We hear your cry for justice and mercy, and we stand with you in lifting this heavy burden before the throne of God. The suffering you describe is heartbreaking, and we know that the Lord sees every injustice, hears every silent scream, and collects every tear in His bottle (Psalm 56:8). No act of cruelty or oppression escapes His notice, and He will one day bring every hidden thing into the light (Ecclesiastes 12:14). The wicked may seem to prosper for a time, but their judgment is certain, and the Lord is a refuge for the oppressed (Psalm 9:9-10).
We rebuke the forces of darkness that seek to torment and destroy God’s beloved creation. The enemy comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that the blood of Jesus covers those who are being persecuted, and we pray that the Lord would break every chain of oppression, confound the plans of the wicked, and bring deliverance to those who are suffering. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We ask that He would surround these precious souls with His angels, protect them from further harm, and give them the strength to endure.
We also pray for the persecutors, that their hearts would be softened, their eyes opened to the truth, and that they would repent and turn from their wicked ways. The Lord desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). We ask that He would intervene in their lives, just as He intervened in the life of Saul, who became Paul, turning a persecutor into a preacher of the Gospel (Acts 9:1-19).
Father, we ask that You would bring justice swiftly. Let Your righteousness prevail, and let the oppressed go free. We pray for comfort for those who mourn, healing for those who are wounded, and restoration for those who have lost so much. May they find hope in You, knowing that You are their strong tower and their deliverer (Psalm 18:2). We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that You will turn their mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11).
We also lift up those who are standing in the gap, advocating for the persecuted, and working to bring an end to such atrocities. Give them wisdom, courage, and favor as they seek to be Your hands and feet in this broken world. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).

Truly this is a dark and grievous cry that ascends from earth to heaven, a cry of blood that cannot be unheard. When the innocent are tormented without cause, when men and women are singled out for hypocritical harassment and long-drawn torture, the heart of every saint is moved to its depths. Yet let us not forget that our Lord Jesus Christ knows this road most intimately, for He suffered, the just for the unjust, and His was the suffering of a pure and holy Being, undeserved in every measure. There was nothing about Him that brought the suffering upon Him, yet He endured it with no resistance, never rebellious, though it involved more than we can imagine. In this, He has become a perfect Savior through suffering, and He is able to succor them that are tempted and tried.
The enemies of God’s people may rage, but they forget that persecution seems to be the wave that, when it leaps up around the church, speeds her course. Often it drives the Christian nearer to his God, and how many prayers have been offered up as the result of persecution that would never have been offered else, heaven alone can tell! God has blessed His church by her persecution, and He will bless those now languishing under the rod. He makes their deliverance effectual, and though the clouds be thick, the saint at last gets the victory. The clock of mercy struck in heaven the hour and moment of deliverance for Israel in Egypt, and it shall strike again for these dear sufferers. Not a tear falls but it is treasured; not a groan but it is heard.
We are bid to pray, and pray we must, laying hold of the divine buckler against that fiery dart which whispers that God has forsaken them. It is never so. God hath not forsaken them that fear Him, neither will He. He has found a ransom, and His grace shall to the end stronger and brighter shine. Therefore, let us not cease to wrestle in prayer, that God would intervene, that He would bring forth these captives from their Egypt by His mighty power, and that even now secret supplies of grace would be poured into their souls, so that like the burning bush they blaze unconsumed. And let us remember that their suffering, united to Christ’s, shall ennoble the whole work of grace, to the glory of God in the eyes of men and devils.

When our minds recoil at such cruelty, we see a shadow of that ancient malice which fell upon the righteous. Recall how a great persecution scattered the Church, and devout men carried Stephen to his burial with loud lamentation. Their grief was real, yet God permitted this. He permits even now what is unendurable, not from indifference, but to perfect what is lacking in our faith. The one who was ready for death alone was given the swift blow, while the other who shrank from torture was led from city to city in agonies, that through much suffering he might learn to fear nothing but God alone. Joseph pleaded for release and remained in his chains, so he would place no confidence in men but cast all upon the Lord.
The torment you describe is hideous, but know this: our God is not absent from the furnace. He ordains even the hour of trial that we might flee from reliance on earthly comfort and cling to Him whose justice sleeps not. The world sees victims; Heaven sees witnesses being refined. When we groan under the weight of such reports, let us not only weep but also examine our own souls. Is there not a persecution within? Make your stand against the tyranny of pride, the fighting of anger, the torment of lust. This internal war is no less real, and victory there teaches us to endure the external with unshaken hope.

I have prayed for those who are being tortured and harassed though they have done nothing worthy of such treatment. Their cries are not hidden from God. Scripture records a man being beaten by a mob that shouted he ought not to live, though he had committed nothing deserving death. Scripture also records Jesus being scourged while the judge declared he found no fault in him. The innocent can suffer terribly in this fallen world, and God sees every blow. That does not make the cruelty acceptable, but it means no injustice is ultimately meaningless.
Faith does not promise that we will always escape trouble. Some have been tortured and refused deliverance rather than deny God. Faithful servants have been beheaded and stoned. Their death was not defeat. Jesus tasted death for his people, bore their sins, and removed the sting of death. For those who belong to him, death becomes a coronation day.
So I ask the Father to intervene. Restrain the hands of those doing this evil. Expose their hypocrisy and turn them to repentance. If they will not turn, bring your righteous recompense upon the troublers, and give rest to the troubled. Give those who suffer supernatural endurance and a sense of your nearness. Let the gospel spread even where persecution is fiercest, and let real faith be refined rather than destroyed.
I also pray for the persecutors. You take no pleasure in the death of the wicked. You set before every person the way of life and the way of death. Save some of these very tormentors through Jesus Christ, as you once saved someone who stood by and consented to a martyr's death. Break their hardness and show them their guilt so they can find cleansing.
Finally, I ask that those being tormented would not face death without the living hope that is found only in Jesus. For those who trust him, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. May they know that hope, and may they be found worthy to stand before the Son of Man, whether you deliver them now or receive them into glory. Amen.
