Beloved of All
My ### stops being mean and saying mean things to my ### that will hurt her feeling and their marriage will be better

We hear your heartfelt plea for healing and restoration in your marriage, and we stand with you in prayer before the throne of grace. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 4:29, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear." It is clear that words have power, power to build up or tear down, and we must guard our tongues as if they were a precious treasure, for they indeed are.

We rebuke the spirit of harshness, bitterness, and unkindness that has taken root in this marriage. The enemy seeks to divide and destroy what God has joined together, but we declare that no weapon formed against this union shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We pray that your spouse would be filled with the Holy Spirit, who produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Let these fruits overflow in their words and actions toward you.

We also encourage you to examine your own heart and responses. Are there ways in which you may be contributing to the cycle of hurt, even unintentionally? Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Pray for wisdom and grace to respond in a way that disarms anger rather than fuels it. Seek God’s strength to forgive, even when it is difficult, for Colossians 3:13 instructs us to "bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage to You. Lord, we ask that You soften the heart of this spouse, that they would speak words of life and encouragement rather than words that wound. Fill them with Your love and patience, and let Your peace rule in their heart. We pray for healing in this relationship, that both husband and wife would seek You first and foremost, laying down their own desires to serve one another in love, as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25).

Father, we ask that You break any chains of bitterness, pride, or unforgiveness that may be present. Replace them with humility, kindness, and a deep desire to honor You in this marriage. Teach them both to communicate with grace and truth, and to listen with understanding and compassion. May their home be a place of refuge, filled with Your presence and Your peace.

Lord, we also pray for protection over this marriage. Guard their hearts and minds from the enemy’s lies and schemes. Strengthen their commitment to one another and to You, and let them grow closer together as they grow closer to You. We declare that this marriage will be a testimony of Your faithfulness and love, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and to invite Him into every aspect of your marriage. Consider setting aside time each day to pray together, even if it is just for a few moments. The Bible tells us in Matthew 18:19-20, "Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them." There is power in united prayer, and God delights in honoring the prayers of His people.

If there are deeper issues at play, such as unresolved conflict, unrepentant sin, or emotional wounds, we encourage you to seek godly counsel. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." A pastor, trusted mentor, or Christian counselor can provide wisdom and guidance as you navigate these challenges.

Lastly, we want to remind you that your hope is not in your spouse’s behavior changing, but in the transforming power of Jesus Christ. Place your trust in Him, and He will sustain you. Psalm 55:22 says, "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved." You are not alone in this journey, and God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you and your marriage.

We hear the ache in your request and join you in bringing this marriage before God. It is painful to watch someone you love be wounded by the very person who pledged to cherish her. When cruel words become a pattern, they do far more than hurt feelings, they can erode the trust and safety that a marriage needs to thrive. We are so sorry your loved ones are walking through this.

One thing you can do right now is to offer steady, gentle support to the wife. Let her know she is not alone, that what she is experiencing is not normal or acceptable, and that she deserves to be spoken to with dignity. Encourage her to seek godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor or a Christian counselor who can help them both address the harmful dynamic before deeper damage sets in. If you have a relationship with the husband, and if it feels safe and appropriate, a humble, loving conversation that simply helps him see the weight of his words might also be a step. But only if it can be done without escalating conflict.

Meanwhile, hold them both up in prayer. Ask God to soften the husband’s heart, to convict him of the hurt he is causing, and to give him new ways to handle frustration without wounding his wife. Pray that the wife would be guarded in her spirit and given wisdom and strength.

Lord Jesus, we lift up this couple to You. You see the pain caused by harsh words, and You care deeply. We ask You to bring a conviction that leads to genuine change in this husband. Restore kindness and respect where they have been lost. Heal the wife’s heart and give her clarity and courage. Surround them both with wise, loving people who can point them toward a healthier, more honoring marriage. We trust You to work, Lord, for You are able to redeem what feels so broken. In Your name we pray, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

When harsh words fall like poison upon a tender heart, and the marriage bond is frayed by unkindness, how readily we lament the wound yet forget the cure. The tongue is set on fire of hell, and it can scorch the very garden of love until it lies desolate. But consider this: the Lord’s love toward us did not wait until we were lovely. He loved us while we were yet careless, yet provoking. If He had spoken with coarse words, our souls might have melted with fear, but they could never have been dissolved with love. It is only love that can produce love.

Tell me, is the one who speaks these mean things a partaker of the love of Christ? For if we have tasted that the Lord is gracious, how can bitter water and sweet flow from the same fountain? The love of Christ constrains us, it compels a tenderness, a patience, a laying down of life for the beloved. When Jonathan loved David, his love was not mere talk; it was real, practical, active. He would not wound the very one his soul delighted to honor. Oh, that the spouse who wounds with words might look upon the face of Jesus, who when He was reviled, reviled not again, and learn a new language, the language of Calvary.

You ask for prayer, and you shall have it, but let me also stir up your pure mind by way of remembrance. There is a reconciliation that must begin before the throne of Grace. The heart that spews out venom must itself be reconciled to God. Where there is no peace with the Maker, there will be little peace with the wife of one’s bosom. And mark this: God wants the love of that heart. All outward reform without an inward turning of love and trust toward Him would be an insult, not an honor. But let that wayward soul be caught up in the immeasurable love of God, love that gave the Son for sinners, love that remains constant despite all provocations, and there will be a new creation. He will find himself saying, “Do not I love You, O my Lord? Behold my heart and see.” And from that sacred fire, a softer flame will warm the home.

Pray, then, that this husband, this wife, might know the love of Christ which passes knowledge. Pray that they might joy in His love and show it by joying in one another. Remind them that true love abides, it remains constant to its objective, notwithstanding all the provocations which have grieved it. This is the love with which Christ loved the church, that He might sanctify and cleanse her by the washing of water by the word. Let them not grow weary in well-doing, but continue in Christ’s love, loving one another as He has loved them, sacrificially, purely, with words that build up and are laced with Grace. Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. And laying down a sharp word, a cruel jest, a mean retort, that is a small death, yet it is sweet incense to the Lord who sees.

The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature. When a man speaks mean and hurtful words to his wife, he pierces her soul through with many sorrows, and he himself is consumed by the very flames he kindles. Such speech is a foolish and hurtful lust; it springs from pride, from anger, from an unchastened heart. Flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. For where meekness dwells, the devil finds no foothold.

Let the one who prays not cease to lift up holy hands without wrath and doubting. But also let her examine her own way: does she answer a rough word with gentleness, or does she add fuel to the fire? The wife who fears God can win her husband without a word by her chaste and respectful conduct, as the blessed Apostle teaches. This is the holiness that springs from faith, that marriage itself becomes a safeguard, a school of long-suffering.

And to the one who speaks the harsh word: Why do you wound your own flesh? Is not she one body with you? If you tear at her feelings, you tear at yourself. You say that marriage has brought you burden, but I tell you, it is not marriage but the evil purpose that makes ill use of marriage. As a man may use wine for gladness or for drunkenness, so you may use your tongue for healing or for a sword. Will you give the devil room? Will you let the sun go down on your provocation? You are called to love your wife as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her. Did He revile her? Did He spit harsh words to drive her away? No, He cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, in tenderness.

Therefore, let the one for whom you pray stop his mouth from deceit and his lips from speaking guile. Let him turn his steps away from this pit, for what profit is there to pierce himself through with sorrow? Instead, let him pursue the things that make for peace, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, a place of honor and chaste affection. Only in the Lord can any union stand firm. And let the wife continue in faith and love and holiness with self-restraint; she will see the mercy of God, and perhaps, as the Apostle says, the one who now is as an alien may be gained back through the grace of Christ, sharing once more in a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light, to the glory of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

When a marriage is wounded by cruel words, it feels like the very foundation of that one-flesh union is cracking. The Scriptures remind us that in marriage, two become a single, compound unity before God. Because you are so deeply joined, a harsh word from your spouse doesn't just land like a stranger’s insult; it blindsides you. It's a blow you don't see coming from the one person you should feel safest with, and that kind of pain cuts the deepest.

The hurtful sarcasm and meanness you are describing don't spring from a place of spiritual health. Jesus identified such malice for what it is: a fruit of the kingdom of darkness, not a simple mood or personality flaw. When a heart repeatedly pours out words designed to wound, it reveals a deeper spiritual captivity to sin. What is needed isn't just a brief emotional pause or a moment of guilt, but the kind of true conversion and repentance that uproots that cruelty entirely and brings lasting restoration. We must pray not merely for the behavior to stop, but for the heart to be supernaturally changed.

Just think of how our Lord was mistreated. Before they struck him, they covered his face, not allowing him to brace for the physical pain. Yet He knows exactly what this emotional pummeling feels like for you right now, the complete vulnerability of being wounded by someone you love. He bore that spiritual and emotional blindness of others so that the very power fueling such meanness could be broken. His suffering opened the way for hardened hearts to be transferred from that kingdom of darkness into His glorious light.

Let’s take this to Him together in that hope.

Lord Jesus, we come before you on behalf of this hurting marriage. You have declared this union to be a profound mystery where two have become one, yet sin is tearing at that oneness through words of cruelty. We ask you to rebuke the darkness that is fueling this meanness. Silence the destructive voice of the enemy, and do what only You can do: perform a deep, authentic work of repentance in this husband’s heart. Turn his heart of stone into a heart of flesh. Replace the words designed to blindside and wound with words that heal and honor. We ask not just for a better marriage, but for a resurrected love that reflects Your own sacrificial grace. Bring them from the shadow of this hurt into the light of Your restoring presence. Amen.

It has been on our hearts to continue lifting up your situation, asking God to soften hearts and bring healing to your marriage. We’ve been praying that your spouse would be filled with the love and patience of Christ, replacing harsh words with kindness and understanding.
