The request for strong prayers concerning eyesight and health strikes at the very heart of our human frailty. You ask for prayers, and this is good, for our Lord Himself, in the days of His flesh, offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death. If the sinless Son of God did not hesitate to pray with such fervent intensity, how much more must we, who are dust and ashes, pour out our souls before the Physician of both body and soul?

Yet consider this carefully. When you seek healing for the body, do not neglect the far more grievous sickness of the soul. For many who enjoy perfect health of body are inwardly full of infirmity, while others who bear physical affliction possess a soul radiant with health. True poverty is not the lack of bodily strength, but the craving for what one does not have. True wealth is not the abundance of physical comforts, but the contentment that needs nothing beyond God. The one who bears his illness with thanksgiving is richer before heaven than the robust man who frets and complains.

I observe among us a certain dullness of hearing when it comes to matters of the spirit. We cry out to God when the body aches, but where are the tears and strong crying when the soul lies paralyzed by sin? You entreat the church for strong prayers, and I will not refuse you. I make mention of you continually in my prayers, as is the part of genuine love. But I must also ask you: Do you pray for your soul with the same urgency? For forty days, perhaps, you afflict yourself and seek purity, only to return to the very habits that caused the sickness of soul. What advantage is it if your eyes are opened to see the sun, but your spiritual sight remains blind to the glory of the Lord?

Let not the healthy man trust in his strength, for he who thinks he stands must take heed lest he fall. And let not the afflicted man despair, for does not Scripture say, "Shall he who falls not arise?" and "Lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees"? Our circumstances change like the shifting winds. Many who were once sick become healthy, and many who were healthy grow infirm through carelessness. Train your soul now, in this time of trial, to be disciplined for every vicissitude. Bring yourself up in the chastening and admonition of the Lord, that you may stand naked and unguarded against the storms of life, protected only by the strength that comes from above.

I will pray with all fervor for your eyesight and health, that God may grant you relief according to His will. But I pray even more earnestly that this affliction may become for you the occasion of profound spiritual healing. Do not seek merely to escape your present discomfort, but to learn obedience through the things you suffer, as our High Priest did before you. Lay hold of the true health, which is the salvation of your soul through Jesus Christ alone. For what profit is it to possess the keenest vision in a body that perishes, if the eyes of the heart remain darkened?

You have asked for strong prayers for your eyesight and health, and I want you to know that your plea has been heard. I am joining my heart with yours before the Lord, and I am also standing with others here who are lifting you up in agreement. Jesus promised that if two or three agree on earth about anything, it will be done by our Father in heaven, and so we bring your need together before His throne.

As we pray, remember that prayer is not about informing God of something He does not already know. Your Father knows what you need before you ask. But prayer opens the door for Him to act freely without violating the will He has given us. When we come to Him, we are not trying to wear Him down or change His mind; we are bringing our hearts into harmony with His desires. He longs to be to you whatever your need demands. For healing, He reveals Himself as the Lord who heals, the One who restored sight to the blind and made the lame walk. Approach Him with that confidence.

Think of King Hezekiah. When he was sick to the point of death, he turned his face to the wall and wept, crying out to God. He did not offer a long, eloquent prayer, he poured out his heart with tears, and God said, “I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears.” The same God sees your desperation and hears every whisper of your heart. Do not hold back. Let your prayer rise from that place of simple, fervent need. It is the effectual, fervent prayer that avails much, not the length of the words or the posture of the body. A quick, silent cry from the depths is just as precious to Him.

Continue in prayer, and do not give up. Persistence is not about convincing a reluctant judge; it keeps you rooted in dependence and expectant faith. Sometimes God uses medicine or the wisdom of physicians to bring restoration, Hezekiah himself received a lump of figs applied to his boil, and there is no shame in that. At other times He heals with a word. And sometimes, like the apostle Paul with his thorn, the answer is a deeper grace: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” I do not know which path the Lord will take in your specific case, but I do know that when you pray, you can trust that His will is perfect and filled with love. The wisest prayer any of us can offer is, “Lord, have Your way in my life and do what You know is best.”

Make certain that you are coming to Him as a child to a Father. If you have never opened your heart to Jesus and asked for His mercy, that is the only prayer He waits to hear: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” Once that relationship is established, you can call Him “Father,” and all the promises of prayer become yours. Rest in that love as you ask, and let your soul prosper in fellowship with Him, for there is a beautiful connection between the health of the spirit and the well-being of the body.

I am continuing to hold you up before the Lord. May the Holy Spirit minister comfort and assurance to your heart right now, and may you see the answer unfold in a way that brings glory to God and fullness of joy to you.
