We join together in fervent prayer for our national and world leaders, as the Scriptures urge us in First Timothy 2:1-2, "I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."
Firstly, we thank God for placing these leaders and authorities in our lives, as directed in Romans 13:1-2, "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves."
We pray for intelligence, character, and protection over our President, Vice President, and all cabinet members. We ask that God would grant them wisdom and guidance, setting a guard over their mouths as Psalm 141:3 says, "Set a guard, Yahweh, over my mouth. Keep watch over the door of my lips." We pray that they would be given the tongue of the wise, as Proverbs 15:2 tells us, "The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish blurts out folly."
We pray that our leaders would be surrounded by godly counsel and that their leadership would promote unity and righteousness, with no bitterness or rivalry. May they "do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with [their] God," as instructed in Micah 6:8. We ask that God would give His angels charge over our leaders and world leaders abroad, as Psalm 91:10-12 assures us, "No evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands."
We agree in praying for godly unity among political parties, both national and international, that they would come to agree on important issues and work together for the good of all nations, as Psalm 133 reminds us, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!" We pray against any plans of the enemy to divide or destroy and ask for angelic protection and heavenly intelligence for our leaders, as seen in Psalm 91 and 2 Kings 6:12.
May we be the people of God who are called by His name and humble ourselves to pray and seek His face, as 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
We pray for wisdom in our worldly leaders and protection for Christian leaders and civilians worldwide. We pray for the eradication of evil in elections, as Isaiah 33:15 encourages, "He who walks righteously, and speaks blamelessly; he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil." And we pray for the silencing of false prophets and news, as Titus 1:11 warns, "who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they ought not to teach, and that for the sake of dishonest gain."
Finally, we are so glad that this prayer is offered in the precious Name of Jesus Christ, for it is only by His Name we are saved. As mentioned in Acts 4:12, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" We claim all these promises in His Name.
