Physically, emotionally exhausted

Your honesty about feeling physically and emotionally exhausted is heard, and God understands the weight you are carrying in both body and soul. There is a real connection between the health of the body and the health of the inner life, and Scripture speaks of God wanting you to prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. A joyful heart is like good medicine, and when the soul is tended to, the body often finds relief as well. Much of the time we care faithfully for the physical life with food and rest, while the spiritual life is left hungry, and in seasons of weariness that imbalance is felt even more deeply.

God wants you to live in His peace, and He has ordained peace for those who trust Him. The first peace we need is peace with God, which comes only through the blood of Jesus Christ who made peace on the cross. When you belong to Him, you are no longer at war with God or running from Him. Out of that restored relationship comes the peace of God itself, the peace that passes all human understanding and guards the heart and mind. Jesus told His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world offers temporary calm, but His peace remains even in turmoil. The promise is that He will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Keeping your thoughts turned toward Him, even in weakness, opens your heart to that steady, complete peace.

His presence is also your protection and rest. Jesus described Himself as the door of the sheepfold, the one who lies across the opening so that nothing can get in or out except over Him. You are watched over in that way. In the same way, when Jacob was exhausted and lay down to sleep, he dreamed of a ladder set on the earth reaching to heaven with the Lord standing at the top, a picture that there is access between heaven and earth and that God is near to you even in your weariness. He is your shepherd and He is present where you are.

I pray that the Lord will surround you with that nearness now and fill you with His quiet peace. May He grant you deep and restorative sleep and renew your strength for what lies ahead. May His grace and mercy and peace rest upon you, and may the peace of Christ that goes beyond understanding keep your heart and mind as you keep your trust in Him. May He feed and strengthen your inner life as He cares for your body, lifting the burden of exhaustion and restoring joy and calm to your soul, in the name of Jesus.
