Please pray for my relationship

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Please pray for my relationship with my girlfriend to be healed and that God would guide her in her decision to be with me. Thank you.

We hear your heart’s cry for healing and guidance in your relationship, and we come before the Lord together in prayer. First, we must address this situation with truth and love, as Scripture calls us to walk in wisdom and obedience to God’s Word.

The Bible is clear that relationships between a man and a woman are to be pursued with the intention of marriage, as God designed. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be one flesh" (Genesis 2:24 WEB). Courtship should be entered into with the goal of a godly marriage, not merely a temporary or emotional attachment. If this relationship is not moving toward marriage, we must gently but firmly encourage you to seek the Lord’s will in whether this is the path He has for you both.

Additionally, we must address the reality of sexual purity. If there has been any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, this is fornication, and it grieves the heart of God. "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB). We urge you to repent and turn away from any sin, trusting that God’s grace is sufficient to cleanse and restore you. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB).

We also lift up your girlfriend’s heart to the Lord. Pray that she would seek God’s will above her own desires or emotions. "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB). It is only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that she, or any of us, can truly know God’s will. If she has not surrendered her life to Christ, we pray she would come to know Him as her Lord and Savior. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16 WEB).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will and Your wisdom for this brother and his girlfriend. Lord, we ask that You would heal any brokenness in their relationship and guide them both into Your perfect plan. Father, if this relationship is not aligned with Your Word, we pray that You would make that clear to them and give them the strength to walk away if necessary. If it is Your will for them to move toward marriage, we pray that You would prepare their hearts, purify their motives, and draw them closer to You.

Lord, we ask for forgiveness for any sin in this relationship, whether it be fornication, emotional dependency, or anything else that does not honor You. Cleanse them, restore them, and help them to walk in purity and holiness. Father, we pray for this sister, that she would seek You above all else. Soften her heart to Your voice and give her the courage to follow Your leading, even if it is difficult. May she come to know You more deeply and trust You with her future.

We pray that both of them would grow in their faith, that they would be rooted in Your Word, and that they would seek godly counsel as they navigate this season. Lord, we ask that You would remove any confusion, fear, or selfishness from their hearts and replace it with Your peace, Your love, and Your truth. May they both surrender their desires to You and trust that Your plans for them are good.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come to You and the only name by which we can be saved. May Your will be done in their lives, and may Your glory be revealed through them. Amen.

We encourage you to seek godly counsel from mature believers in your church who can walk alongside you in this season. Surround yourself with people who will speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. Remember, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22 WEB). Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and He will direct your paths.

We can hear how much this weighs on you. When a relationship feels fragile, every day can feel uncertain, and the waiting is hard. We’re praying with you, not for a particular outcome, but that God, who knows both your hearts, will guide her with clarity and bring healing to whatever has been broken.

In seasons like this, it’s easy to pull back from others and ruminate alone. Instead, lean into the body of Christ. Share this with a trusted pastor, a mature Christian friend, or a small group who can pray with you and help you listen for God’s voice. They can steady you when your own hopes feel loud and tangled.

Above all, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. His love for you is unchanging, no matter how this unfolds. Entrust this relationship to Him, and ask Him to align your desires with His good and trustworthy will, even if that looks different from what you’re hoping right now.

Lord, we lift up this brother to You. Quiet his anxious thoughts and give him Your peace. Guide his girlfriend with wisdom and guard her from confusion or haste. Heal the hurts between them, however You see fit, and draw each of them closer to You. Help him to rest in Your faithfulness, not in what he can’t control. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The very leaves of the tree are for healing, the little things, the common mercies, the least touches of Christ’s grace carry a restoring virtue for every wounded soul. Yet see first that your own spirit is brought in true submission to the Great Physician. He healed all that had need of healing while He sojourned here, and the costly balm of His Atonement has lost none of its power, but His healing work begins where we confess our sickness. A broken heart, a heart rent by a sense of sin and turned from every false way, that is the patient upon whom He lays His hand. It may be you have asked for a mended earthly bond when your own soul stands in deeper need of pardon and divine renewal. Remember, the Savior first said, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you,” and in that word pardon and healing were one.

The desire to see a relationship restored is not wrong, but the healing that lasts, that changes the life-blood and makes the nature other than it was, comes only when we seek first the Lord Himself. Guidance is promised to those who take God for their Guide, who bow with submission to His will and are dethroned of their own obstinacy. Great principles are infused in such a heart, to avoid everything that is evil, to walk not in the way the current goes, but by faith in Jehovah. If this affection and its continuance run counter to the holy pattern set forth in Scripture, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with all intimacy reserved for that sacred estate, then no amount of praying for guidance can make a crooked path straight. The healing you truly need may begin with a painful yet blessed breaking, a sober decision to relinquish what cannot be offered to God as a holy sacrifice.

Let this be your first petition: “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; forgive me, and let me walk in Thy ways.” From a pardoning God flow such mercies that spirits revive and we gather our share of Divine gifts. Wait upon Him until you taste that personal forgiveness, that real saving work which is of God alone. Then, with a cleansed heart and an obedient will, you may safely ask Him to guide another’s steps. His guidance is unerring, but it is given to the meek, to those who tremble at His Word and refuse to lean upon their own understanding. I warn you, you must have this healing before you can rightly order any earthly relation. Lay hold of Christ by faith, for faith must always be obedient if it is true. Let not delay or the fear of pain keep you back. The power of the Lord is present to heal, even now, while His Word is sounding in your ears. Do not be among those who sit in the very region of Divine power and yet feel not its operations.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
