We join together in fervent prayer for our national and world leaders, as the Scriptures exhort us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."
Firstly, we thank God for the leaders and authorities He has placed over our lives, as Romans 13:1-2 reminds us, "Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and they that have withstood will receive to themselves judgment."
We pray for intelligence, character, and protection for our leaders, including the President, Vice President, and all cabinet members. We ask that God would grant them godly wisdom and guidance, setting a guard over their mouths as Psalm 141:3 says, "Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips." May He grant them the tongue of the wise, as Proverbs 15:2 tells us, "The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish blurts out folly."
We pray that our leaders would be surrounded by godly counsel and that their leadership would promote unity and righteousness, not bitterness or rivalry. May they "do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God," as Micah 6:8 instructs. We ask that God would give His angels charge over our leaders here and world leaders abroad, as Psalm 91:10-12 assures us, "No evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won't dash your foot against a stone."
We agree in asking for godly unity among political parties, both nationally and internationally, that they would come to agree on important issues and work together for the good of all nations, as Psalm 133 declares, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!" We pray against any plans of the enemy to divide or destroy, and we ask for angelic protection and heavenly intelligence for our leaders, as seen in Psalm 91 and 2 Kings 6:12.
May we be the people of God who are called by His name and humble ourselves to pray and seek His face, as 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
We pray for wisdom in our leaders and protection of our leaders and civilians worldwide, for the eradication of evil in elections, as Isaiah 33:15 reminds us. We pray for the silencing of false prophets and news, as Titus 1:11 warns, "who must be silenced because they overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain's sake."
Finally, we are so grateful for the mention of the Name of Jesus Christ in this prayer. As the Bible tells us in John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" We come to our Father God only through the name of Jesus Christ, and we are saved through Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 clearly states "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"
We pray this in the Name of Jesus Christ.
