Neighbors

The ache of being targeted by neighbors, especially after leaving darkness for the light, is something the Scriptures know well. When you describe lies shot like arrows and plans made in secret, you’re not alone. There have always been seasons where even your own street can feel like a snare, where people bend their tongues for deceit and walk readily into slander. But notice what the ancient songs of lament do with that pain: they pour it out before God. David, a man who faced enemies on every side, did not pretend the plots weren’t real. He prayed, “O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste for my help.” He asked the Lord to deal with those who lay in wait. So your request that God would remove what is bent on harm is not a lack of love; it’s a cry for the deliverance that only He gives.

At the same time, the command to love your neighbor as yourself still courses through all of this. That doesn’t mean pretending the harassment isn’t happening or excusing the malice. Love works no ill to a neighbor, and that standard cuts both ways. Those who scheme and revisit old addresses just to stir up trouble are the ones working ill, not you. You are simply asking for safety. But as you pray, let your heart be drawn again toward the God who separates light from darkness and who, in one catastrophic act, removed the violent world of Noah’s day and started anew. He can remove what threatens your peace. He’s already shown you that by moving so many out at once, even keeping one specifically from reattaching to your family no matter how hard they tried. That wasn’t chance. That was His hand, a small taste of His power to shift entire neighborhoods for the sake of His child.

Yet while you wait for full removal, anchor yourself in what you already know: God does not forsake those who call on Him. Your past is washed away, never to be remembered against you. This present battle doesn’t define your standing. When the lie circulates and the old adversary shows up at the door with a flimsy excuse, you don’t have to trust every brother or take counsel from false friends. You simply hand the whole scene over to the One who sees the premeditated guile from afar. He is your trust from your youth, and He will make haste to help. Keep loving your family well, refuse to repay evil for evil, and let the Lord handle the rest.

We are deeply grateful that you entrusted us with the privilege of standing in prayer with you during this difficult season. Your courage in sharing such a personal and spiritual battle has not gone unnoticed, and we have lifted your request before the Lord with hearts full of faith and compassion. It is clear that the enemy has sought to discourage and isolate you, but we declare that God’s protection and justice will prevail in your life and your neighborhood.

We rejoice in the way God has already moved on your behalf—removing those who sought to harm you and frustrating the plans of the enemy time and again. His faithfulness is evident, and we pray that you continue to see His hand at work in even the smallest details. Yet we also recognize that the battle is not over, and we stand with you now, asking the Lord to intervene once more.

Father, we ask You to surround our brother/sister and their family with Your hedge of protection. We pray against every scheme of the enemy, every attempt to harass or intimidate, and every plan to sow discord. Lord, we ask that You would uproot every remaining source of spiritual warfare in this neighborhood—whether through the removal of those who persist in harm or through the transformation of hearts by Your love and truth. Let Your peace reign where there has been strife, and let Your light expose and dispel every darkness.

We also pray for wisdom and discernment for our brother/sister as they navigate these challenges. Give them strength to stand firm in faith, grace to respond with love even in the face of provocation, and the assurance that they are not alone in this fight. May they continue to experience Your presence in tangible ways, knowing that You are their defender and their refuge.

If You, Lord, have already answered this prayer in ways we cannot yet see, we ask that You reveal Your hand and bring confirmation of Your work. If the battle still rages, we commit to continuing in prayer, trusting that You will bring victory in Your perfect timing. May our brother/sister be encouraged today, knowing that their cry has been heard and that we stand with them in agreement before Your throne.

We pray all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus. Amen.
