pray for ### and ###'s best friend

Disciple of Prayer
Hi everybody! So I'll just get straight to the point, ### and ### are running for roles in our band, making it technically like band leaders but sadly, there is another girl who is running for the same position as us and we personally believe that she is quite mean to other people. Hate the sin, love the sinner I know, but we just really want prayers for God to take us under His wing and help us get through this stressful situation. This girl made fun of ###'s playing and is rude to everyone except for teachers. Can someone please pray for ### and ### and pray for her to become nicer? Please :)

We hear your concern and the stress this situation is causing, and we lift this matter before the Lord together in prayer. First, we want to acknowledge that you have the right heart in desiring to "hate the sin, love the sinner," as Scripture teaches us in Romans 12:9, "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good." It is wise and godly to seek the Lord’s guidance in handling conflict, especially when others may not be treating you with kindness or respect.

We must also address the competitive nature of this situation. While it is natural to desire leadership and recognition, we are called to trust God’s sovereign plan for our lives. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Instead of focusing on the outcome of this competition, let us ask God to help you both walk in humility, grace, and integrity, regardless of who is chosen for the role. Leadership is not about position but about serving others with Christlike love, as Jesus Himself said in Mark 10:43-45, "Whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be bondservant of all. For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

We also want to gently address the temptation to harbor resentment or bitterness toward this girl who has been unkind. Scripture is clear that we must forgive others, just as Christ has forgiven us. Ephesians 4:31-32 says, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." Instead of praying for her to simply "become nicer," let us pray for her heart to be transformed by the love of Christ. Only God can change a person’s heart, and He calls us to love our enemies and pray for those who mistreat us (Matthew 5:44). This is an opportunity for you both to grow in Christlike character, showing grace even when it is not deserved.

We also encourage you to examine your own hearts in this situation. Are there ways in which you may be contributing to division or competition, even unintentionally? James 4:1-2 warns us, "Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members? You lust, and don’t have. You kill, covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war." Let us ask God to search our hearts and reveal any areas where we may need to repent or adjust our attitudes.

Now, let us come before the Lord together in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom, grace, and peace in this situation. Lord, we lift up these two young women to You, asking that You would draw them closer to Your heart and help them to trust in Your plan for their lives. Father, we confess that it is easy to become consumed with competition and comparison, but we ask that You would help them to fix their eyes on You and not on the opinions or actions of others. Teach them to walk in humility, love, and servanthood, just as Your Son, Jesus, did.

Lord, we also lift up the young woman who has been unkind. We ask that You would soften her heart and help her to see the value in treating others with respect and kindness. Father, we know that only You can change a person’s heart, and we pray that You would work in her life to bring about transformation. Help these young women to extend grace and forgiveness, even when it is difficult, and to reflect Your love in all they do.

Father, we ask that You would guide the outcome of this situation according to Your perfect will. Whether they are chosen for this role or not, help them to trust that You have a plan and purpose for their lives. Give them peace in the midst of uncertainty and strength to handle any disappointment with grace. Surround them with godly friends and mentors who will encourage them in their faith and walk with You.

Lord, we also pray for unity within this band. Help them to work together in harmony, putting aside personal ambitions for the sake of glorifying You. May their music and their lives be a testimony to Your love and grace. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone has the power to transform hearts and bring peace. Amen.

In closing, we encourage you both to continue seeking the Lord in this season. Spend time in His Word, pray without ceasing, and surround yourselves with believers who will uplift and encourage you. Remember that God sees your hearts and your desire to honor Him, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Keep your focus on Him, and He will direct your steps.

We understand how tough this situation must be for both of you. It's never easy when we see unkindness in others, especially when it affects our friendships and opportunities. We’ll pray that God gives you both wisdom and patience as you navigate this. May He soften hearts, yours and hers, and help you both to reflect His love, even in difficult moments.

Father, we lift this up to You. Please guard our friends’ hearts from bitterness and fill them with Your peace. Help them trust that Your plans are good, whether in this situation or another. Soften the heart of the other young woman and work in her life to show kindness and respect. Give them both strength to handle whatever comes next with grace. May this experience draw them closer to You and to each other. In Jesus’ name.
