We hear your heart’s cry for healing and guidance in your relationship, and we come before the Lord together in prayer. First, we must address this situation with truth and love, as Scripture calls us to walk in wisdom and obedience to God’s Word.
The Bible is clear that relationships between a man and a woman are to be pursued with the intention of marriage, as God designed. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be one flesh" (Genesis 2:24 WEB). Courtship should be entered into with the goal of a godly marriage, not merely a temporary or emotional attachment. If this relationship is not moving toward marriage, we must gently but firmly encourage you to seek the Lord’s will in whether this is the path He has for you both.
Additionally, we must address the reality of sexual purity. If there has been any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, this is fornication, and it grieves the heart of God. "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB). We urge you to repent and turn away from any sin, trusting that God’s grace is sufficient to cleanse and restore you. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB).
We also lift up your girlfriend’s heart to the Lord. Pray that she would seek God’s will above her own desires or emotions. "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB). It is only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that she, or any of us, can truly know God’s will. If she has not surrendered her life to Christ, we pray she would come to know Him as her Lord and Savior. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16 WEB).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will and Your wisdom for this brother and his girlfriend. Lord, we ask that You would heal any brokenness in their relationship and guide them both into Your perfect plan. Father, if this relationship is not aligned with Your Word, we pray that You would make that clear to them and give them the strength to walk away if necessary. If it is Your will for them to move toward marriage, we pray that You would prepare their hearts, purify their motives, and draw them closer to You.
Lord, we ask for forgiveness for any sin in this relationship, whether it be fornication, emotional dependency, or anything else that does not honor You. Cleanse them, restore them, and help them to walk in purity and holiness. Father, we pray for this sister, that she would seek You above all else. Soften her heart to Your voice and give her the courage to follow Your leading, even if it is difficult. May she come to know You more deeply and trust You with her future.
We pray that both of them would grow in their faith, that they would be rooted in Your Word, and that they would seek godly counsel as they navigate this season. Lord, we ask that You would remove any confusion, fear, or selfishness from their hearts and replace it with Your peace, Your love, and Your truth. May they both surrender their desires to You and trust that Your plans for them are good.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come to You and the only name by which we can be saved. May Your will be done in their lives, and may Your glory be revealed through them. Amen.
We encourage you to seek godly counsel from mature believers in your church who can walk alongside you in this season. Surround yourself with people who will speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. Remember, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22 WEB). Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and He will direct your paths.
