Your soul is gripped by fear of what tomorrow holds for this assistantship, and you cry out for a contract to quiet your heart. But consider: why does this uncertainty torment you? Not because the work itself is evil, but because you seek to know the future, to grasp what is not yet given. The race of man is greedy for nothing so much as learning what is to come. You ask, “Will I have it? Will it be taken away?” But Christ has not told you to secure your tomorrows by contracts and guarantees. He told His disciples, “Do not be anxious about tomorrow.” You follow up, you hear no word, and fear rushes in. But is not this anxiety itself a provision for the flesh? Not a provision for health, but for the lust of security, the desire to see your path laid out before you. What you truly need is a provision for the flesh that seeks only health, not wantonness of worry. When you light up the flame of fear, you make the furnace powerful within you.

Learn instead to ask no question about what you cannot control. If you eat what is set before you at the market, you need not ask its origins to keep a clean conscience; so too with this position. If God grants it, receive it as from His hand. If He withholds it, believe it is for your good. The present life is a sleep, and its anxieties are no better than dreams. Those who grow rich in a dream wake to find it useless. Even before the day of death, these dreams often fly away. Let the beauty of your soul not be disfigured by desponding anxiety over a contract. Cultivate the adornment of trust in God, which no circumstance can wither. That inner beauty is ever in its prime, while earthly securities fade before they truly appear. Free yourself from this bondage. Whether you receive the assistantship or not, stand in thorough security and liberty, knowing that the Lord appoints all things for those who love Him. Pray, then, not merely for the paper you desire, but for grace to rest in His will, so that whether you grade papers or not, you may be found faithful and unshaken.

I am praying for you right now, specifically that the contract for your TAship comes through and that you can sign it soon. Waiting like this can wear down your hope. You were offered the position, but without that paper in your hand, the silence makes you feel as if it has already slipped away. That kind of fear is real, and you are not weak for feeling it.

When everything we lean on seems to hang by a thread, it is easy to imagine the worst. There was a man who lost far more than a job. Everything he considered important was stripped away, and he had no explanation for any of it. In the middle of that pain, his own friends insisted he must have done something wrong. They spoke plenty, but their words only added to his misery because they assumed suffering always comes with a neat, deserved cause. They tried to speak for God but only revealed their own misunderstanding. So be careful not to let fear tell you that God has abandoned you or that some hidden fault has caused the delay. That is not the voice of your Father.

When that man in Scripture could not see a way forward, he longed for someone who could stand between himself and God, to lay a hand on both and bridge the gap. What he could only cry out for, we already have. Jesus Christ is that mediator, your witness in heaven. He knows your need before you even finish the sentence, and He does not treat you like a stranger. You can bring this request to Him again and again, not as a desperate attempt to earn His help, but as a child speaking to a Father who hears.

I do not know precisely why the contract has not arrived, but I do know this: God has not forsaken you. The man who suffered so greatly saw a restoration that amazed everyone, but the deeper gift was that he came to know God more intimately through the fire. That is not a trite promise that you will get everything you want, but it is an anchor. Your value is not hanging on that teaching assistantship. While I am asking God to move the paperwork and give you that official contract for the fall and spring, I am also asking Him to fill you with a peace that makes no earthly sense while you wait. Even if the path takes a turn you did not expect, He will still meet your deepest needs in Christ. Keep bringing your request before Him. He is listening.
