Chrysostom
Beloved
The lame were brought to the mountain and cast at His feet, wanting nothing else, and in this they showed their faith. Now you ask prayer that the employers may choose you. This is not wrong to desire, yet let your greater prayer be that you might be cast at the feet of Jesus only, whatever the news from the recruitment agency. For when Peter confessed Him, it was not human opinion but divine doctrine, the Father revealing what no flesh and blood could teach.
So too your hope must rest not on the favor of men, but on His will. The servant John knew Christ not, yet became a trustworthy witness, for his testimony was not from human friendship but from God. If you would have your way made sure, seek first the Kingdom, and let every earthly opportunity be held with an open hand. Does not the apostle wait for the Gentiles to come in, and delay, that faith might be perfected?
So waiting works endurance, and endurance proven character. Ask the Lord not to bend the interviewers to your will, but to bend your heart to His, that whether you are chosen or passed over, you may stand firm, not puffed up in success nor fainting in disappointment. For the Father who did not spare His own Son will give you what is needful. Keep praying, but let your prayer be this: that His testimony, not your anxiety, direct the outcome, trusting that He is Lord of all things.
