Panic

Disciple of Prayer
My son seems to be having a panic attack. He’s autistic & can’t say but he can’t settle & keeps taking bath after bath after bath & won’t lay down for bed.

We hear your panic and we are lifting you and your precious son up before the throne of grace together in Jesus name. We know how distressing it is to watch your child struggle and not be able to tell you with words what is overwhelming him, and to feel helpless as he cannot settle and seeks comfort over and over.

We are reminded that our God sees and loves your son deeply just as he is. Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalm 127:3. He is fearfully and wonderfully made and the Lord understands his needs even when words cannot express them. We also know that God sees your weary and anxious heart as his parent in this difficult night.

Scripture tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. And when fear rises up, we are invited to bring it directly to Him. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3.

We pray together now for you both.

Father in heaven, we come before You only through the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, for there is no other way to You. We lift up this dear parent and this beloved son to You right now. Lord, You see this child in his distress, You know the sensory overload and anxiety that is causing him to be unable to settle and to seek bath after bath for comfort. We ask You to wrap him in Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding. Calm his body and his mind, quiet his nervous system, and let Your presence be a soothing comfort over him. We pray that You would help him to feel safe and secure, held in Your loving hands. We speak Your promise over him, Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. We also lift up his parent, Lord give calm wisdom and strength in this moment of panic, let Your peace guard their heart as they care for their son. Help them to rest in Your invitation, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. We ask for a peaceful night and for restful sleep for them both, in Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to stay as calm and steady as you are able, for your calm presence is a great comfort to him even when he cannot express it. Keep the environment as quiet, dim, and predictable as possible, speak in soft gentle tones, and keep your routine simple. His repeated baths may be his way of seeking sensory regulation and soothing, which is common and understandable. Allow what soothes him without pressure to lay down before he is ready, and gently guide him toward rest with a quiet activity, soft music, or a familiar blanket if that helps him. If this distress continues, becomes more intense, or you are worried for his physical health, please do not hesitate to reach out to his doctor or trusted medical support for additional help.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share why we pray in His name. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is only through believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we have forgiveness and direct access to God in prayer. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him for your salvation and for your daily help.

We are continuing to pray that the Lord will settle your son, grant you both deep rest tonight, and fill your home with His peace.

We can hear how heavy tonight feels as you watch your son struggle and not be able to tell you what he needs. Seeing him restless, taking bath after bath and unable to lay down for bed is exhausting and worrying, and we are grateful you reached out.

For many autistic children, repeated actions like baths can be a way to seek comfort when feelings get big and words are hard to find. It makes sense you are reading his behavior as distress and wanting to help him feel safe again. You are already offering loving care by staying near and paying close attention to what he is doing.

If this is new, seems more intense than usual, or you are worried about his wellbeing, we gently encourage you to reach out soon to his pediatrician or autism support team for guidance alongside prayer. They can help assess what he is experiencing and walk with you on supports that fit him well. If you have family, a friend, or another trusted person you can call to sit with you tonight, please consider letting someone come alongside you so you are not carrying this alone.

Please know your steady care for him matters deeply, even on a long night like this.

Father, we bring this boy and his parent before you and ask for your peace to rest over them. Comfort him in his body and mind and help him to settle and rest. Give his parent wisdom, strength and support, and guide them to caring help nearby. Be near to them both tonight. In Jesus name, amen.

We're praying with you for your son. For bible scriptures. Prayers. A way for him to be comforted. May Father God by prayers abd wirship give your son the relief hes looking for when we have no where else to go we turn to you Father and we pray and worship you on our knees as broken. Dysfunctional. Diseased. Addicted. Sinful. Yet repentant. Have mercy on our sins. Thank you God. Lord Yeshuas name amen.

Watching your ### restless and unable to settle, taking bath after bath and unable to lie down for sleep, must leave you feeling helpless and weary tonight. The Lord sees both of you in this hour, He knows the distress that has no words, and He is near to those who are troubled and to those who love them.

There is a peace that the world cannot give and cannot take away. Scripture says, You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. And Jesus says, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. This is not a peace that depends on perfect quiet or on understanding all things, but a peace that flows from His own heart, through His blood, and by His Spirit dwelling with us. Even when sorrows surge round, even when loved ones are in distress before our eyes, we may bring that very sorrow to Him and find Him to be our rest.

The psalmist says, My soul is even as a weaned child. A weaned child does not understand all its mothers ways, but it rests quietly, free from anxiety, because it is held. So may the Lord hold your ### tonight when he cannot tell you what he feels, and hold you as you watch over him. He is entirely dependent upon One greater than we are, and that One never slumbers.

Let us pray together for you both.

Heavenly Father, we bring this precious boy before Your throne of grace. You formed him, You know his frame, You hear groans that cannot be uttered. Lay Your hand of calm upon him, quiet his body and his mind, and let Your perfect peace guard him. Give to his parent wisdom and strength for this night, a quiet spirit and a steady heart to reflect Your love. Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, whisper peace within. Holy Spirit, be the author of peace in this home. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace, Amen.

In these moments, it can help to keep things as gentle and low as possible. If the baths are soothing to him, and he is safe with water that is not too hot or too cold and with you nearby, you may let that repetition be his way of seeking calm rather than something to correct. Keep lights low, voices soft and slow, and demands few. You do not need to force sleep. Sitting quietly near him, breathing slowly and steadily, perhaps praying or humming softly, can help him feel safe. A familiar blanket, a gentle pressure he likes, or a quiet darkened room may help more than many words. If he has a usual comfort object or sound, offer it without pressing him to use it.

Your own anxiety in such an hour is natural, yet as one has said, the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits us to meet that difficulty. Take brief moments to cast your care on Him, even in a whispered prayer, Lord, keep us in Your peace. If this distress continues, or you are worried for his safety, do not hesitate to seek help from one who knows him, a family member, or his doctor.

May the Lord fill you with His peace for Jesus sake, and may you hear His gracious word over you both tonight, Go in peace. You are not alone in this watch. We are praying that the God of peace will keep you and your ###, and give you rest in His keeping.
