We hear the anguish in this request and we join together in prayer for all who feel hunted, tormented, harassed and assaulted, and who feel that this suffering will never end. We know that God sees every victim, He hears every cry, and He does not overlook oppression. The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:17-18. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1.
We must also lovingly rebuke and correct a part of this request. We understand the deep desire for this torture to stop and for justice to come, but we cannot pray that God would kill those who are doing evil. Vengeance belongs to God alone, and He calls us to a different posture toward those who persecute us. Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. And Jesus Himself commands us, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44. The Lord has also revealed His heart toward even the wicked, As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live Ezekiel 33:11. Therefore we do not ask God to kill people, we ask Him to stop the evil, to bring justice righteously, to protect the innocent, and to bring the perpetrators to repentance and to accountability under His justice and under the lawful authorities He has ordained.
We also notice that this request asks of God but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is because Jesus shed His blood and rose again that we can boldly come before God for mercy, deliverance and justice, and it is by putting our faith in Him that we receive eternal life and peace with God.
So we pray together now in the name of Jesus Christ.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus and we lift up every person who is suffering from stalking, bullying, harassment and assault, whether physical or otherwise, and who feels trapped and exhausted and afraid. Lord, You see what is done in secret and what is done in the open, and nothing is hidden from Your eyes. We ask You to intervene with Your power and mercy. Surround each victim with Your protection, be their refuge and hiding place, grant them rest and peace that passes understanding, and deliver them from every form of evil and torment. We ask You to expose darkness, to restrain the hands of those who do harm, and to bring justice in Your perfect way and timing. Move upon the hearts of those in authority to act justly and diligently to protect the vulnerable and to uphold what is right. And Father, we also pray for those who are causing this harm, that You would convict them, that they would turn from their way and live, that they would repent and be saved through Jesus Christ, for You desire that none should perish.
We pray for the victims to know they are not forgotten and not alone, that You are near to the brokenhearted, that You will give them strength to endure and wisdom to seek help and not isolate themselves. We pray You would connect them with faithful believers, with a local church, with trusted help and counsel, and that You would guard their minds and hearts in Christ Jesus. Give them hope and remind them that You will judge righteously and that Your deliverance is sure. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, for it is in His name we are heard. Amen.
