We hear the weight and distress in this request and we join together to bring it before the Lord. The burden of gossip, slander, idleness that turns into meddling, financial pressure with extra bills and delays, and even hospitalization and prolonged suffering is heavy, and we do not take lightly how this has affected peace, reputation, and daily life.

Scripture speaks clearly about these matters. The Lord warns against a gossiping and slandering tongue, for Proverbs 16:28 says a perverse man stirs up strife and a whisperer separates close friends, and Proverbs 20:19 says he who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets, therefore do not keep company with him who opens wide his lips. Leviticus 19:16 says you shall not go around as a slanderer among your people. Gossip destroys reputation, creates discord and confusion, and is listed among the works of the flesh. As was quoted, Galatians 5:20-21 lists idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, factions, envy and things like these, and warns that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Titus 3:3 reminds us at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another, but God in mercy calls us out of that way into a new life.

The Lord also addresses idleness and meddling. 2 Thessalonians 3:11 says for we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who do not work at all, but are busybodies. 1 Timothy 5:13 warns about learning to be idle, going about from house to house, not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not. 1 Peter 4:15 says for let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or a meddler in other men's matters. And sorcery, divination, and all counterfeit spiritual power are forbidden by God, Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says there shall not be found with you anyone who practices divination or sorcery, for whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. We are not to repay evil for evil or return mocking and voyeurism with hatred, but to walk in holiness and diligence. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 says that you aspire to lead a quiet life, to do your own business, and to work with your hands, and Colossians 3:23 says whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men.

We rebuke together the spirit of gossip, slander, strife, envy, idleness, meddling, sorcery and every demonic influence that seeks to bring disorder, delay, distraction, financial sabotage, and destruction of reputation. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood alone, for Ephesians 6:12 says our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, and we stand in the authority of Jesus Christ to resist those works. We also rebuke the desire for vengeance or wishing death and disgrace upon another, for Romans 12:19 says do not seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord, and Romans 12:21 says do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. You are right to say we are not God, we are not called to defend or avenge in our own strength, the Lord is our defender and judge, and He sees every spying, every false picture, every distribution of wrong information, and every act of corruption.

We notice this request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we must speak plainly about this because it is only by His name that we have access to God and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we have not yet put our trust in Jesus, we turn from sin and believe that He died for our sins and rose again, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we pray and in His name we have peace with God.

We pray together now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace. We ask You to rebuke every work of gossip, slander, lying, mockery, voyeurism, sorcery and idleness that has brought confusion, conflict, financial loss, delay and disorder. We ask You to silence the whispering tongue and to protect reputation, for Proverbs 26:20 says where there is no wood, the fire goes out, where there is no whisperer, strife ceases. Lord, heal those who have suffered hospitalization and prolonged misery, restore health and strength, and provide for every extra bill and need according to Your riches, for Philippians 4:19 says my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Give honest work and diligence where there has been unemployment and sabotage, and let peace and order be restored in the neighborhood and in every delivery and daily matter. Convict the neighbor who gossips and meddles, bring repentance and turn that idle time into honest labor and respect for others, for Ephesians 4:29 says let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Help us to love our enemies as You commanded in Matthew 5:44, to bless those who curse us, do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who mistreat us, guarding our own hearts from bitterness and anxiety, for 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. We place vengeance and justice in Your hands and ask for Your protection, Your truth to prevail over every false report, and Your peace to guard our hearts. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to set godly boundaries, document wrongdoing calmly if needed for proper authorities, avoid returning gossip for gossip, and commit the matter to the Lord in persistent prayer. Speak truth in love, let your speech be gracious and seasoned, work faithfully as unto the Lord, and trust that God who sees in secret will vindicate and provide. We join you in asking the Lord to replace ruin and misery with restoration, to heal what has been broken, and to let His order and mercy reign where there has been disaster and discord.

We want to gently encourage you to rest in the truth that you do not have to sort or carry all of this alone, and you are not responsible to fix what others are doing. God sees you and He is your steady protector even when people around you act in hurtful or confusing ways.

Limiting unnecessary interaction, keeping a simple private note of any real incidents if needed, and seeking wise counsel from a trusted pastor or mature believer in your own church can bring perspective and keep things from escalating. If anxiety or sleep or health strain are weighing on you, it is also good to let your doctor or a counselor know, so you have support for your body as well as prayer for your spirit.

There is a great heaviness in your words, and your cry concerning gossip, strife, idleness, and the sorrows that have come upon your house through hospitalization and want has been heard and carried to the throne of grace.

You have well named the evils that beset you, for the Scripture you have quoted is true. Idolatry, sorcery, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings and such like are works of the flesh, and they that do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God, as it is written in Galatians 5:20 and 21. And it is also true, as you have said from Titus 3:3, that we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. This should teach us both to hate the sin and to pity the sinner, and to pray for mercy for those who are yet held in it.

Concerning your neighbor, it is an evil of no small kind when professors or idle persons spend far too much time in one another's houses, wasting precious hours in idle gossip and chatter. Such prying and tale bearing, the distributing of false information, the mocking pictures and the sowing of discord, are destructive to reputation and to peace. They gender confusion and fighting and meddling, and they provoke a war of distraction and disorder. We will pray with you that the Lord will rebuke this spirit of gossip and slothfulness, of envy and sorcery and division, and that He will bring it to nought.

And concerning your own soul under this trial, hear the word of our Saviour who says, Do not be so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry, fretfulness, care, anxiety and distress. Be prudent in your temporal affairs, but do not be anxious about them. I have never discovered that anxiety has comforted anybody, or that it has brought any grist to the mill, or any meal to the barrel. If a thing does not pay, what is the good of it. Moreover, the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. Your bills and invoices, your delays and missing things, your fear of ruin and even of the cemetery, these are heavy indeed, but anxiety will not lighten them. Childlike trust in providential guidance will.

He who travels on the King's Highway is under the King's protection, but he who takes to byroads must protect himself. Abide then in the appointed ways of truth, of honest labor, of quietness and of prayer, and you may expect divine keeping. This protection is perpetual as well as personal, for God has charged His angels to keep His people in all their ways. Grapple the truths of God to you as with hooks of steel, wait upon the Lord to know what you shall do, and dare not lean upon your own understanding.

Do not think it strange if slander is the rod under which you smart. Many have felt it before you. If the devil throws you down and tears you as you come to Christ, tell him it is written, He is able to save to the uttermost all who come unto God by Him, and whosoever cometh He will in no wise cast out. There is a conflict within every renewed man between the flesh and the Spirit, and these two must fight till our dying day. Do not therefore give way to presumption or to despair, but let the Lord appoint you care or calumny, sickness or slander, for He knows best.

We do not pray that God would bless gossip or idleness or sorcery, for He cannot bless what He condemns. We pray that He would rebuke and restrain it, that He would turn the hearts of those who practice it to repentance through faith in Jesus Christ alone, who is the only way of salvation, and that He would grant you deliverance from their snare.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this tried one who is compassed about with gossip and confusion, with financial burden and bodily affliction. Rebuke, we beseech Thee, the spirit of strife, of envy, of tale bearing and of every work of the flesh that brings disorder. Forgive those who trespass against this household, and if it be Thy will, bring them to see their sin and to seek Christ. Deliver Thy servant from anxiety which unfits for duty, and give instead a quiet trust in Thy providence. Provide for every temporal need according to Thy wisdom, heal and sustain in hospitalization and weakness, guard reputation and home from the destroyer, and keep this soul in the King's Highway where angelic protection is afforded.
