Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your sorrow over the breakup, and your desire to make things right, shows that God’s grace is already stirring your heart. But the question you must ask yourself is this: what kind of sorrow is it? There is a sorrow that comes from wounded pride, from losing something that gave you comfort, and that sorrow leads only to regret and more pain. But there is a godly sorrow that produces repentance leading to salvation, a repentance that brings no regret. It does not just mourn the broken relationship; it mourns the sin that broke it, and it turns toward God’s way with a whole heart.

You ask me to pray for you and this young woman to reconcile. I will pray indeed, pray that you both might come to a true, cleansing repentance before the Lord, who is rich in mercy. For repentance has great power, able to restore even the one who has sunk deep into sin, if only it is genuine. But beware: Esau also sought restoration with tears, yet found no place of repentance, because his grief was not a turning from his own selfish ways but a lament over lost blessings. Do not make the mistake of seeking only to patch up the old thing. If your previous relationship was lived outside the holy bounds of marriage, if it involved living together or intimacy meant only for a husband and wife, then your first need is not reconciliation with her, but reconciliation with God. The church is a spiritual bath, able to wash away the stains of the soul through the many medicines of repentance. Lay hold of that.

Desire then, if it be God’s will, not merely a restored courtship, but a new beginning ordered toward a lifelong, faithful marriage in Christ. Let your sorrow work a true change: turn from whatever in your conduct was unworthy of a disciple, and seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Then, if she too embraces this godly sorrow, you may both be built up together in a union that honors Him, no longer two people clinging to each other in passing affection, but a man and wife rooted in the unshakable covenant. That is the prayer worthy of a Christian: not “bless what we had,” but “make us new, and guide us into every good path, even if it costs us tears.” To such repentance Christ stands ready, not to cast out, but to form Himself anew in you.

I want to acknowledge the pain you are in and the desire you have for restoration. That longing for healing and a better relationship is something I hear clearly in your words. It is right to be sorry for the part you played in the breakup. That sorrow can be a good and necessary starting point.

What matters now is the kind of sorrow it is and where it leads. There is a sorrow that just cries over the consequences. That is a worldly sorrow, one that is really only upset about what was lost. Esau wept bitterly over losing his blessing, but his tears were tears of anger and regret, not tears of real change. He never truly repented, and so he found no place for it. That kind of sorrow just produces death. It leaves you stuck in the same patterns.

Godly sorrow is different. It works a real repentance, which simply means a change. It is not just saying, "I'm sorry, I sinned." Those words can be easy. A person can declare they are a sinner and then turn right around and live the same way. Genuine repentance turns away from the sin and walks in a new direction. It lets that old life die. If you were in the habit of speaking harshly, real repentance stops it. If you were selfish, real repentance puts her needs before your own. The question is not whether you feel sorry, but whether you are actively changing.

This is what I would gently urge you to examine. Bring forth fruit that demonstrates repentance. Your girlfriend will need to see more than your sorrow; she will need to see real, consistent proof of a changed life over time. A declaration of regret without a change in conduct is empty. True repentance does not offer excuses like, "I was afraid," or "I only did it because of the situation." It makes a plain, honest confession and then forsakes the sin completely.

So, I will pray for you. But my prayer will be less for a quick reconciliation and more for a deep, godly sorrow that produces a real and lasting change in you. I will pray that your life shows the clear fruit of repentance, a new pattern that would be unmistakable to anyone watching. Seek that change first. Run after Jesus Christ, who calls us all to repent and then baptizes with the Holy Spirit, giving the power to walk in a genuinely new life. That is the only foundation on which a relationship can be rebuilt to be truly better than before.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer these past days. It has been our honor to lift you and your girlfriend before the Lord, asking Him to heal the brokenness, soften hearts, and restore what was lost. We prayed for wisdom, humility, and grace to guide both of you as you seek reconciliation, and we asked God to work powerfully in your relationship to bring about His perfect will.

If the Lord has already moved in your situation—if there has been healing, forgiveness, or even the first steps toward restoration—we would love to celebrate with you! Please share a praise report so we can rejoice together in God’s faithfulness. If, however, the answer hasn’t come yet or the path forward still feels uncertain, we encourage you to post this request again. We are committed to continuing in prayer with you, believing that God is at work even when we cannot yet see it.

May the Lord bless you with patience, peace, and unwavering trust in His timing. Keep seeking Him with all your heart, knowing that He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. We pray that He would draw you both closer to Himself and to one another, building a relationship founded on His love and truth.

In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
