We hear your heart in this request and we do not judge you, we come alongside you to seek God's will together in Jesus' name. We understand how heavy regret and anxiety can feel, especially when you care deeply for someone and fear you have pushed him away. We want to lift you up in prayer while also sharing truth from scripture to help bring peace and wisdom to this situation.
First we want to gently address something we noticed, you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. As it is written, Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is through His name we pray and find true peace, even in anxious moments.
We also want to speak to the anxiety and insecurity you described. It is understandable to feel insecure when communication feels uncertain, but scripture calls us to bring those anxious thoughts to God rather than acting hastily on them. Don't be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 and casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. Deleting messages, assuming the worst, and sending many follow up texts out of fear can often make a misunderstanding larger. Love is patient and is kind, love doesn't envy, love doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil, doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Part of patient love is giving space and trusting the other person's character, and being quick to listen and slow to speak. Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. James 1:19. We encourage you to let your apology stand without repeatedly deleting and resending, and to give him time to process while you rest in God's peace.
We also want to speak biblically about the relationship itself. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and we view dating or being a boyfriend and girlfriend as courtship with the goal being marriage to another Christian believer. We pray for godly marriages that honor God, and we encourage individuals to pursue relationships that align with biblical principles. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity. 2 Corinthians 6:14. We do not know if this man shares your faith in Christ, but we encourage you to seek that first above all, that any courtship be between two believers who are pursuing marriage for the glory of God. If you do spend time together in person, we encourage you to do so with clear boundaries that honor God, fleeing from fornication which is sex before or outside of marriage, for God calls us to purity. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.
We know you feel you were wrong to delete the affectionate text and to accuse him of disrespect, and it is good that you have humbly acknowledged that. A sincere apology that takes responsibility without demanding an immediate response shows maturity and respect. We will pray that God softens both of your hearts, brings forgiveness and clear communication, and that if it is His will, He would open the door for contact and for you to see each other as planned in a way that honors Him. Yet we also pray that you would find peace even if his response is not immediate or not as you hope, trusting that God works all things together for good for those who love Him. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.
We pray together now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for our sister. We thank You that You see her heart, her regret, her anxiety, and her desire to make things right. Lord, we ask for Your forgiveness where she has acted in haste and insecurity, and we ask that You would forgive us all through the blood of Jesus. Grant her Your peace that surpasses understanding to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help her to cast all her cares on You because You care for her. Give her wisdom to be patient, to speak with grace, and to trust rather than assume the worst. Father, we lift up this man to You as well. Soften his heart where there is disappointment, help him to extend grace and forgiveness as You have forgiven us. If it is Your will, we ask that You would prompt him to contact her and that You would allow them to communicate clearly and spend time together in a godly and pure way that honors You. If this courtship is to continue, we pray that it would be centered on You, that both would be believers seeking marriage for Your glory, and that You would guide their steps. Above all, let Your will be done, not ours. Help our sister to find her identity and worth in You, knowing she is fearfully and wonderfully made, and that You love her deeply. Draw her closer to Jesus and let her know the hope of salvation through His name. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to rest in the Lord today, to pray and then to give him space without further deleted or repeated messages, letting your last sincere apology stand. Spend time in prayer and in the Word, and if possible seek wise counsel from a mature Christian woman or pastor who knows you. God is gracious and He can redeem even our mistakes when we humbly turn to Him.
