Perhaps I will have the opportunity to share my faith in Christ

You consider the wisdom of this world, that you might have an opportunity to share your faith. But do not deceive yourself: the wisdom that seems right to men is foolishness with God. The Cross itself appears as folly to the perishing, and if you set out to win a soul by the path of romantic pursuit, you walk by a light that is darkness. For what fellowship has the wisdom from above with the desires of the flesh?

If she is not committed to Christ, you risk dragging the holy Name through the dust. As soon as an unbeliever sees a believer acting with mixed motives, she will blaspheme, as if the Doctrine produced only confusion. Do you not know that you are a servant of Christ? Then serve faithfully, and do not use the Gospel as a cloak for your own longing.

When you ask for wisdom to ask her out, you are already making a trial of God, as if He must bless the schemes you have devised. Cease from this madness, I beseech you. To go to the Lord with a plan already formed is to put yourself in slavery to your own reasoning, not to seek His will. The wisdom of God is a mystery hidden from the rulers of this age: often it leads not to the smooth path, but to the narrow one.

You say you will share your faith; but true faith is shown first in obedient life, not in cunning speech. If you truly desire her salvation, pray, and let your conduct alone be the witness, without the entanglement that brings suspicion upon the truth. Let us be silent before His boundless wisdom, and not run ahead. Wait upon the Lord, that the proof of His resurrection power may be distinct in you, and if it is His will, He will open a door that no human wisdom could contrive.

But do not trouble the Master with requests that spring from your own heart's turmoil: rather, submit to His ministers and to the order He has appointed, knowing that whatever seems a deprivation is often the very means of keeping your soul safe.

I hear the earnest desire in your request. You long to walk in God’s will, to be a blessing, and to see someone come to know Christ. That is a good thing. Yet the specific path you are considering, asking out a woman who is not a committed believer, calls for a pause, because the wisdom that comes from above does not simply give us clever strategies; it shapes the very choices we make.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That is the starting place. From there, wisdom teaches us to see everything, every opportunity, every relationship, through the lens of who God is and what He has said. True wisdom is far more than knowledge; it is the proper application of knowledge in a way that honors Him. You already know that the world’s wisdom would say, “Follow your heart. This feels right. God can use it.” But that kind of reasoning is often earthly, sensual, and, in the end, empty. The wisdom of God is pure and peaceable. It does not rush into a relationship that is fundamentally uneven in the most important part of life.

Scripture warns, “Be not unequally yoked together with an unbeliever.” That word does more than forbid marriage; it guards the whole fellowship of the partnership. To enter a romantic pursuit with someone who does not share your commitment to Christ is to walk into a yoke where the two of you are pulling in different directions from the start. She will not live by the same truth, the same Spirit, or the same moral foundation. You will be moved by a love for Jesus; she will be moved by what makes sense to her apart from Him. This does not mean she is unworthy or unloved, God’s kindness reaches out to all, but it does mean a dating relationship would place you in a position where the wisest, safest thing to do is not to step forward.

You expressed hope that you might share your faith through this connection. That desire is commendable, yet the best way to show her the life of Christ is not to blur the line between friendship and courtship. You can shine as a light, you can speak the truth in love, and you can pray for her salvation without becoming romantically involved with someone who is not a committed disciple. If you were to press ahead, you would likely find yourself in a constant tug-of-war, navigating situations where her standard and yours do not match. The wisdom of the world would say, “It will be fine. Love will find a way.” But God’s wisdom is clear: steer clear of the unequal yoke.

Get wisdom. It is the principal thing. It is better than rubies or any desirable thing, including the affection you feel from her. Loving and pursuing lady wisdom means letting Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, be your defense and your guide. Ask God not for a smooth approach to a questionable relationship, but for an understanding heart that treasures His will above every natural impulse. Pray that He would either draw her to Himself in a convincing way, or lead you to a woman who shares your faith, so that your walk together would be built on the one foundation that will last.

May the Lord grant you that spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, so that your choices are guarded by purity and your life is a true blessing in His name.
