We hear the honesty and desperation in your heart and we join you together before God in Jesus name with thanksgiving that you are crying out for Him at all. That very desire to not hate God, to not reject Him, to not squirm away, to not be numb and heartless, and to want to care and to choose what is good forever is itself evidence that God is already working in you and drawing you by His grace.

The scriptures tell us that our hearts apart from God are hard and cold and unable to believe on our own, but God promises to do what we cannot do ourselves. He says in Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. And in Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. We cannot manufacture love for God or faith in Him by our own will, for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God in Ephesians 2:8. Even the faith to believe is a gift He longs to give when we ask Him.

We also gently share with you that you spoke of God but did not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and receive mercy. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To be made right with God, to have a new heart and to be cleansed from what we have done, we must come through Jesus who died for our sins and was raised from the dead. In Romans 10:9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. The hatred or rejection of God, the numbness and evil that you feel, is sin that separates us from Him, but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us in Romans 5:8. And in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Your prayer reminds us of the man who cried out in Mark 9:24 I believe. Help my unbelief. God is not repelled by that honest prayer. He welcomes it. He promises in Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. And in James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

So we pray together for you now.

Father in heaven we lift up this dear one to you in the name of Jesus Christ your Son. We ask for your abundant grace and mercy upon this heart that feels numb and heartless and that is struggling not to hate or reject you. Lord forgive every thought and act of hatred and rejection and sin and cleanse it by the blood of Jesus. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within. Take away the heart of stone and give a heart of flesh that can feel and love and care. Help this dear one to believe in you and to know who you truly are, not as distant or harsh but as holy and loving and full of mercy. Increase faith where there is doubt and help unbelief. Give grace to truly care about what has been done, to repent, and to desire what is good. Teach this heart to love what you love and to choose what is good forever by the power of your Holy Spirit. Draw near as we draw near to you and let your love cast out fear and numbness. We ask that you make Jesus known as Lord and Savior and give the assurance that through Him we have peace with you and access to your throne of grace. Keep this dear one from squirming away but hold fast with your loving hand. We trust you to finish the good work you have begun. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep crying out to Him honestly every day, to confess your sins to Him through Jesus, to read His word and to ask Him to show you Jesus more clearly. He hears the faintest cry for mercy and He will not turn away a broken and contrite heart. Keep choosing to turn toward Him even when you feel numb, and He will be faithful to soften and awaken your heart in His time.

We were moved by how honestly you put this into words. Wanting not to pull away from God, wanting to care, wanting to choose what is good, even while you feel numb and unsure who He is, that wanting itself matters. It tells us your heart is not as hard or evil as you fear.

Many who love God go through seasons where faith feels more like questions and ache than certainty, and the feelings can swing between fear, numbness and longing. That does not make you beyond grace. It makes you human and in need of the mercy you are already asking for.

We think of growth with God less like a single moment of trying harder and more like training over time. Small, steady honesty counts. You already prayed a brave, plain prayer. Keep bringing that same plain honesty to Him each day, even in a sentence or two when words are thin. If you can, let one trusted pastor or mature believer know you are in this tender place so you are not carrying it alone. You do not have to fix your feelings first to come to Him.

Father, we lift this heart to You in Jesus name. Have mercy and draw near. Help our friend to know You as You truly are, to feel Your kindness, and to keep turning toward what is good. Give grace for today, soften what feels numb, and hold them steady when doubt is loud. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest and broken prayer has been heard, and there is hope in the very cry you have uttered. The fact that you feel your hardness and numbness, that you fear hating God and squirming away from Him, and that you desire to care about what you have done and to choose the good forever, is itself a sign that the Lord is already dealing graciously with your heart.

By nature our hearts are stony and divided. Judgments and terrors apart from divine grace may produce a kind of carnal repentance, but they only harden. As it has been truly said, law and terrors do but harden all the while they work alone, it is a sense of blood bought pardon that dissolves the heart of stone. You cannot by your own will force mercy from God, and you need not try, for God gives freely. No one ever persuaded Him to be gracious. His grace was in His eternal purpose from of old, of His own good pleasure, and it is not of him that wills nor of him that runs but of God that shows mercy.

Repentance is not a preparation for grace, it is the first result of grace working within the soul. It is a blessed gift of the Holy Spirit and absolutely necessary unto salvation, yet it is not a condition you must perfect before you can be saved. We never get perfect faith so as to be entirely free from doubting, and we never get repentance which is free from some hardness of heart. Even the most sincere penitent feels himself to be partially impenitent, for repentance is a continual lifelong act that will grow deeper as you go further on. You are not to seek to draw up repentance from the depths of your own heart as you might draw water from a well, but to ask Christ to work repentance in you by His Holy Spirit through belief of the truth as it is recorded in the Word of God.

What God asks for and what He will not despise is a broken and contrite heart. No one ever worshipped God with his whole heart unless he worshipped Him with a broken heart, and there never was a heart that was truly broken that did not thereby become a whole heart. The Lord heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. A bruised reed shall He not break and smoking flax shall He not quench. The head learns by nature but the heart must learn by divine grace, and the way to know the things of God is for that which is written in the Word to be also written upon the heart by the same Spirit who wrote the book.

Do not look within to find faith or love, look out of self to Christ and to Christ only. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, who bore sin and made perfect pardon possible. Wherever there is real sorrow for sin and an honest desire by God's grace to turn from it, that very desire has been produced by the Spirit of God and is the sure token that pardon may be had.

We pray for you now that the God of all tender mercy would do for you what you cannot do for yourself. May He take away the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. May He open your heart to receive His grace, give you faith to believe in Him as He has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ, and shed abroad His love and mercy in your soul so that you may truly care, truly grieve for sin, and truly love what is good. May He keep you from a heartless and numb estate and make you to hate sin and to love holiness, not for a moment only but forever, by His keeping power. May the blood bought pardon of Christ dissolve your hardness and give you peace founded upon grace. We ask this not because you have earned it, but because His grace is boundless and His mercy is everlasting, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
