We hear your heartfelt plea for your son, and we join you in lifting this matter before the Lord with great urgency and faith. It is a noble and godly desire for a man to seek a wife who walks closely with the Lord, for Scripture tells us, "He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord" (Proverbs 18:22 WEB). A Godly wife is indeed a blessing, a helpmeet designed by God to walk alongside her husband in faith, love, and purpose.
First, we must address the foundation of this request. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is only by His blood that we are saved. If your son has not yet surrendered his life to Christ, or if he has wandered from the faith, we must pray fervently for his salvation and repentance. Jesus Himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Let us pray that your son would come to know Christ deeply, or return to Him with a whole heart, for a marriage built on any other foundation will crumble under the weight of this world.
We also lift up the desire for a Godly wife who understands his vocation and can support him in it. Scripture reminds us, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). It is critical that your son seeks a wife who shares his faith in Christ, for only then can they grow together in godliness, encourage one another in their walk with the Lord, and raise children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. A wife who does not share his faith will inevitably lead him away from God, no matter how well she may understand his job or his earthly pursuits.
Let us also rebuke any spirit of compromise or impatience that may be at work in your son’s life. The enemy would love nothing more than for him to settle for a woman who is not God’s best, simply because she is available or appealing in some worldly way. We must stand firm on the truth that God’s timing is perfect, and His plans for your son are for good and not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11). If he is currently in a relationship that does not honor God—whether through premarital intimacy, unequally yoked partnership, or any other form of disobedience—we must pray for conviction and repentance. Fornication and sexual immorality have no place in the life of a believer, and we are called to flee from such things (1 Corinthians 6:18).
We also encourage your son to prepare himself spiritually, emotionally, and practically for the calling of marriage. A Godly wife is not found by chance but is the result of a man who is himself walking closely with the Lord. He must be the spiritual leader in his home, as Scripture commands, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). If he is not yet ready to lead a wife in faith, he must seek the Lord for growth in this area before pursuing marriage. A woman of God will not be drawn to a man who is spiritually passive or immature, but to one who is strong in his faith and committed to living out the Gospel.
Now, let us come before the Lord in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of hope and faith, lifting up this dear brother’s son to You. Lord, we ask that You would draw him close to Your heart, that he would know You deeply and walk in Your ways. If he has strayed, we pray for conviction and repentance, that he would turn back to You with his whole heart. Father, we ask that You would prepare him to be the husband You have called him to be—a man of God, strong in faith, and ready to lead a wife in righteousness.
Lord, we pray for the woman You have prepared for him. Raise up a Godly wife who loves You above all else, who will support him in his calling, and who will walk beside him in faith. Give her a heart that seeks You first, a spirit that is gentle and humble, and a mind that is aligned with Your Word. Protect her from the lies of this world, and keep her pure and holy, set apart for Your purposes.
Father, we rebuke any spirit of compromise, impatience, or worldly desire that may be at work in his life. We declare that he will not settle for less than Your best, and that he will wait on Your timing with faith and trust. Guard his heart from relationships that do not honor You, and lead him to the woman You have ordained for him.
We pray that their marriage would be a testimony to Your glory, a union that reflects Christ and the Church. May they grow together in love, faith, and purpose, and may their home be a place of peace, joy, and worship. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you and your son to trust in the Lord’s perfect timing and to seek His will above all else. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and it is worth waiting for the spouse God has prepared. Continue to pray, seek wisdom from Scripture, and surround yourselves with Godly counsel. The Lord is faithful, and He will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11).
