Please hear my heartfelt prayer

Himani2

Disciple of Prayer
Hey, my God,

For the past 15–20 years, I have been asking You for the same thing, but You have neither answered my prayer nor opened one path for me or shown me another. What am I supposed to understand from this? Does this mean that You do not love me like You love other people?

Now I am only asking for one thing: I want ### to call me on his own and say that he wants us to be the way we were before and start our relationship again.

Please, God, accept this one request of mine. Until You answer this prayer, I will keep asking You for it every day, because I feel that nothing has changed for me despite all these years.

Please hear me and help me, God. Amen.

We hear the deep ache and weariness in your heart after carrying this same prayer for fifteen to twenty years, and we join with you before the Father together in Jesus name. We understand how painful it feels when it seems heaven is silent and how easy it is to wonder if God loves others more than He loves you. Please be assured that His love for you is not measured by whether He gives you exactly what you ask for, when you ask for it.

The Bible tells us that God loves you with an everlasting love, Jeremiah 31:3, and that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, Romans 5:8. Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, Romans 8:38-39. His love is proven at the cross, not by whether a specific desire is granted. His thoughts and ways are higher than ours, Isaiah 55:8-9, and He works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28.

We also want to gently and lovingly correct how we approach God in prayer. Persistence in prayer is good and Jesus taught us to always pray and not give up, Luke 18:1, but prayer is not demanding that God must do what we insist upon. True prayer seeks His will above our own, as Jesus prayed, Your will be done, Matthew 6:10. The Scripture says, This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us, 1 John 5:14. Sometimes we ask and do not receive because we ask amiss, James 4:3, or because God in His wisdom has a different and better path for us, even if we cannot see it yet. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11.

We notice your prayer asks that this man would call you on his own and want to start your relationship again. We do not know all the details of this relationship, but we want to speak biblical truth over it in love. God designed romantic love to lead toward marriage, which is a lifelong covenant commitment between a man and a woman, Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6. Being a boyfriend or girlfriend should be understood as courtship with the goal of discerning marriage to another Christian believer, not simply a relationship for companionship or affection. We are to be equally yoked with fellow believers, 2 Corinthians 6:14, and to pursue purity. If this relationship involved sexual intimacy outside of marriage, the Bible calls that fornication and calls us to repentance and to flee from it, 1 Corinthians 6:18, Hebrews 13:4. If that is part of your story, we lovingly urge you to confess it to God and seek His forgiveness and cleansing. We also encourage you to ask whether this relationship was leading you both closer to Christ and toward a godly marriage, or whether God may have closed this door for your protection and for His better purpose.

We also noticed your prayer was addressed to God but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We say this with great compassion because there is no other way to come to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is only through faith in Jesus, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we have access to God and assurance that He hears us, Romans 10:9, Ephesians 2:8-9. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to pray in His name.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one to You. You see the tears that have been sown for so many years, You collect them in Your bottle, Psalm 56:8, and You are near to those who are brokenhearted, Psalm 34:18. Lord, we ask first that You would reveal Your perfect love to this heart in a fresh way and heal the wound of feeling unloved or forgotten. Help her to rest in the truth that You do love her deeply and that Your silence is not rejection.

Father, we lay this desire for this man to return before You and we ask for Your will to be done above all. If it is Your will and would honor You and lead to a godly marriage between a man and a woman who both love You, then we ask that You would work in both hearts and make that path clear in a way that honors purity and holiness. If it is not Your will, we ask for Your grace to bring peace, closure, and healing, and to close this door so clearly that she can move forward without torment. Give her the courage to surrender this desire to You, to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, Matthew 6:33, trusting that You will add what is needed. Cleanse any sin, renew her mind, and lead her to a godly spouse if that is Your plan, or to contentment and fruitful service in singleness if that is Your calling for this season, 1 Corinthians 7:7. Fill her heart with hope again and show her the good path You have for her future, Psalm 32:8. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to continue praying, but to shift your prayer from God do what I ask to Father, show me Your will and give me grace to accept it. Keep seeking Him daily in His Word, surround yourself with wise biblical counsel, and trust that even when you feel nothing has changed, God is still working. He hears you, He loves you, and He will answer in the way that is best, even if it is not the answer you expect.

We hear the weight in your prayer. To carry the same longing for ### to ### years and feel like no path has opened is deeply tiring, and we understand why you would start to wonder if God loves you less than He loves others. He does not.

Waiting that long does not mean you are forgotten. We have seen how unanswered prayer can leave the heart sick and lonely, and how God often uses that long delay not to push us away but to draw us to seek Him Himself even more than the answer we want. Hope grows as we learn to trust His character, that He is present and good even when His purposes feel mysterious and slow.

You have been faithful to keep bringing this one request about calling and wanting to start again. We will keep praying with you, and we also pray that God will give you growing peace, clarity, and wisdom for whatever is next, and a deeper sense of His love for you right now in this loneliness.

One step that often helps in a long season like this is not carrying it alone. Staying rooted in regular worship with other believers and sharing this burden face to face with one trusted pastor or mature Christian friend can ease the isolation and help you hear God more clearly as you keep seeking Him.

Father, we lift our friend to You. You see these many years of asking and the ache for companionship. Wrap him in the assurance of Your love, quiet the fear that he is less loved, and give him wisdom and peace as he waits on You. Lead him step by step according to Your good will. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your long crying unto the Lord for these fifteen or twenty years has been heard, and your sorrow in thinking yourself unloved is a very deep one, and I would draw near to it for your instruction and comfort.

Do not so shamefully question the love of God. It is written, Jacob have I loved, and that love is not measured by the granting of every desire we lay before Him. O child of God, you are as much loved of God as if He had not another child to love. You have all His love, as much as if there were none but you for Him to love. Instead of its being an evidence of harshness on God's part when He withholds, it is often a token of special favour. The Lord has waited that He might be gracious unto you, and when the waiting turns to a glorious transaction of grace upon the sinner's heart, then the time of love has come. Think not that because a prayer tarries, therefore love is gone.

There is a general guide for our conduct when prayer seems unanswered. Hope on, poor soul, and hope on forever. Brethren must not take delays in prayer for denial. God's long dated bills will be punctually honoured. We must not suffer Satan to shake our confidence in the God of truth by pointing to our unanswered prayers.

Yet we must also inquire into the causes of unanswered prayer, and here we may get a few special directions which may be available in your case. We have all offered what I may call pitiful abortions of prayer, unripe figs, stringless bows, headless arrows, which He has borne with in His longsuffering. And we have asked a great variety of mercies, and received a long list of answers, if we would but be our own preachers and count them. But get the promise and then offer the prayer, and the prayer will be answered as sure as God is God. Get your own fancy into your head and you will only have to get it out again, for it will be of no service to you.

You write that you will keep asking every day until God grants that this one person should call you on his own and say that he wants to be as before and start your relationship again. To persist in prayer is right, for they that wait upon the Lord shall not want any good thing, and that is the right kind of independency, to know no dependence except upon God. But to fix your will upon one particular turn of providence and to tell the Lord that nothing has changed unless He grants that very thing, is to set your fancy above His promise.

I must deal faithfully with you concerning this relationship for which you ask. We hold fast the historic biblical ethic which God has revealed for our good, that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that the intimacies of love and living together belong only within that covenant. For that reason I cannot affirm or celebrate or ask God to bless a relationship that runs against it. To do so would be to ask Him to deny His own holiness, and He never forgives sin without making us forsake sin. When He casts our sins into the depths of the sea, He causes us to do the same. The love of God reigning in the heart makes a man hate his sin and love holiness.

Therefore I will not pray as you have worded it, that God would at any cost bring about this reunion as you desire it. That would be to pray for your fancy and not for His promise. What I will do, and what I entreat you to do with me, is to pray that God would be very gracious unto you at the voice of your cry, that He would touch your heart and make you feel more deeply your need of a Saviour, and give you great love to Himself. If you are His child, your affairs, both spiritual and temporal, are in His hand, and He can make them take a different turn in a way that shall make you a living witness of His power to answer prayer for spiritual and for temporal things too. If this relationship could be holy before Him, namely a lawful marriage entered into in the fear of the Lord and in purity, then pray that His will be done in it. If it cannot be so, then pray that He would crucify that desire and make you dead to what you once loved and alive in newness of life.

Go home to your chamber, fall on your knees, and make confession of your own sinfulness and unworthiness. That church and that soul which is willing to make such confession is on the eve of a visitation of love. Wait only upon God. Let your faith hang on nothing but the promise of God, and have no other support but that. The more unworthiness you feel, the more proof you have of the great love of God in having chosen and called you and made you an heir of bliss, and if there is such love between God and you, you may ask very boldly, but let it be for Christ's sake and according to His will.

So I pray for you, not that God would grant a fancy, but that you may know and believe the love that God has to you, that you may see the Cross as the window through which the love of God is best seen, and that you may be stirred up to say, O thou my soul bless God the Lord, and all that in me is be stirred up His holy name to magnify and bless. May He give you grace to wait upon Him, and in His own time and way to do you good beyond all that you have asked or thought, for Christ's sake. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
