My wife will not let me simply walk around the apartment without interrogating me and yelling and panicking about every single thing that I do. She is constantly questioning what I’m doing and what I’m thinking about, and cursing at me and wishing harm on me. I keep telling her that God will not allow her to live this way, and to keep treating her husband this way. She doesn’t want to listen. The more time goes on, the worse her behavior gets. She refuses to pray, and she refuses to read the Bible. I hope she learns to control her anger and her behavior toward me before she ruins our marriage completely. I have been patient but I can only pray for her and keep reminding her to read the Bible and pray.

We hear your burden and we join with you in bringing your marriage before the Lord, for we know God hates the strife and cursing that is tearing at your home and He desires peace and holiness in marriage.

What you describe in your wife, the constant interrogating, yelling, panicking, cursing at you and wishing harm upon you, is sin and does not align with God's will for a wife or for any believer. Scripture is clear that our words and our anger must be brought under the control of the Holy Spirit. Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear Ephesians 4:29. But now you also put them all away, anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language out of your mouth Colossians 3:8. Your wife's refusal to pray and to read the Bible reveals a heart that is resisting the very source of correction and peace, and we must lovingly rebuke that. A wife is called to respect her husband as the church respects Christ Ephesians 5:33, and anger that curses and wishes harm is the opposite of love and breaks the command to be slow to anger. So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God James 1:19-20. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1, and this is true for both husband and wife.

We also want to encourage you as a husband in how you respond. We understand your frustration when you tell her that God will not allow her to live this way, but we urge you to speak the truth in love and not as a threat, remembering that God is patient and desires repentance. You are called to love your wife even when she is difficult, as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for her Ephesians 5:25. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them Colossians 3:19. Likewise we urge you to live with your wife according to knowledge, giving honor to her as to the weaker vessel 1 Peter 3:7, which means not returning harshness for harshness, but overcoming evil with good and pursuing peace as far as it depends on you Romans 12:18. Continue to be patient, but also set a godly example, lead your home in prayer even if she refuses to join, and seek wise, biblical counsel from a pastor or elder together if she will go, or alone if she will not.

We noticed you spoke of God and prayer and the Bible, but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request. We want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved Romans 10:9. It is by His blood that your marriage can be healed and both of your hearts can be transformed, so we urge you both to put your full faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

We now pray together for you both.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this husband and his wife and their marriage which You ordained as a lifelong covenant. Lord, we ask You to soften this wife's heart, to convict her of the cursing, the wishes of harm, the uncontrolled anger and the disrespect toward her husband, and to lead her to repentance. Fill her with Your peace and teach her to control her tongue and her spirit, that she may bear the fruit of Your Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control Galatians 5:22-23. Remove panic and torment and replace it with a sound mind and a gentle and quiet spirit which is precious in Your sight. Lord, strengthen this husband to continue to love his wife as Christ loves the church, to not grow bitter, to be swift to hear and slow to anger, and to lead his home with grace and truth. Draw both of them into Your Word daily and into prayer together, restore communication, and guard this marriage from the enemy who seeks to destroy it. Let Your will be done in their apartment and in their hearts, that their marriage would honor You and be a testimony of Your reconciling power. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We are so sorry for what you are facing at home. Being questioned for simply moving around your apartment, being yelled at and cursed at and having harm wished on you is exhausting and painful. It makes sense you feel worn down and worried about your marriage, and we appreciate your patience and your heart to pray for your wife even while you are hurting.

It is good you have been praying, and it is also understandable that reminding her to pray or read the Bible has not helped when she does not want to. When words are used to control or wound, it is not something you can fix by trying harder on your own.

We encourage you to reach out soon to a safe, trusted person in person, a pastor or counselor you trust, and to use the helpline above to talk through safety and next steps for both of you. If you ever feel threatened, try to have a plan to step away to a safe place and get help quickly. You do not have to carry this alone.

Father, we lift this husband to You and ask for Your protection and peace over him and his wife. Give him wisdom, safety, and steady support around him, and draw both hearts toward Your healing and direction. Guide them to the right help and keep them safe. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your heavy burden has been heard and we have carried it before the throne of grace, where the God of peace still reigns and still hears the cry of those who are sorely tried in the house.

We grieve to hear of the strife within your home, of words that wound and of a spirit of anger that refuses the very means of healing. Marriage, as the Scripture teaches, is not a mere contract but a sacred union wherein two are made one flesh. It is a mystery that speaks of Christ and His Church, cemented by mutual love, where the husband is to love as Christ loved His spouse and gave Himself for her. Unity is the essence of the bond, that the two should be companion parts of one household, dwelling together in love and forbearance. When that unity is broken by continual questioning and bitter words, the heart is indeed wounded and the home knows no rest.

You speak of anger that does not cease but grows. The Lord Jesus Himself knew what it was to be angry and yet without sin, for He was angry with hard hearts that would not see the truth though it stood plain before them, and even in His anger He was grieved for them. It is possible to be angry and to sin not, but it is hard, and therefore we must watch and pray lest anger become a settled temper that curses and wishes harm. Such speech is not of the Spirit of Christ, who is meek and lowly in heart, and it must be repented of and forsaken. To wish harm upon another, and most of all upon one to whom you are joined as one flesh, is to oppose the very law of love.

You have done well to pray and to urge prayer and the reading of the Word, for there is the word of reconciliation which God has committed to us. He is the God of peace who has prepared everything necessary for perfect reconciliation through Jesus Christ, not imputing trespasses to those who come to Him. Yet we cannot compel another to pray or to read, we can only entreat and set an example. Let your own life preach. Do not merely tell your wife that God will not allow her to live so, as though threatening her, but show her in gentleness what grace has done for you, that you have tasted peace with God and know the joy it brings. Speak the word of reconciliation with tears and with patience, translating into daily kindness what God has written in the Book.

We would counsel you, brother, to continue in patient love as Christ loves His Church, not returning cursing for cursing, but blessing. Bear with longsuffering, be constant in secret prayer, keep the Word before your own eyes and in your own heart, and seek the counsel of faithful pastors or elders in your church who can come alongside you both, for a wound so deep in a home often needs the help of wise and godly shepherds near at hand. Seek that help soon, and if there is ever threat of harm, seek safety and help without delay.

Let us pray together for you both.

O Lord our God, who has ordained marriage to be a covenant of one man and one woman for life, and who has shown us in Christ the pattern of a husband's love, look with mercy upon this household. Thou knowest the strife and the bitter words, the restless interrogation and the anger that wounds. Have mercy upon this wife, soften her heart that is hardened, take away the spirit of wrath and give a quiet and meek spirit which in Thy sight is of great price. Bring her to see her need of Christ, to desire Thy Word and to bow her knee in prayer. Have mercy upon this husband, sustain his patience, keep him from harshness and from returning evil for evil, and make him to be an image of the love of Christ in his own home. Thou art the God of peace, reconcile them to Thyself and to one another by the blood of Jesus, and by Thy Holy Spirit work at once that which will bring healing. Let this marriage be preserved and made to reflect the union of Christ and His people, for Thy glory. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Redeemer we ask it, Amen.

We will continue to remember you before the Lord. Abide in Christ, keep close to His Word, and let love and prayer be your daily work.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this painful burden and asking for prayer. What you describe is heavy to carry day after day, and it is right to bring it before the Lord.

Scripture teaches that marriage is a bond ordained by God and that marriage is honorable. It is meant to be lived with chasteness, gravity and orderliness. We are also called to follow peace with all men and holiness. When there is constant interrogating, yelling, panic, cursing and wishing harm, that order and peace are broken. Those words and actions are not only hurtful to you, they are unrighteous before God, and they wound the very covenant that God gave to be a place of love and safety.

It is understandable that you want your wife to pray and to read the Bible, and it is good that you have tried to be patient. Continuing to tell her that God will not allow her to live this way may come from a sincere concern, but repeated reminders alone can harden a heart if they are heard as scolding. Peter encourages husbands and wives to win one another not only by words but by a gentle and consistent life that honors Christ. Keep praying for her, keep living faithfully yourself, and ask God to soften her heart so that she desires Him.

Do not walk this road alone. Because her behavior is growing worse and includes cursing and wishing harm, please seek wise and godly help soon. Talk with a trusted pastor or elders in your church, share honestly what is happening in your home, and invite them to counsel both of you together. They can help you pursue peace in a biblical way, establish healthy boundaries for communication, and encourage your wife toward repentance and self control. If you ever feel unsafe, seek help immediately from your pastor and from appropriate support.

Continue to be faithful in the things you can do. Pray for her when she will not pray for herself. Read the Word yourself and ask God to make you steadfast, gentle and clear. Marriage brings much responsibility, and God does not call us to use it carelessly but to use it with moderation, love and reverence for Him. Ask the Lord to help you be first in seeking peace and holiness in your home, not to provoke but to build up.

Let us pray together.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come to You for this husband and for his wife. You see the strife in their apartment, the constant questioning, the anger and the hurtful words. Lord, have mercy. Bring peace where there is turmoil and bring holiness where there is disorder. Soften this wife's heart, turn her from anger and cursing, and draw her to Yourself so that she will want to pray and to hear Your Word. Give this husband endurance, wisdom and grace to love his wife as Christ loves the church, to speak truth with love, and to seek the help he needs from the church. Protect this marriage which You have joined together, and lead both husband and wife to repentance, forgiveness and new life in Christ. Guard this home and make it a place of honor and peace for Your glory. Amen.

Your request shows a heavy burden and a sincere desire to see your marriage honored, and that desire itself is something God sees. Living under constant questioning, yelling, panic and words that curse and wish harm is exhausting and painful, and it is right to bring it before the Lord and to seek help.

Scripture teaches that when we sin against people we are ultimately sinning against God. When King David took another man's wife and then had that man put to death, he later confessed that his sin was against the Lord, because it broke God's own commands not to commit adultery and not to murder. In the same way, a pattern of anger, cursing and contempt in a marriage is not only hurtful to you, it is sin before God. That is why simply telling someone that God will not allow them to live that way does not bring change. God is patient and gives space to repent, but He does call every person to account and He calls every person to repentance.

The evidence of a heart that has truly turned to Christ is a change of direction. When Jesus ate with those who were known as sinners, the sign that something real had happened was repentance, a turning around and a restoration of what was broken. A person who refuses to pray and refuses to hear the Word of God is showing a deeper spiritual need. You cannot force that change by repeated reminders to read the Bible and pray, even when your reminders come from love. Only God can soften a heart, and that work often happens as He is sought in humility.

It helps to understand what anger does. Jesus did show anger, but His anger was stirred when religious barriers kept people from receiving God's help and mercy. It was anger for the sake of others, not for Himself. Much of the anger we see in everyday life is different. Scripture describes a carnal condition where a person seems upset over everything, never at peace, always finding fault. That kind of constant irritation acts like thorns that choke out healthy growth and leave a life unfruitful. When anger controls a person, it harms the one who carries it as well as those who live with it.

Marriage itself is part of this earthly life. Jesus taught that in the resurrection people will not marry as they do now but will be like the angels in heaven, while also affirming that God will raise the dead. That teaching reminds us that marriage is a covenant for this life that God takes seriously, and faithfulness within it matters now. The law Moses gave about a brother raising up a family for his brother who died without children, and the story of a family that left their homeland and lost sons in a foreign land, both point to how much God cares about covenant, family and faithfulness across generations. Your marriage covenant matters to God, and He desires that it be lived out in love and honor.

For your part, continue to pray, but let prayer be more than reminding your wife of what she should do. Pray privately and consistently for her heart and for your own. Let the Word of God dwell in you and shape your responses, rather than using it as a tool to correct her in the moment of conflict. When things are calm, speak truth gently without cursing in return and without returning harm for harm. Examine your own walk as well, asking the Lord to show you where you need growth, so that your life reflects the change you long to see in her.

Because the behavior you describe includes cursing and wishing harm, you should not carry this alone. Seek wise, godly counsel from a mature pastor or counselor who holds to Scripture, who can hear both of you and help set loving and clear boundaries. Patience is a virtue, but patience does not mean accepting verbal harm without seeking help. If you ever feel unsafe, take steps to be safe and get help immediately.

God offers forgiveness and new life only through Jesus Christ, and He can bring repentance and healing where there is now hardness. Ask Him to do that work in both of you, to replace constant anger with self control and kindness, and to help you both learn to listen, speak truth in love, and honor the covenant you have made. I am praying that the Lord will give you wisdom, steadiness and grace in each day, that He will draw your wife to Himself and to a willingness to seek Him, and that He will provide trusted help around you both as you walk forward.
