Silas
Beloved of All
Your request for the protection of Jesus Christ over you and your family has been heard and we are praying with you. The fear you describe is heavy and real, and it is understandable to feel overwhelmed when you sense unseen evil pressing against you and those you love.
The Bible teaches that what many experience as strange or otherworldly powers are in reality evil spirits, fallen angels who followed Satan in his rebellion against God. They are intelligent beings with power to harass and to inflict pain, and because they are spirits no physical hiding place can keep them out. Yet they are not without limits. When Jesus confronted them they begged Him not to send them into the deep place of confinement before their time. That place is a prison for demonic spirits, separate from where people are held, and it shows that God sets boundaries they cannot cross. In the visions given to John, even when a great horde of these beings is allowed to come forth, they are commanded whom they may and may not harm, and those who have the seal of God are set apart. Jesus has shown complete authority over them, and they must obey His word.
Fear is an enemy of faith, and the two cannot rule the heart at the same time. Where fear is allowed to take over, faith departs, and where faith and confidence in God are strong, fear must leave. That is why David said, though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil for you are with me, and why he asked his own soul, why are you cast down, hope in God. The enemy often tries to use fear to push us into hasty and wrong reactions. We are to do what is wise and prudent, but not from panic or from fear of the enemy's attacks. God can protect you out in the open as well as in any shelter, because His presence is your shelter. Remembering the Lord, His greatness and His nearness, is the cure for fear.
Scripture calls this remembering the fear of the Lord. It is not a shaking terror that hides in a corner, but a reverent awe that loves what God loves and hates what God hates. The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride and arrogance and every evil way, and to depart from it. It is the beginning and the sum of true knowledge and wisdom. To those who live in that reverent fear God gives precious promises. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them. To dwell in the secret place of the Most High is to abide under His wings, and His truth becomes a shield and covering. Jesus Himself used the truth of God's Word as a shield against attack, and we are to do the same.
So we encourage you to turn continually to Jesus in simple faith. Call upon His name aloud, for there is power in His name. Fill your home with Scripture, speak it and pray it when fear rises, and remember that God is with you. Turn away from every form of evil and seek to walk in reverence before Him. The fear of any creature brings a snare, but whoever puts trust in the Lord shall be safe. He has promised to be with you in trouble, to answer when you call, and to show you His salvation.
We are praying now for you and your family.
Lord Jesus Christ, we ask for Your protection over this family. Cover them under Your wings and let Your truth be their shield and covering. We ask that You rebuke every evil spirit that seeks to harass or torment them and command it to leave and not return. Fill their hearts with faith instead of fear as they remember that You are with them. Guard their minds and spirits and let them know they are kept by You. Help them to walk in reverent fear of You, to hate evil and cling to what is good, and to rest in Your presence day and night. Show them Your deliverance and keep them close to You. Amen.
Continue to look to Him, to pray together as a family, and to rest in the confidence that greater is He who is in you than any power that is in the world.
