In Galatians 5 the works of the flesh include idolatry and sorcery, hatred, strife and jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions and factions, envy and similar things, and those who live in them will not inherit the kingdom of God. Titus 3 reminds us that we ourselves once lived in foolishness and disobedience, enslaved to passions, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another, and it is only by God's mercy in Christ that we are changed. When a tongue is given to slander, a hypocrite destroys his neighbor with his mouth. A gossip goes about revealing secrets, while a faithful person knows how to keep a matter quiet. Scripture also links idleness with this kind of harm. The lazy person wastes what he has and has little of value, while the diligent person has substance that is precious, and when people have nothing useful to do they often turn to meddling, watching the house of another, spreading pictures and words that create discord and tear down reputations.
God has summed up how we are to live with one another in a simple command that fulfills the whole law toward our fellow man. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no harm to a neighbor, and so love is the fulfilling of the law. That does not mean we approve what is wrong or pretend that gossip and sorcery and deceit are harmless. It means we refuse to do to others what we would not want done to us. We do not lie about them, steal from them, or seek to use them for advantage through false information, wrong lists, or corrupt dealings. If we love our neighbor as we love ourselves, we want for him food and shelter and peace as we want for ourselves, and we certainly do not work to provoke a war of distraction and mockery.
You are right to say we are not God. We are not called to be the judge or the protector in God's place, and we are not obligated to carry anxiety that belongs to the Lord. The Lord sees when neighbors speak peaceably with the mouth while lying in wait in the heart, when they deceive and teach their tongues to speak lies until they weary themselves with doing wrong. He has said He will visit such things and avenge what is done against His moral order. Our part is to walk in truth, to guard our own lips, to refuse to repay evil for evil, and to trust Him to act justly.

Silence the tale bearing and the spying, and stop the distribution of false words and disrespectful images meant to bully and destroy reputation. Bring conviction where there is sin and bring repentance. Lord, we ask for Your protection over this home and family, for provision in unemployment, for mercy in the hospital bills and financial pressure that feels like it could lead to ruin, and for wisdom in every practical matter that has been made chaotic by delay and disorder. Guard hearts from bitterness and from the temptation to hate as we have been hated. Teach us to love You supremely and to love our neighbor as ourselves, to do no ill, to seek peace where possible, to set wise boundaries, and to leave vengeance in Your hands. Renew us by Your grace so that we do not live as we once did in malice and envy, but walk in diligence, truth and mercy. We ask for quietness in the neighborhood, for truth to replace lies, and for Your peace to guard this household. In Jesus name, amen.
Continue to seek the Lord daily, keep your speech truthful and gracious, avoid returning gossip for gossip, and seek wise and lawful help for the financial and medical burdens. If harassment continues, seek appropriate and lawful protection while keeping your own conduct above reproach. The Lord knows your need and He is faithful to provide and to judge righteously.
