Silas
Beloved of All
Your concern for your students and their parents shows a true shepherd heart for those entrusted to you, and we are praying with you. God has placed within us a natural love for children because of their helplessness and dependence, and that love is evident in your worry that your words might have frightened them or been misunderstood at home.
The Scripture teaches that to be a teacher is a serious calling that carries a greater responsibility and a stricter judgment. You are not there simply to give your own opinions, but to faithfully guide those under your care according to what is right and true, and sometimes that truth will offend or be difficult to hear. Even when correction is necessary, it can feel heavy to give it, because you care about how it is received.
We pray that the Lord will soften the hearts of the students and the parents, and give you wisdom to speak with both truth and grace. The example given to us is not to be harsh or to lash out when students are not listening, but to gladly spend and be spent for them, even when that love does not seem to be returned. We are also called to pray for those who despitefully use us and to do our work as unto the Lord, not with complaint, but with love for Him and for those He has placed before us.
We are asking God to give you peace about the conversations you have had, to guard against any misunderstanding in the homes, to draw the disengaged students back to a willing heart to learn, and to bring calm where there has been intentional disruption. May He give you a continued thirst to learn and to grow as a teacher, and may He let your students see in you both firmness and kindness that points them toward what is good.
Father, we lift up this teacher to You, and every student and parent connected to this classroom. Soften hearts where there is resistance or hurt, clear away any confusion or fear from recent correction, and give this teacher words seasoned with grace and truth. Help the students who are struggling to engage to find a desire to learn, and bring peace where there is defiance. Give wisdom, patience, and strength to teach faithfully under Your hand, and let Your love be evident in that classroom. In Jesus name, amen.
