need help

Your prayer shows a sincere longing for the complete victory that belongs to Jesus Christ, and it is right to bring that desire to Him. The Bible teaches that there is a real spiritual battle going on around us that we often do not see or fully understand. Scripture gives a picture of this when an angel sent to answer Daniel was hindered for twenty one days by spiritual powers over Persia until help came. That account reminds us that delays, heaviness, and opposition can be part of a larger conflict between the Spirit of God and the forces of darkness that seek to influence and control the minds and lives of people.

It is important to understand who the enemy is. Satan is not the opposite of God. He is a created being who fell through pride and became the adversary, which is what his name means. God is self existent and sovereign over all, while Satan is limited and can only act within the boundaries God allows. We see this in the account of Job, where Satan had to present himself before the Lord and could not touch Job beyond what the Lord permitted, and in the temptation of Jesus, where Satan claimed authority over the kingdoms of this world because humanity had yielded that authority to him, yet Jesus did not dispute the claim but overcame him through obedience and the cross. Satan tried to keep Jesus from the cross because he knew the cross would be his defeat. Jesus said He saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven, and at the cross He broke Satan's power. The final removal of Satan to the place prepared for him and his angels is still to come, when he will be confined and ultimately judged, but his present defeat is already accomplished.

Satan's main battlefield is the mind. From the beginning he has worked by casting doubt on what God has said, suggesting that God is not good or that He does not see. He also works through condemnation, telling you that you should give up and that there is no hope, in order to drive you away from Jesus and away from forgiveness and cleansing. When you feel that kind of accusation and confusion, it is often the pressure of this spiritual conflict.

For this kind of warfare God has provided spiritual weapons, because the battle cannot be won with human effort or physical means. The Scripture calls you to recognize when an attack is from the enemy, to resist the devil in the name of Jesus, and to rejoice in the victory Jesus has already won. James says to submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Paul describes putting on the armor of God, which includes truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer. These are the means by which you stand in what Christ has done.

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, and through His death and resurrection He led captivity captive and made a way for you to live free from the dominion of darkness. That freedom is lived out as you walk daily with Him, bringing your thoughts into obedience to Christ, confessing sin quickly, filling your mind with Scripture, and praying in His name. You do not need to live under fear that Satan controls your past, present, or future, because Christ holds your life and no influence can separate you from Him when you abide in Him. At the same time, the complete and final silencing and binding of Satan for all time is something God will accomplish fully at the end of this age, and until then we are called to watch, to pray, and to stand firm in faith.

May the Lord give you peace as you trust in His power rather than your own. May He guard your mind, cleanse your conscience through the blood of Jesus, and fill you with confidence that you belong to Him. As you submit to God and resist the enemy in the name of Jesus, may you experience the reality that the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world, and may you rejoice each day in the victory that Jesus has already secured for you. In Jesus name, amen.
