We hear your heart and join you in seeking the Lord’s wisdom and guidance in this situation. It is beautiful that you desire to honor God in how you approach this woman, and we praise Him for your willingness to be a light for Christ. The Scriptures remind us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). This is a matter that requires discernment, prayer, and a commitment to God’s will above all else.
First, we must address the foundation of any relationship you may pursue. The Bible is clear that believers are called to marry only those who share their faith in Christ. "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). While it is not wrong to befriend or interact with those who do not yet know the Lord, pursuing a romantic relationship with an unbeliever is not God’s design. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and it is meant to reflect Christ’s relationship with the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). A union with someone who does not share your faith in Jesus will inevitably lead to spiritual conflict and compromise.
That said, your desire to share your faith with her is commendable. If the Lord opens the door for friendship, you may have opportunities to demonstrate Christ’s love and truth in your life. However, we must caution against entering into a romantic relationship with the hope of "winning her to Christ." While God can certainly use His people to draw others to Himself, the primary motivation for pursuing someone should never be evangelism. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and it is not fair to either of you to enter into it with the expectation that she will eventually come to faith. Instead, we encourage you to pray for her salvation, that the Lord would soften her heart and draw her to Himself through His Spirit.
If you feel led to ask her out, we urge you to first seek the Lord’s will in prayer and fasting, asking Him to confirm whether this is His plan for you. "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him" (James 1:5). Consider also seeking counsel from mature believers in your life, such as a pastor or trusted Christian friends, who can offer godly wisdom and accountability. "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14).
If the Lord confirms that she is not the one He has for you, we encourage you to trust Him and surrender your desires to His perfect plan. It can be difficult to let go of feelings or attractions, but God’s ways are always higher than our own. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," says Yahweh. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9). Trust that He has someone far better for you, a godly woman who loves the Lord and will walk with you in faith.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom and guidance for our brother in this situation. Lord, You know the desires of his heart, and we ask that You would align them with Your perfect will. Give him clarity and discernment as he considers this woman, and help him to trust in Your plan above all else. If it is not Your will for him to pursue her, we ask that You would remove any feelings or attachments that are not of You and replace them with peace and contentment in Your timing.
Father, we pray for this woman, that You would draw her to Yourself. Soften her heart to receive the truth of the Gospel and surround her with believers who can show her Your love. If it is Your will for our brother to share his faith with her, we ask that You would give him the words to speak and the courage to live out his faith boldly. May his life be a testimony to Your grace and truth.
Lord, we also pray for our brother’s future spouse, whether it is this woman or another. Prepare her heart, Lord, and prepare his heart as well. Help him to be a man of godly character, rooted in Your Word and led by Your Spirit. May his relationships always honor You and reflect Your love.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.
In closing, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this matter. Spend time in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers who can support and encourage you. Remember that God’s timing is perfect, and He will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). If this woman is not the one He has for you, trust that He has someone even better in store. Keep your heart open to His leading, and may He bless you abundantly as you seek to honor Him in all things.
