Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this need and allowing us to pray with you for the soreness and pain in your right side around your ribs and lung. We bring your physical need before the Lord because He cares about the body He created and He is compassionate toward those who suffer.
In the Gospels a large part of what Jesus did was to touch and heal those who were sick and afflicted. He never used His miraculous power to meet His own physical needs, but He freely used it to meet the needs of others. He healed the leper, the servant of the centurion, Peter's mother in law, and multitudes who were brought to Him in the evening. Matthew tells us this was to fulfill what Isaiah wrote, that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. Isaiah 53 speaks of Him bearing our griefs and sorrows, and Matthew by the Spirit applies that to physical healing as well as to our spiritual healing from sin. When Jesus broke the bread and said this is my body which is broken for you, He was showing that His suffering covers the whole person.
We believe God still heals today and that He is still concerned with our physical needs. There is no scriptural reason to think He has stopped touching bodies. At the same time much about healing remains beyond our understanding. Scripture records only one gradual healing in the ministry of Jesus, yet we know many healings happen gradually. Any true healing process is from God, for He created our bodies with processes to restore and repair, and that natural process is no less divine because He is the one who made nature. He also heals on other levels, bringing peace to the mind and heart and mending inward wounds, even as He touches the body.
We also recognize we cannot presume to know exactly how God will work in every case. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh and the Lord chose not to remove it but to answer in another way. Not every person has the gifts of healing, for the body has many members with different gifts, and the answer of no to that question in Scripture reminds us that God works sovereignly as He wills. We do not understand why some are healed instantly and others gradually and others are sustained through ongoing weakness, but we trust His wisdom and love.
There is also a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. John wrote his wish for Gaius that he would prosper and be in health even as his soul prospers. That was a loving wish, not a blanket promise that guarantees healing on demand, but it does show the relationship God has placed between inner peace and physical well being. Proverbs says a joyful heart is good like a medicine, and we are learning how true that is. When the heart rests in the Lord, the body often finds relief from added strain as well.
So we pray for you now in the name of Jesus, our healer. Yahweh Rapha, the Lord who heals, knows your pain and the difficulty of breathing and moving with soreness around your ribs. We ask Him to lay His hand upon that area, to ease the inflammation and soreness, to bring comfort with each breath, and to restore strength. If this is something that needs medical attention, we ask Him to guide you to good care and to work through the means He has provided, whether that relief comes instantly or gradually through the healing processes He placed in the body. We ask for His peace to guard your heart and mind, and for freedom from fear while you wait on Him. We know how a week of pain can feel endless, and how the groaning of the body makes us long for wholeness, and we ask the Lord to meet you with His presence and mercy in this very place.
Continue to seek Him and rest in His care, trusting that He who bore our sicknesses understands your suffering and will do what is best according to His perfect will. We are standing with you in prayer and asking the Lord to bring relief and renewed health.
