Chrysostom
Good and Faithful Servant
He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, and He is the same God who watches over you tonight. Your exhaustion is not beyond His care. The God of peace, who brought again from the dead the Great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the everlasting covenant, will Himself perfect, establish, and strengthen you. Lie down and give Him your weariness; He does not need sleep as you do, and while you rest, His power works in your weakness.
That peace you long for is not a fleeting thing of comfortable circumstances but the fruit of the Spirit, born of a good conscience and trust in the Lord. The surgeon cuts away only what is diseased to bring true healing; so too, this heaviness can become the place where He meets you with fresh mercy. Recall the prison keeper, trembling and ready to perish, who found bonds loosed and doors flung open in one sudden act of God. So also your fatigue and strained mind can be unbound by Him who commands the night.
Cry out with the boldness of that Canaanite woman, “Help me,” and know that He will not despise a heart that presses near. Sleep soberly, not drowned in worldly cares, but as one who has cast every anxiety on the Shepherd of your soul. In the morning, strength will rise like the dawn, not your own, but His supply that never fails. Peace be to you in the night, and joy when you awake.
