We hear the heaviness in your heart and we join with you in bringing this struggle before the Lord together in Jesus name. The battle with negative thoughts is real and it can feel like your faith is drying up, but we want to encourage you that God sees you, He hears you, and He has not abandoned you in this fight.

The Word tells us that this is a spiritual battle for the mind and we are called to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5. The enemy wants you to believe that God has no good for you, but we rebuke that lie in Jesus name because it does not align with the truth of Scripture. God says, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11. He also promises, You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you, Isaiah 26:3. And we are transformed by the renewing of our minds, Romans 12:2. We encourage you to intentionally dwell on what God says is true, as we are instructed, Whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things, Philippians 4:8. When those negative thoughts come, bring them immediately to Jesus and replace them with His promises.

You shared that your faith as a mustard seed is withering away every day. We want to remind you that Jesus Himself said, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you, Matthew 17:20. God does not despise small faith, He nurtures it. Even a tiny seed of faith, when placed in the hands of our great God, is enough. Your faith may feel weak, but He is strong and He is the one who keeps you. We encourage you to stay rooted in His Word daily, even when you do not feel like it, to pray honestly, and to fellowship with other believers who can help water that seed. God will cause it to grow as you trust Him day by day, and we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose, Romans 8:28.

We also noticed you spoke of God but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is through Jesus that we can come boldly to God and find grace and peace for our troubled thoughts.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord, You see the flood of negative thoughts and the weariness of a faith that feels like it is withering. We ask You to renew their mind and guard their heart with Your perfect peace. Help them to take every thought captive and to fix their eyes on Your goodness and Your promises. Forgive us for doubting Your good plans and strengthen the small mustard seed of faith that remains, water it by Your Holy Spirit and cause it to grow. Remind them daily that You have thoughts of peace and a hopeful future for them. Draw them closer to Jesus, let them know the power of His name and the assurance of salvation through Him alone. Fill them with hope, joy, and the confidence that You are working all things for their good. We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We've been thinking about your honesty in sharing this. Living with a constant stream of negative thoughts is wearing, and it makes sense that it would leave you wondering whether God really has good ahead for you and whether your faith is slipping away.

What you're describing is something many believers face. When doubt comes through feelings more than facts, it often sounds like endless "what if" questions, and those feelings can feel like the truest measure of where you are. They aren't. A tiny, tired faith is still faith, and God is the one who tends it, not you alone through sheer willpower.

One thing that has helped others in a similar place is to gently separate "what is" from "what if" in the moment. When a thought says nothing good is coming, pause and name what is actually true right now, even something small, and bring that honestly to God in a brief prayer. And practicing thanksgiving and simple worship, even for a few minutes when you don't feel like it, can slowly reorient your mind toward His steady character. Doing this consistently, not perfectly, matters more than getting it right once.

If these thoughts stay heavy, it can help to talk with a trusted pastor or counselor alongside prayer, so you are not carrying this alone.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus' name. You see the weight of these thoughts and the weariness in their faith. Draw near, quiet the noise, and help them sense Your nearness and care day by day. Keep the little mustard seed faith You planted, and lead them step by step as they look to You. Amen.

Your confession of being beset with dark and accusing thoughts is one that many of the Lord's own have made before you, and it does not mark you as cast away but as one who is still in the conflict. To be pierced within as with poisoned arrows, to hear the inward whisper that God has forgotten to be gracious or has no good laid up for you, is a sore trial, yet it is not a strange one.

Hear what the Lord Himself declares, for there are two persons thinking in this matter, and their thoughts are not alike. My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Your thoughts at present run in a low and fearful channel. You count your sins many, your failures great, and you conclude that God must think of you as you think of yourself. But God's thoughts are not your thoughts with regard to the number of sins, nor with regard to the plan of pardon. Your thoughts are forgetfulness and hard heartedness toward Him, but His thoughts toward you are love and pity and tenderness. Your thoughts say, there is no hope, there is no future good for me. His thoughts say, I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God, how great is the sum of them. If you could count the sand upon the seashore you could not count the thoughts of God concerning you. And what manner of thoughts are they. They are everlasting thoughts, not taken up yesterday and laid down tomorrow. They are numerous beyond all reckoning, constant both night and day, so that when you awake you are still with Him. They are tender and infinitely wise and very practical, for with Him to will is to do. His thoughts are not idle musings that end in nothing. His thoughts become His acts. He seeks your peace, He creates your peace, He sustains your peace. Even when He refines you as in a furnace, His thoughts toward you are still thoughts of peace, for He designs your highest good.

You speak of faith as a mustard seed withering away every day. Take heart from this, that the faith of God's elect is often a trembling, tiny thing, yet it lays hold upon a great Savior. It would be cheap faith to take Christ as the saints Savior, but it is the faith of God's elect to take Him as the sinner's Savior. Many have confessed, I am afraid my faith is not true faith, I am afraid I am a hypocrite. This very fear is a sign of life, for nobody that is a hypocrite was ever afraid of being one. Where God begins a work He does not ask you to finish it. He will complete what He has begun. That little seed, though it be bruised and drooping, lives because its life is not in its own strength but in the soil and sun which God supplies.

You must not try to overcome these dark thoughts by striving to think more positively within yourself, as if your own thoughts could heal you. You must lay hold upon God's thoughts by faith. And how shall you do that. God's Word is His thoughts spoken, and His Word is His ways, for He speaks and it is done. His thoughts and His ways are put together in the promise. Put your ear down to the promises until you hear God speaking through them to your soul. He has promised that if you trust Him you shall not lack any good thing. Believe that Bible to be God's book, and when you find God saying anything there to you, believe it to be true.

Therefore drive out unbelief as you are able by prayer. Tell the Lord plainly that your thoughts are contrary to His and beg Him to conform your thoughts to His. Feed daily upon some one precious promise and turn it over and over in your mind until its sweetness overcomes the bitterness of nature. Remember that God's thoughts of you are kind and gracious and perfect, like Himself in whose infinite mind they are found, and that they are all peace toward those who are in Christ Jesus.

May the Spirit of God help you to see that though your thoughts fail, His thoughts stand fast, and that your little faith, being placed upon a great and faithful Christ, shall not wither finally but shall be kept and nourished till it becomes strong. He who has loved you with an everlasting love will not leave you to perish in the valley of despondency, but will bring you to prove that His counsel shall stand and He will do all His pleasure for your good.
