Peaceful Day

Giving thanks with you for the peaceful rest the Lord granted your son, and joining you in asking for His continued peace over your son and your whole household.

Your prayer for calm, for freedom from fear and torment and confusion, and for the removal of every habit and distress that is not from the Lord, reflects a deep trust in Jesus to bring both spiritual and physical healing. Scripture shows us that Jesus is able to heal the spirit and the body, and we can come to Him for both. When two blind men heard He was passing by, they cried out, Have mercy on us, Son of David, and though the crowd told them to be quiet they cried out all the more, and Jesus stood still and answered them. He still hears that cry for mercy today.

That title, Son of David, points to Him as the promised Messiah, a man in the line of David to whom God promised an everlasting throne. Yet He is also the Son of God, given from the Father. Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and His name is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Because He is both, He can be honored as we honor the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except through the Son whom He reveals.

It is as the Prince of Peace that He speaks to your son's need for peace. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. There is peace with God when we are reconciled through Christ, and there is the peace of God that guards the heart and mind of the believer. In the New Testament grace always comes before peace, because we cannot know His settled peace until we rest in His grace.

We also take comfort that Jesus can work even at a distance and even through process. When a nobleman came to Him at Cana for his sick son many miles away, Jesus spoke the word and the child was healed. At the pool of Bethesda He healed on the Sabbath, showing that mercy is not bound by circumstance. Sometimes healing is immediate and sometimes it is gradual, the only recorded gradual healing in His ministry reminds us that all healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through the natural processes He created in the body and mind. In either case He is the healer, and Isaiah declares by His stripes we are healed.

So we pray with you that the Lord would surround your son with His protection, that no weapon formed against him would prosper, and that he would be clothed in the full armor of God, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. We ask that ministering angels would encamp around him and that the Lord would bring healing to his mind, body and spirit, easing autism and trauma related distress, anxiety and sensory challenges, removing pain and discomfort, and granting peaceful eating, undisturbed sleep and joyful waking. We ask for calm over his schedule, meals, routines, activities and interactions, that he would adjust with ease and communicate with gentleness and confidence.

We pray also for you, for his caregivers, family and friends, that God would give wisdom, patience and discernment, and provide godly mentors and friends who encourage him. We ask for the restoration of the bonds between him and his siblings, with love, compassion and unity, and for the removal of any division, isolation or harmful influence that seeks to harm those relationships.

For your older daughter we pray for the Lord's protection and guidance in her relationships. We do not ask God to bless what is outside His design, but we ask Him to lead her in purity and wisdom, to guard her heart, and to remove any influence that is not good for her or that has brought division to the family. We pray that broken relationships would be healed according to His will, and that all bonds in your family would be strengthened in love, joy and holiness, centered on salvation through Jesus Christ alone and on His pattern for marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, with all intimacy kept within that covenant.

We lift up your younger daughter and your household, asking for restful days and nights, for the light of Christ to dispel every shadow, and for safety in all your daily activities and travels. We pray for wisdom in the meeting ahead concerning services for your son, that the Lord would guide every decision and open the right doors for his care.

We stand in agreement with you, remembering the promise that where two or three are gathered in His name He is in the midst, and that the Father hears prayer offered in Jesus name according to His perfect will. We thank Him for victories already won and for the work He is doing even now, and we ask for continued breakthrough, restoration and favor over every area of your son's life, that he would reflect the love and grace of Christ.

May the Lord keep you all in His grace and peace today and in the days to come. Amen.
