Need help to quit smoking

We hear your cry for help and stand with you in this battle against addiction. The struggle to break free from smoking is real, and we acknowledge that you cannot do this in your own strength. The Word of God reminds us in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." It is only through His power that true freedom is found.

First, we must address the root of this struggle. Smoking is not just a physical habit, it is a spiritual stronghold. The enemy seeks to bind us in chains of addiction, but Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18). We rebuke the spirit of addiction in your life in the name of Jesus. We declare that you are no longer a slave to nicotine, but a child of the Most High God, called to walk in holiness and self-control.

The cravings you feel are real, but they do not have to control you. 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." God provides a way out, lean on Him in those moments of weakness. When the craving comes, pray immediately. Call on the name of Jesus and ask Him to fill you with His strength. Replace the habit with Scripture, speak God’s Word aloud, for it is living and active (Hebrews 4:12).

We also encourage you to take practical steps. Remove all smoking paraphernalia from your home, car, and workplace. Avoid situations where you are tempted to smoke. Surround yourself with believers who will pray for you and hold you accountable. James 5:16 tells us, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is struggling to break free from smoking. Lord, we thank You that You are a God who delivers and sets the captives free. We ask that You would break every chain of addiction in their life. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit and grant them the fruit of self-control. When the cravings come, Lord, remind them of Your promises and give them the strength to resist. Surround them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We declare that they are more than a conqueror through Him who loves them. Strengthen their resolve, Father, and let them walk in the freedom You have purchased for them on the cross. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Remember, victory is not found in your own willpower, but in surrendering to Christ. Every time you resist the urge to smoke, you are declaring that Jesus is Lord over your life. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). You are not alone in this fight, we stand with you, and more importantly, God is with you. Keep pressing into Him, and He will lead you into complete freedom.

We’re grateful you reached out, because quitting is not something you should have to do alone. You’re right to name it plainly: the cravings are real, and they can feel much stronger than your best intentions. Smoking is both a physical dependence and a set of deeply learned habits, so the struggle does not mean you are weak. It means you are up against something that usually needs both God’s help and practical support.

One concrete step we would encourage is to talk with your doctor or a local stop-smoking program this week. They can walk with you through options like nicotine patches or other supports that help take the sharp edge off cravings while you build new patterns. It can also help to keep a simple record of when the urge hits hardest and make a small plan for those moments, like stepping outside for fresh air, drinking cold water, or calling someone who will steady you.

If you slip, do not let that convince you to give up. Many people quit after several attempts, and each attempt teaches you something. You are not starting from zero again, because you already know you want freedom and you are asking for help.

Lord Jesus, we bring this person to You today. You know the pull of these cravings and the desire to be free. Please give strength for this hour, wisdom to reach for the right help, and grace to keep going even after a hard day. Surround them with steady people, and let them sense Your presence when the urge feels loud. We ask for growing freedom, one day at a time. In Jesus’ name, amen.

You cannot quit on your own; that confession is the beginning of wisdom. The man who thinks he can break the chain by a fresh resolution will find himself entangled again before the week is gone. But the man who says, "I cannot, Lord, help me," has placed his weakness where Divine strength can reach it. Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. The craving is real, the body cries out, the habit has made a deep furrow in the flesh; yet Christ is mightier than the deepest craving.

Do not wait until you feel strong, for you never will. Cry to Him in the very moment of the pang. When the desire rises, let it be a signal for prayer. If the craving returns sixty times in the hour, carry sixty brief petitions to the throne. You will find that prayer and the poison cannot long abide together in the same heart. And throw away the thing itself, and shun the places and companions that give the temptation its opportunity. Grace does not make provision for the flesh, and neither must you.

A bruised reed He will not break, and the smoking flax He will not quench. There is a little living fire in you or you would not be crying out at all. The Lord will not quench that faint spark. He will fan it into a flame. Bring that spark to Christ, not to the law. You are not saved or sanctified by your own grip upon your promise; you are saved and sanctified by His grip upon you. Look to Him as your familiar Friend, alive and near, and every glance of faith overcomes Him, as it were, and draws down grace for the present distress.

The same blood that cleanses you from the guilt of sin has power to cleanse your will from the love of it. Plead that blood over the craving. Plead His resurrection life. You cannot quit on your own, but you need not. Cast the whole weight of the quitting upon Him who is able to keep you from falling, and day by day He will give you victory. Let not one fall persuade you that you are cast away. If you have stumbled, rise again and come to Christ at once, for He has no extinguisher for the smoking flax. He will bring you through.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You are right to say you cannot do this on your own. No one wins the war against the flesh by his own strength alone. But do not let that throw you into despair. It is exactly at the point of weakness that God gives grace. The throne of grace is open to you now. If you approach in this time of need, you will receive mercy and help. Do not wait until the craving has already conquered you. When the desire first rises, call upon God at once with a short prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and help me now. That is approaching in due season.

There is a war inside you, and that is the hardest kind of war. The body is at variance with the soul, raising up desires and fighting against your will. This war can be quelled, but only by daily care and by help from above. You must do your own part too. Remove from your reach what feeds the craving. Flee the places and habits that light the flame. Fill your mind with heavenly things, not the things of this life. A worldly soul cannot hold the Spirit, so occupy your thoughts with prayer, Scripture, and good works, especially in the hours when you used to smoke.

Do not remain alone in this struggle. The prayers of the saints are a real help, but they profit those who are also alert. Ask the church to pray for you, and seek out one or two faithful members who will check on you. What you cannot do by yourself, you can do joined with the rest. The eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you. You need help, and God has given it through His body.

The Lord does not despise your struggle. He is not waiting to cast you away because you have fallen. He says, come boldly, and find grace to help in time of need. Come now, before the habit tightens again. May the Lord give you strength this day, and may your body be brought into peace with your soul.
