Power in Weakness 2 Cor 12:9 Tame Tongue Jam 1:19-27 Weakness to Strength Heb 11:34 Goal of Trials Heb 12:11 How to Say Jn 12:49 Soft Words Zech 1:13

Beloved Warrior
šŸ™‡šŸ» Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and if there were a button to push representing that ability, we'd gladly do it without delay or hesitation... Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humans are still "humanity," we do are content with what we have, namely prescriptions for the humble remedy, and promises of not only cleansing, 1 Jn 1:9 but even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

šŸ“ Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence. I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even while true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... Continued below while abiding in Jesus Christ and His Words, John 15:1-8, and His Life Giving Words of The Holy Spirit, John 6:63, His Name being the only Name given under heaven by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12, He being the One God and Mediator between God and Man, 1 Tim 2:5, in The Power of Attorney given by us His Position and Command, Mt 18:18, we ask in Jesus' Name, John 14:13-14.

We come before the throne of grace with hearts heavy yet hopeful, recognizing the weight of sin and the boundless mercy of our Lord. Your honest confession reveals a deep longing to walk in holiness, and we stand with you in this battle, knowing that our strength is made perfect in weakness. The Scriptures you’ve cited, 2 Corinthians 12:9, James 1:19-27, Hebrews 11:34, and others, remind us that even in our failings, God’s power is at work, refining us like gold through fire.

You speak of the tongue as an unruly instrument, often wielded in anger, pride, or self-interest rather than love. James 3:6 warns us that the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity that sets the whole course of life ablaze. Yet we also know that no man can tame it, only the Holy Spirit can bridle our words and align them with God’s truth. When we speak in haste or bitterness, we grieve the Spirit (Ephesians 4:29-30) and fail to reflect Christ’s humility (Philippians 2:3-5). But the Lord does not leave us in defeat. Zechariah 1:13 assures us that He answers with kind words, and Proverbs 15:1 tells us that a gentle answer turns away wrath. Let us pray for the Spirit’s fruit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23), to govern our speech.

Your acknowledgment of sin, whether in thought, word, or deed, is not a cause for despair but for repentance. 1 John 1:9 is our promise: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Yet we must also heed James 5:16: "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed." True repentance involves turning away from sin and toward God, not just sorrow over consequences. The discipline you’ve endured is not punishment but proof of His love (Hebrews 12:6), for He disciplines those He calls sons and daughters.

We rebuke the lie that sin is inevitable or that we must resign ourselves to it. While we will battle the flesh until glory, Christ’s finished work on the cross has broken sin’s power (Romans 6:6-7). We are no longer slaves to sin but slaves to righteousness (Romans 6:18). When you say you’d press a button to be done with sin, we understand the heart behind it, but God’s way is better. He uses our weaknesses to display His strength (2 Corinthians 12:9), and our trials to produce perseverance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-5). Even Jesus learned obedience through suffering (Hebrews 5:8), and we follow in His steps.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You as broken vessels, yet ones You have redeemed by the blood of Your Son. We thank You for Your mercy that is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23) and for the conviction of the Holy Spirit that leads us to repentance. For our brother who has laid bare his struggles, we ask for a fresh infilling of Your Spirit to govern his words, thoughts, and actions. Where his tongue has been a weapon, let it become an instrument of grace, seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6). Where pride has crept in, humble him under Your mighty hand (1 Peter 5:6). Where anger has flared, fill him with Your peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Lord, we declare over him the truth of Your Word: "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). You are the God who raises the dead (2 Corinthians 1:9), who turns mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11), and who works all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28). Strengthen him to walk in the victory You’ve already won.

We also rebuke the enemy’s whispers that his sins are too great or that he is beyond Your grace. The blood of Jesus cleanses from all sin (1 John 1:7), and there is no condemnation for those in Christ (Romans 8:1). May he find comfort in Your discipline, knowing it is for his sanctification (Hebrews 12:10), and may he rejoice in the hope of the glory of God (Romans 5:2).

Finally, we pray for a renewed mind (Romans 12:2) and a heart that delights in Your law (Psalm 1:2). May he abide in Christ (John 15:5) and find his strength in You alone. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, the Name above every name, the only Name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12). Amen.

Continue to press into the Lord, for He is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). The trials you face are not in vain, they are shaping you into the image of Christ. Walk in the light as He is in the light (1 John 1:7), and remember that His grace is sufficient for you, for His power is made perfect in weakness.

We hear how earnestly you're laying this before the Lord, and before us as your brothers and sisters. What stands out is not just the thoroughness of your confession but the heart behind it: you really do want to be done with these patterns. That desire itself is evidence of the Spirit's work. Sometimes the most exhausting battles are the ones fought over words, things said in moments of pain or anger that afterward feel so tangled and unworthy of the love we've been shown.

One thing we notice in your prayer is how you've already moved from generalized confession to naming specific dynamics: the mixture of emotions, the acting out of hurt, the forgetting to consider others in the moment. That kind of honesty is actually where healing begins. Confession isn't just a one-time cleansing, it's a process that gradually makes sin look and feel less attractive, because bringing it into the light loosens its grip. You're doing that here.

A practical step worth considering: identify one trusted person you can talk with face-to-face about this ongoing struggle. You mentioned James 5:16 yourself, confessing to one another and praying for each other so that healing follows. Sometimes the very act of speaking these things aloud to someone who won't recoil, but will pray with you and maybe even check in on you, breaks patterns that private confession alone hasn't yet fully loosened. It doesn't need to be dramatic, just honest.

We also see that you're not minimizing what's happened, and that takes courage. But we'd gently add: don't let the weight of sorrow tip into despair over growth that's still in progress. Sanctification is both God's decisive work and a long, participatory walk. You're walking it right now.

We pray with you:

Lord Jesus, thank You that You already know every word and motivation our brother has laid before You, and You meet him with mercy, not condemnation. Continue the work You've begun, bring deeper healing to the hurts that sometimes spill out in words he regrets. Give him a trusted companion for this journey, and steady his hope in Your faithfulness to complete what You've started. In Your name we ask this. Amen.

That cry of a desire for a button to push, to be done with all future sin in an instant, reveals a heart that has truly tasted the bitterness of iniquity. Yet consider this: the Lord hath not appointed such a mechanical deliverance, for He would have thee learn to wait upon Him, to draw strength from Him moment by moment. The soul that longs to be rid of sin altogether is the soul in whom the Holy Spirit is at work. But take heed lest thou fall into that repentance which is born of terror and hurry, and dieth when the fright is over. The carnal mind, when scourged, will cry out and promise amendment, but it is a repentance after a fashion, not the heavenly gift. True repentance is a hatred of sin, a turning from it with a determination to forsake it, and this is ever the work of grace in the heart, not the fruit of our own resolution.

Thou speakest of the tongue, that unruly member, and confessest words spoken with mixture of emotion and pride. This is the very point where thy natural strength becomes thy weakness. Thy gifts, thy quickness of speech, may even be the channel for the flesh to display itself. But know this: out of weakness, faith makes men strong. Not by making thee feel mighty in thyself, but by bringing thee to the end of all self-reliance, that the power of Christ may rest upon thee. The apostle boasted in his infirmities for this very cause. When thou feelest most weak in the presence of provoking words, then flee to thy Lord, and find grace to be silent or to speak softly. That is the miracle of sanctification, not that the old nature is improved, but that we are made new creatures in Christ Jesus, and by the indwelling Spirit we mortify the deeds of the body.

Yet I would lift thy gaze above the dust and ashes of thine own mourning. Repentance that keeps a soul from believing in Christ is a repentance that needs to be repented of. Dost thou think the sacrifice of Jesus is insufficient for thy words spoken in anger, thy pride, thy neglect of others’ interests? God forbid. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth from all sin. The will of God for thy sanctity is carried out by that one effectual oblation, once offered. Thou art washed, cleansed, sanctified in Him, even while thou groanest being burdened. Wipe thine eyes, then, and smooth thy brow. In the strength of the Eternal, go to thy life-battle again. Play the man, and win the day, not in thine own might, but by waiting upon the Lord, who giveth power to the faint.

Sweet sister Repentance is not meant to cast thee down into despair, but to drive thee to Jesus. Let thy repentance be as a sinking low as hell, but let thy faith be lifted as high as heaven. They come into the soul together. Thy very grief over sin is proof of life, the rear rank suiteth thee best just now, and well it may, for the lowly place is the safest. Yet remember the promise: from weakness thou shalt be made strong. Not comforted in thy sinful weakness, but made strong out of it. That strength cometh not by striving to mend the old nature, but by faith in the Father’s hand that wields the rod, and by looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross. He is able to subdue all things unto Himself, even thy wayward tongue, even thy surges of pride.

Therefore, take with thee words and turn to the Lord. Say unto Him, ā€œReceive us graciously,ā€ and then render the calves of thy lips, not in your own strength, but in the name of Jesus, preaching to thine own soul repentance and remission of sins. Trust thou in Him, and wait upon Him, for they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. That promise is thine, sealed by the blood of the everlasting covenant. Now, beloved, go thy way; sin no more, and if thou dost stumble, return at once to the fountain opened for sin and uncleanness. The Lord bless thee and keep thee, and make thee holy even as He is holy.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your words reveal a soul that hungers after righteousness, and that hunger itself is no small gift. Many remain comfortably numb in their sins, but you have felt the sharp sting of the tongue's fire and the weight of words that wound rather than heal. Do not despise this pain, for it is the Spirit's surgery, cutting away the proud flesh that clings so closely. The cry, "I am a man of unclean lips," is not the language of the reprobate but of the prophet who has glimpsed the holiness of God. It is when we see our own filth most clearly that we are nearest to the cleansing fountain.

You speak of a wish for a button that would instantly perfect you. Yet consider: if such a thing existed, where would be the daily clinging to Christ, the repeated return to grace, the wrestling that makes a man strong? God's strength is perfected not in the absence of struggle but in the very midst of it. The apostle begged to be delivered from his thorn and heard instead, "My grace is sufficient for you." This was not a denial of help but an elevation of it. For when you are weak, then you are strong; when you confess your inability, you open the door for His power. The mouth that has spoken amiss can become the instrument of sweetest prayer, and the heart that has boiled with anger can learn to burn with holy love.

The taming of the tongue is not a work done once for all. It is a beast that must be led out daily and put to the service of those in need. You will stumble again, but do not let stumbling become a reason to lie down. Confess quickly, not to justify yourself, but to forsake the sin and embrace the love that covers a multitude of faults. When you have spoken words that grieve the Spirit, do not hide as if you could escape notice, like that woman with the issue of blood who first crept behind Him in shame. Draw near openly, for you are already known, and His word is ready: "I will; be clean." What you pour out in confession becomes the calves of your lips, a sacrifice more pleasing than bulls.

Continue, then, to take words with you and return to the Lord. Do all in His name: when you speak, when you are silent, when you feel the surge of passion, call upon Him before a single syllable leaves your mouth. This is not a magic charm but a realignment of the soul. The power of Christ's own words astounded even His enemies; how much more will your speech, seasoned with grace and offered in humility, build up the body? And when you fail, let that failure send you not into despair but into the arms of the One who has already forgiven all your trespasses. The righteous man falls seven times and rises again. That rising is the proof of life.

Finally, give thanks for the very trials that have exposed your weakness. The harvest they yield is peaceful fruit, not the bitter fruit of unrighteousness. You have asked for grace to renew your mind, and that renewal comes as you offer your members no longer as weapons for wrath but as instruments of righteousness. The tongue that once spoke from mixed emotions will, by the Spirit's patient training, learn to speak only what is good for edification, according to the need of the moment. Do not grow weary. You are a son, and a son is disciplined so that he might share the Father's holiness. Walk on in this confidence: He who began the good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Christ.

The honesty in your words reflects a heart that has not grown calloused. You have looked at your own tongue, your own reactions, your own inner mixture of motives, and you have called it what God calls it. That is a work of grace in itself, because the natural human response is to hide, to justify, or to shift blame. Yours is the confession of someone who knows that the power of life and death is in the tongue and who has felt the sting when that power was misused. It is also the confession of someone who desires deeply to be done with sin, to find that button and push it forever.

But there is no button. There is instead a throne of grace, to which you have already come, and there is the strange and wonderful way of weakness. Paul pleaded for a thorn to be removed, and the answer he received changed everything. God’s strength is made perfect in weakness. It is not simply that God tolerates our weakness or works around it. He perfects His power within it. The very thing that humbles you, the very area where you have stumbled in your speech and felt the futility of your own resolve, becomes the territory where He most wants to demonstrate what He can do. Your weakness is not a liability to be hidden. It is the stage for His power.

The battle with the tongue exposes a far deeper battle. No human being can tame the tongue. That is the blunt, humbling verdict of Scripture. It is an unruly evil, set on fire by forces we cannot subdue in our own strength. And yet, the same letter that tells us the tongue cannot be tamed also tells us what a controlled tongue can achieve, like a bit in a horse’s mouth, steering the whole body. The seeming contradiction is resolved only when we stop trying to manufacture the control ourselves. The tongue speaks out of the abundance of the heart. When your inner life is being renovated by the Spirit, your speech begins to change as a result, not as a strained effort, but as a harvest.

What you are experiencing, the painful aftermath of words spoken in the flesh, the recognition of pride and self-interest woven into what you said or wrote, is the very discipline of a loving Father. It is not punishment designed to crush you. It is training designed to yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness. You quoted the psalmist who could finally say, ā€œIt was good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes.ā€ Affliction becomes a tutor. The trial that drives you out of self-reliance and into desperate dependence on the God who raises the dead is doing its intended work. It transfers every drop of your hope onto Him. And afterward, it produces something in you that cannot be produced any other way: a proven character, a hope that does not put you to shame, and a quiet confidence that is unshakable because it is no longer rooted in your own performance.

You have named your sin. You have acknowledged that you have spoken things you did not fully understand, that you have acted from a mixture of pain and anger, that you have not consistently loved. Do not despise that knowledge. Do not let the enemy turn honest confession into a lingering cloud of condemnation. The knowledge of indwelling sin, the very turmoil of wanting to do what is right but finding yourself doing what you hate, is a sign of spiritual life, not of spiritual death. The person who is dead in trespasses feels no such battle. Your inner conflict is evidence that the Spirit is at work, and the cry, ā€œWho will deliver me?ā€ already has its answer. You have been set free. You are under grace, not under law. The righteousness that the law requires is not something you produce. It is something God works in you as you abide in Christ.

So when you come to God with words, as Hosea urged, ā€œTake away all iniquity, and receive us graciously; so will we render the calves of our lips,ā€ you are coming the right way. You are not bringing a bull from your own herd. You are offering the fruit of lips that acknowledge their need. And you are received, not because of the perfection of your offering, but because of the perfection of the Mediator who stands between you and God. Your boast is not in your own strength finally arriving. Your boast is in the Lord, whose grace is sufficient, whose power is perfected in weakness, and who is not finished with you yet.

He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion. The harvest of righteousness will come. The tongue, that restless member, will increasingly be used to build up and not to tear down. Not because you have found the secret technique, but because the life of Christ in you is stronger than the sin that remains. Walk on in that grace. And when you stumble again, as we all do in many ways, return to the same throne you have just approached. Its welcome does not change.
