whether you meet tomorrow or after many patient years.

Your prayer request shows a sincere desire for a marriage that honors God, and that is a good thing. The longing for companionship and love is something the Lord understands, for He designed man and woman to become one. In Scripture, marriage is described as a profound compound unity: two people, yet one. So it is right to bring this to the Father in Jesus’ name.

But consider how the disciples responded when Jesus called them. They left their nets and their own plans to follow Him immediately and fully. That is the pattern of discipleship: knowing Jesus first, above every other pursuit. When we make our primary goal a relationship or a miracle, even a good one, we can miss the deeper call to simply be with Him. The miracle that matters most is the transformation of your own heart into His likeness. If you seek that with all you are, He will guide everything else.

I also think about how Jesus, when the crowds pressed for miracles, often withdrew to quiet places, letting people come to Him. There is a lesson in that. Rather than anxiously striving to make something happen, trust that the Lord can orchestrate the meeting in His time and in practical ways you cannot manufacture. Pray, yes, but then rest in His wisdom. The kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed into the ground, then sleeps and rises night and day while the seed sprouts and grows in a way he does not fully see. Your part is to be faithful, grow in godly character, and stay close to Jesus.

Be careful how you measure this desire. If you measure out impatience, desperation, or a demand that God act on your terms, you may actually choke out the peace and contentment that are Christ’s gift to you right now. The cares of this life and the deceitfulness of wanting something so badly can drown out the spiritual fruitfulness He intends. Instead, measure out trust, patience, and a heart that says, “Your will be done.” With the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. If you plant seeds of quiet faith and genuine interest in the things of God, He will bring the increase in His season.

I am praying that God will send the right woman at the right time, someone who shares a real interest in knowing you and who will not give up. But above all, I pray you experience the miracle of a life rooted deeply in Christ, where you shine as an example that the spiritual life is far superior to anything the world offers.
