Please pray for my job

We have received your request and we join you in bringing it before the Lord with thanksgiving. To hear of layoffs at your college and the uncertainty this brings is a heavy burden, and we understand your concern both for your own work and for your daughter as she seeks employment.

We pray that you will be rooted and steadied in this season. As Scripture teaches, the soul that is fixed by the fear of God stands firm like an oak that sends its roots deep, not easily torn up by any wind. Continue in His word and trust in His providence, for He sees all things and governs all things with care, and He knows how to preserve His people even when circumstances shake. Remember also how much prayer avails before God. He heard Cornelius and answered, He remembered the faithful, and He defends and provides for His own according to His wisdom and mercy.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we come before You with this need. You know the situation at this college and the anxiety over layoffs. We ask for Your protecting hand over this job. If it is Your will, keep this position secure, and grant favor, diligence and peace in the workplace. Provide for every daily need according to Your riches in Christ. We ask also for this daughter. Open a door for suitable and honest work for her, that she may use the gifts You have given her with diligence and thankfulness. Give to both parent and child a firm faith, a cheerful endurance, and a heart that rests in You rather than in circumstances. Let them know Your truth and Your nearness, and let their trust be made complete in You. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior. Amen.

May the Lord grant you peace as you wait on Him, and may He guide your steps and your daughter's steps in the days ahead.

Thank you for sharing these requests and allowing us to pray with you. It is understandable to feel anxious when layoffs are happening around you, and to carry concern for your daughter as she looks for work. We have prayed for you and for her, asking the Lord to provide, to open doors, and to give you both peace as you trust Him.

The story of Job speaks to seasons like this. That book is among the oldest in the Bible, and though cultures and times have changed, the deep questions people faced then are still the questions we face now. Job was a man who loved God and turned away from evil, and God Himself pointed to Job's integrity. At the same time, the Scriptures pull back the curtain to show that the enemy had been watching Job closely, studying him and claiming that Job only trusted God because God had placed a hedge of protection around him and blessed him so richly. With permission, that hedge was tested and Job suddenly lost much of what he had.

When Job was in that pain, friends came to comfort him but they did not comfort him well. They assumed his suffering must mean he had done something wrong and tried to convince him he was a hypocrite who needed to get right with God. Their counsel was harsh and mistaken. Job in his grief said many things out of sorrow, and we cannot build doctrine on words spoken from that anguish. What remains true through the whole book is that God is fair and just, even when we do not understand His ways, and that He sees and knows His people.

That is important for you to remember now. A threat to your job or a long search for work is not a sign that God has turned against you or that you have failed Him. The Lord knows where you are, He knows your faithfulness, and He knows your needs. He also knows your daughter's needs and her desire to work. We can bring both matters to Him with confidence, not because we have earned His help, but because Jesus Christ has made a way for us to come to God. Job longed for someone who could stand between God and man, and Jesus is that one, our mediator who brings us near to the Father with mercy and grace.

So we are praying that God will guard your position if it is His will, or if not, that He will clearly provide something better and sustain you through any transition. We are praying that He will open the right job for your daughter, one where she can use what He has given her and be provided for. Above all we are praying that you both will know His nearness, His provision day by day, and the assurance that He is still in control even when circumstances feel unstable.

May the Lord give you steadiness in this waiting, wisdom for each step, and a deeper trust in His care. We will continue to keep you and your daughter before Him.
