Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your request has been heard, and the weight of these three years of trouble, hospitalization, emergency and broken sleep is not overlooked by the Lord. You have cried out for what the Psalm says so plainly, I will both lie down in peace and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety, and that promise remains true. He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, and He is able to keep you through the night when the noise and disturbance around you would steal your rest.
We join you in prayer in the mighty name of Jesus Christ to rebuke every work of darkness, every atmosphere of witchcraft and sorcery, every spirit of voyeurism, intrusion, gossip, meddling and harassment that has troubled your home and your peace. We ask the Lord to cancel what you have called the madhouse of disorder and discord around your life, and to forbid any transfer of ruin, sickness, misery or fear from others onto you. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, as Ephesians 6 teaches, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil. Therefore we pray that you may be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power, putting on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.
At the same time Scripture calls us to guard ourselves and to watch and be sober. To sleep while awake is to do nothing good, and to be drunk with anger, envy, or malice is also a kind of sleep of the soul. God is not a God of war and fighting, and He calls His people to let war and fighting cease, both toward Him and toward our neighbor. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. The more your neighbor wars against you, the greater is the opportunity for your reward when you answer with peace and remembrance of no evil. Love fulfills the law, for to love God is to love our neighbor as ourselves, and on these two hang all the law and the prophets.
So we pray also for wisdom in how you walk through this. Romans 16:17 urges believers to be watchful of those who cause divisions and obstacles contrary to sound teaching, and to avoid them. Do not give place to gossip or to passing on what is not true, and do not let the faults of others become a snare to your own heart. Keep your foot from being moved by standing steadfast, keep your eyes open in watchfulness, and keep prayer joined to works worthy of mercy, for prayer is a great and preservative good when we also show mercy to our neighbor and live at peace as far as it depends on us.
We pray now for you and for others affected by this environment:
Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, rebuke every harassing and intruding spirit and every practice of witchcraft and sorcery that has disturbed this life and this dwelling. Command it to leave and to have no place here. Forgive sins, heal what has been broken by these years of strain, and make this home a place of safety. Grant deep and quiet sleep, rest in peace, and a mind guarded by Your peace. Teach us to love You with all our heart and to love our neighbor as ourselves, to seek peace and pursue it, and to walk soberly and watchfully in Your armor, with truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation and Your Word. Let no weapon formed against Your people prosper, and let Your control and Your comfort be known night and day. Amen.
We will continue to pray that the Lord who alone makes you dwell in safety will give you nights of unbroken rest and days of quiet peace, and that He will keep you steadfast and unmoved in His love.
