Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have received your request and we thank God for your desire to set apart tomorrow for fasting and prayer before the Lord. It is good that you wish to seek Him with a single heart, and we will stand with you in prayer.
We pray that the Lord will sanctify your motives, your focus, your prayers, your deeds and your conduct, so that all may be as a pleasing fragrance before Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches that this is the will of God, even your sanctification, and without it no one will see the Lord. We ask Him to form this work in you by His grace.
We also pray that He will give you strength for tomorrow. Fasting together with prayer brings great power, for it makes the soul light and winged, it quiets wicked desires, humbles the heart that is lifted up, and helps us to pray with watchfulness. When prayer comes first and fasting accompanies it, the soul rises above earthly things and prevails with God. If your body is weak, the Lord still receives a heart that turns from excess and seeks Him sincerely, for He looks upon the inward disposition.
Remember the word of the Lord concerning fasting and prayer, that these can be done in secret, not to be seen by men but by your Father who sees in secret. So we encourage you to keep tomorrow free from display, seeking only the approval of Christ, letting your voice be heard before Him alone. He hears those who call upon Him in truth, and He answers not according to our loudness but according to His mercy and power.
Therefore we pray that tomorrow will be entirely according to the will of God, founded on the living Word of God, and inspired and guided and anointed by the Holy Spirit. May your prayers and your thanksgiving be heard, and may the Lord answer with His great power and might as He knows best for your good.
We also join you in asking for healing and freedom in spirit, soul and body, through the wounds and the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is our physician and redeemer, and we ask Him to grant you wholeness and to keep you in His peace.
We have offered counsel and now we offer prayer for you, for we need both. We will continue to pray for you, and we urge you also to remain awake and watchful yourself, for the prayer of others profits us most when we ourselves are alert before God. May the Lord keep you, strengthen you tomorrow, and make your fasting and prayer fruitful for your salvation and for His glory.
