Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask for your cup to run over with money, but consider: the rich man in the parable was not punished for his wealth but because he showed no pity. His eyes were fixed on Lazarus alone, that he might learn his punishment was just. True riches are not in having much but in needing nothing. The one who despises the world’s wealth and casts out the desire for it becomes straightway rich. If you seek overflowing finances, you set your love upon more things and multiply your cares. Instead, give thanks for whatever God provides, and use it aright. The one who brought two talents was honored equally with the one who brought five, because he accomplished all that was entrusted to him. God does not demand abundance from you but faithfulness with little.

You pray for fortitude, wisdom, patience, perseverance. These are good. But know that such gifts are forged in hardship, not in ease. Two things disquiet a teacher: heretics and men’s inability to endure suffering. Afflictions come in every age, and they are the whetstone of virtue. Do not ask only for the gifts; ask for the grace to bear what God permits, for in bearing poverty or uncertainty with thanksgiving, you are made rich indeed. Contentment with godliness is great gain.

You ask angels to protect your home and family. God’s providence needs no such proxies commanded by us. He sets His watch over His own. Pray rather that your brother and parents walk in obedience and faith, for no guard is surer than a life hid in Christ.

Examine yourself. Do you assign forty days for the health of your soul and then return to former things? Is your prayer for a job and housing merely for comfort, or that you may live for the common advantage? The talents are each person’s ability, whether in protection, money, or teaching. Spend what you are given for your neighbor’s good, and do not judge your success by appearance. That man seemed a whole man healed on the Sabbath, yet the crowd judged wrongly. Do not measure God’s favor by your circumstances. Seek first His kingdom, and all else is rightly ordered.

The weight you are carrying right now comes through clearly, concern for your own well-being, your job, your housing, your finances, and the safety of your family. It is not wrong to bring all of this before God. In fact, the cries of a person who honestly lays out their needs are exactly what we see reflected in the life of a man long ago who lost nearly everything. He too cried out for answers when his world crumbled. He did not understand his circumstances, and his questions were many. Yet, even in his misery, he refused to curse God or charge him foolishly. That is a remarkable thing. He simply admitted he could not make sense of what was happening.

Sometimes the hardest part of suffering is the silence that meets our questions. We want to know why. We want to see a clear path forward. But often, the comfort does not come from having every answer handed to us. It comes from knowing that, even when it appears God has forsaken us, he is still working. There was a controversy in the heavenly places over that man, a man God himself called upright. The trouble was not a punishment for secret sin, though well-meaning voices tried to convince him it was. They insisted he just needed to get right, to plead his cause before God, and everything would be fixed. But they were miserable comforters. They mistook his grief and his confusion for hypocrisy, and they misapplied their own tidy rules about suffering. Their counsel did not help; it only brought greater turmoil. The true story was far larger than any of them knew.

I do not know the hidden details of your life, but I know this: your needs are real, and God sees them. The desire for fortitude, wisdom, foresight, discernment, patience, and perseverance, those are good and godly gifts to ask for. The Scriptures encourage us to seek wisdom from above, and to trust that God gives generously to all without finding fault. Yet, as you wait for those things and for your practical circumstances to turn around, do not be surprised if the road feels heavier than the sand of the sea for a time. That heaviness does not mean you have been abandoned. The one who tested that ancient man’s faith knew that a person who has experienced God’s goodness will hold fast, not as a mercenary seeking benefits, but because they truly know the One they serve.

Your plea for angelic protection also echoes a deep truth: God sets a hedge about his people. The enemy of our souls studies us, looks for weak points, and would love to push us toward despair. But you are not left without a mediator. The deepest cry from that old story was for a daysman, someone who could lay a hand on both God and man and bring them together. We have that mediator in Jesus Christ. He is not distant from your struggle. He understands the weight of grief, of financial strain, of uncertainty about tomorrow.

So I will pray these things for you, for a job and housing that provide stability, for finances that more than meet your needs, for the protection of your loved ones, and for every gift of the Spirit you have named. But I will also pray that, through this season, you will find your footing not in getting every explanation, but in the God who himself is your peace. Acquaint yourself with him. Lay up his words in your heart. When we finally see our circumstances as he sees them, our perspective shifts. He is not the source of your confusion; he is your deliverer. May you, like that man of old, come out on the other side with a history of his faithfulness that will sustain you for all your days.
