Good Morning Family,

“So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.”- Nehemiah 4:6

The remnant that have survived the exile are in the process of rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem. They are working along side each other. Each person is doing their part. Different gifts are on display at the wall because each person is participating in repairing, rebuilding and filling in the gaps. All according to the gifts and graces that have been bestowed upon them. All are contributing because it is essential for the task to be completed. Nehemiah is displaying extraordinary leadership skills by galvanizing the people to work for a cause beyond themselves…

Nonetheless, no matter how much everyone contributes in a most perfect world there would be no opposition. This is far from the case. The workers are being challenged with adversity from Sanballat and his cohorts. Adversity is par for the course when one is trying to rebuild and repair the broken areas in their life. It will not be easy. It will cause one to be determined and persistent. One cannot give up because some adversity or adversarial force tries to prevent the rebuilding from taking place…

Nehemiah gives us some logical insights to what kind of response is necessary to counter the forces of adversity and evil. One must have a calculated plan to deal with this so that discouragement is at a minimum. Here are 3 important lessons that we can learn from the rebuilding and repairing project in Ch. 4.

1. Pray…Nehemiah continually prays to seek direction and guidance from God. It is not some ritualistic exercise that is on display. Nehemiah in his relationship with God longs to hear what God is saying about what needs to done. Furthermore, Nehemiah prays to hear and see what God is going to do…

2. Work…It is not enough just to pray. One must put some feet on their prayers. Work will be necessary to accomplish the task before us. While Nehemiah prays in the meantime the people keep working and their resolve is strengthened. The people worked with all their heart. They did not try to shortcut what was being rebuilt. They remained faithful despite the growing opposition…

3. Preparedness…Nehemiah prayed, the people worked and some strategic action was implemeted. When we pray and start working. God will give us strategies to combat any force that attempts to come against His plan. This is why each day we wake up, we must remain alert and vigilant. The day that we lower our guard will be the day that the repairs to our rebuilt lives will be broken. When we work with God and participate in His rebuilding project, God will bring others along side of us to build upon the work that has been started. Our key objective is to show up at the wall…

In all of this, we must give God the best that we’ve got. When we give God the best that we’ve got, no matter how small or large God has the capacity to do great things…

“God is able to do just what He said He would do…He’s able…!”
