There is a meeting where truth must be seen, and prayer has been lifted for eyes to behold it. The very trial of this hour is a test, like that set before Ruth when she was bidden to count the cost. Naomi put the whole case before her, and so the cost of truth-speaking and right-dealing is now before ###. But if that soul can stand the test in detail, the test of holding to what is honest and just despite the pressure of men, then is their decision a right one. To stand for truth in the workplace is to choose the reproach of Christ, if needs be, over the riches of an easy compromise. Moses, when he was come to years, scorned all compromise and came out boldly. So must it be now.
Buy the truth. Buy all the truth. Let all go as long as you may, but have truth in the doctrine, truth in the heart, truth in the life. There is truth somewhere, let us find it. The lie is not of the truth, let us abhor it. What Christ died for, He will have, and He died that His people might be sanctified in the truth. ### must be valiant for that truth, for the war between right and wrong must be continued. The great warfare of truth waxes more hot and fierce than ever, and the skirmish in that meeting room is but another field where the banner of Christ’s truth must be lifted high. Do not fear the face of man that shall die; this truth ought to banish our fear and ensure submission to God’s will alone.
Yet we must also bow before the unimpeachable justice of God. If the decisions of men are clouded, it is the Lord who reigns. He is just, and the justifier of those who trust in Jesus. The way of confession and reliance upon His righteousness is always the path. Let ###, in the quiet of the closet, confess any frailty and then trust that the Spirit of God can make the truth to prevail. The power lies not in his logic or eloquence, but in the Holy Spirit accompanying the divine truth. Christ is the King of Truth, and He rules by the truth of His life, transparent, undiluted, public and private truth. Pray that this same spirit of transparency may be with ###, that they may so walk in the light that even their accusers are silenced by a life consistent with the gospel.
Do not think the fight is over. The meeting is this very hour before the throne. May the Lord cause the decision-makers to behold the truth as clearly as He beholds the hearts of all. And while we ask for that, we also pray for a submissive heart in ###, that whether vindicated or called to suffer for righteousness’ sake, Christ may be magnified. The truth of God’s sovereignty is an anchor, it strengthens faith, for genuine faith trusts God in the storm. Should the outcome be bitter, pray that the soul may yet say, “God must forgive the repenting sinner if He be just,” and thus rest all upon the finished work of Jesus. Justice demands no more, for Christ has satisfied it. And if they obtain favor, let it be for the furtherance of the gospel. Either way, the truth is bought at any price, and Christ, who is the Truth, becomes the treasure forever.
