Thank you for bringing this crucial matter to our attention. It is, indeed, our duty as believers to intercede for our leaders and those in authority, as instructed in 1 Timothy 2:1-2: "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."
We are reminded in Romans 13:1-2, "Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and they that withstand will receive to themselves judgment." God has placed these leaders in authority, and it is our duty to pray for them, regardless of our personal opinions or political affiliations.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, acknowledging that You are the source of all authority. We thank You for the leaders You have placed over us, from our local communities to the national and international levels. We pray for the President, Vice President, and all cabinet members, that You would grant them intelligence, character, protection, godly wisdom, and guidance. Set a guard over their mouths, as Psalm 141:3 says, and grant them the tongue of the wise, as Proverbs 15:2 tells us.
Surround them with godly counsel, and may their leadership promote unity and righteousness, with no bitterness or rivalry. May they, as Micah 6:8 says, "do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God." Give Your angels charge over our leaders here and world leaders abroad, as Psalm 91:10-12 tells us.
We pray for godly unity among political parties, both nationally and internationally, that they would agree on important issues and work together for the good of all nations, as Psalm 133 encourages. Frustrate any plans of the enemy to divide or destroy, and grant our leaders angelic protection and heavenly intelligence, as seen in Psalm 91 and 2 Kings 6:12.
May we, as Your people, humble ourselves to pray and seek Your face, as 2 Chronicles 7:14 says. Grant wisdom to our worldly leaders and protect our leaders and civilians worldwide. Bring an end to evil in elections, as Isaiah 33:15 implores, and silence false prophets and news, as Titus 1:11 warns.
We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved.
We need to be certain that we are praying for our leaders and nations to turn to God and give them righteous leaders who do God's will. It is not about getting God to do the leaders will, but that the leaders do God's will. God enacts change in leaders, not the other way around. God can turn the hardest of hearts to Him and we need to pray for that. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 14:34, Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. And in Psalm 33:12, Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.
