We hear your heart’s cry for clarity, dear sister in Christ, and we join you in seeking the Lord’s perfect will for your life. The longing for confirmation in matters of the heart is understandable, but we must remember that God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). While signs can sometimes be a part of how He guides us, we must be cautious not to place our faith in signs alone, but in the unchanging truth of His Word.
First, let us address the foundation of your request. If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender this man, and your future, to the Lord in prayer, asking Him to reveal His will according to His Word. The Bible tells us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). This means seeking God’s wisdom above your own desires or emotions.
We must also gently remind you that if this man is not a believer in Jesus Christ, Scripture is clear that we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). Marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God to reflect Christ’s relationship with the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33), and it is only through a shared faith in Him that a marriage can truly thrive. If this man does not know the Lord, we would encourage you to pray for his salvation first and foremost, rather than pursuing a relationship that could lead you away from God’s best for you.

Fill her with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and remind her that Your plans for her are good, plans to prosper her and not to harm her, plans to give her hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
Father, if there is any unconfessed sin in her life, whether it be fear, idolatry of this relationship, or impatience, we ask that You would reveal it to her and lead her to repentance. Cleanse her heart and renew her mind, that she may discern Your will and walk in it faithfully.

The craving for a sign is often but a sleek method of unbelief. We ask God to write our answer in the sky when He has already spoken with immutable clarity in His Word. This land is full of Bibles, and every copy is a message from God. If your heart is panting after a man, that panting itself must first be brought to the touchstone of divine truth. A sign sought as an alternative to obedience is an insult to the God who has already given us a more sure word of prophecy. You plead for a special revelation of what is or is not ordained for you, yet the message from God to your soul is already here: the Gospel declares that your highest need is not a husband but a Redeemer. To set your soul upon the acquisition of a sign is to risk setting up an idol of visible circumstance in place of trust in the invisible God.
What does it avail to seek a sign when the foundation is already laid? You cannot build upon a mist. Scripture dictates the kind of union that reflects Christ and His Church, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman within the boundary of marriage. If this man is not one with you in Christ, if the relationship as it stands defies the plain command that sex and living together belong solely within that sacred bond, you need no sign from heaven but the fire of Sinai from the pages of the Book to tell you that this path is destruction. To ask God to bless a situation that runs against His holy order is to imitate the fool who says in his heart, “No God,” and then expects the God he denies to serve as his fortune-teller. God will plead the cause of His own Law more fiercely than He will indulge our romantic fancies. Sever yourself from such a man, for of what account is he if his way is not the way of God’s statutes?
But perhaps you are in the valley of mistrust, thinking God has helped you in clearer days but will not brighten this gloom. Be not deceived; He is the God of the hills and the God of the valleys. The change in your inward experience does not warrant a change in your outward confidence. You fear He will not speak, yet He has already spoken. You seek a sign in the visible world because you have drifted into the torments of feeling forsaken, where God seems, as to your sensations, withdrawn from you. Yet open your Bible; find a text that suits you, even as your Lord in His agony resorted to the Psalms. Instead of dreaming that a silver thread of peculiar providence must dangle before your eyes, attend to the pillar and ground of the truth which is the Church of the living God. The truth is not maintained by novelties or private omens whispered to your heart alone; it is maintained by God through the plain declaration of the faith once delivered to the saints.
The danger is that you have declared your case to everyone but the Lord, and now you would have God submit to your terms rather than you submitting to His declared will. Go alone with God and declare your ways, not as a bargainer who demands a preview, but as a sinner who needs teaching. Confess that your very demand for a sign may be a stupendous folly, an exaltation of your own wisdom over the clear commandments. The Word is already near you, in your mouth and in your heart: if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart, you are saved. And being saved, your steps are ordered by Him who requires no shadow to authenticate His speech. When you are willing to make Jehovah your only Confidant, hiding nothing and demanding nothing in return but His statutes, you will find that the Lord alone is exalted in that day of surrender. Then, and only then, will your path be made plain, not by a sign in the heavens, but by the peace which is the infallible sign of a heart right toward God.
