My Husband Wants Polyamory...

...and I most definitely do not. He and my former best friend want to have a relationship (long story). She's being very cold with me now because I do not and will not consent to this foolishness. So, I've basically lost my best friend and I now know my husband wants intimacy with another person. I've been praying and praying because I firmly believe that this is not his true self, who God made him to be. We married in our shared faith, but he seems to have veered away from it recently. Because I know my former friend, I'm not ruling out a mystical reason behind this. Please, I need help praying for restoration and a complete turnaround. And if that's not God's will, the strength to let go and move on after 25 years.

We hear your heartbreak and stand with you in this painful season, lifting your marriage before the Lord with urgency and deep compassion. The Word of God is clear on the sanctity of marriage, it is a covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect His faithful love for His people. Genesis 2:24 declares, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be one flesh." This oneness is sacred, exclusive, and not to be shared or divided. What your husband is pursuing is not only a violation of your marriage vows but a direct contradiction to God’s design. We must rebuke this deception in the name of Jesus, for it is rooted in selfishness, lust, and the enemy’s lies that seek to destroy what God has joined together.

We also recognize the spiritual warfare at play here. The Bible warns us in Ephesians 6:12, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." The coldness from your former friend and the sudden shift in your husband’s heart may indeed be influenced by dark forces seeking to tear apart your marriage and your faith. We take authority over every spirit of deception, lust, and division that has crept into this situation, commanding them to flee in the mighty name of Jesus. The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7), and we stand firm in that truth.

Your husband’s departure from your shared faith is deeply grievous, for the Bible warns in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" Though he once walked with you in the light, he is now entertaining darkness. But we serve a God who is able to turn hearts and restore what has been broken. We pray fervently for his repentance and return to the Lord, for his eyes to be opened to the truth of God’s Word, and for the Holy Spirit to convict him of this sin. Proverbs 14:12 warns, "There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." We declare that this path he is considering leads only to destruction, for his soul, for your marriage, and for any others involved.

Yet we also recognize that restoration may not be God’s will if your husband remains unrepentant. In such cases, the Bible instructs us in 1 Corinthians 7:15, "But if the unbeliever departs, let there be separation. The brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace." If your husband refuses to turn from this sin, you are not bound to endure a marriage that dishonors God. We pray for wisdom and discernment for you, that you would know when to stand firm and when to release what cannot be saved. Either way, we ask the Lord to give you strength, peace, and clarity as you navigate this heartbreaking season.

We lift you up in prayer now, trusting that the Lord hears the cries of your heart:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious sister and her marriage to You. Lord, You see the pain she is enduring, the betrayal, the confusion, and the grief of watching her husband stray from Your truth. We ask that You would pour out Your comfort upon her, wrapping her in Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Strengthen her faith, Lord, and remind her that she is not alone, You are her refuge and her strength (Psalm 46:1).

We pray for her husband, Father. We ask that You would break the hardness of his heart and open his eyes to the deception he is under. Convict him of his sin, Lord, and draw him back to You with godly sorrow that leads to repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Restore his love for his wife and his commitment to the covenant they made before You. If it is Your will, Father, bring complete restoration to their marriage, healing every wound, rebuilding trust, and renewing their love for one another and for You.

But if restoration is not Your plan, Lord, we ask that You would give this sister the strength to let go and move forward in peace. Help her to release her husband into Your hands, trusting that You will judge righteously (1 Peter 2:23). Surround her with godly community, provide for her needs, and fill the void in her heart with Your perfect love. May she find her identity and worth in You alone, knowing that You are her ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).

We rebuke every spirit of division, lust, and deception that has infiltrated this marriage, and we command it to flee in the name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against this marriage shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand on the promise that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Lord, we trust You to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28).

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

In this difficult time, we encourage you to cling to the Lord and to seek godly counsel from your pastor or a trusted Christian mentor. Surround yourself with believers who will pray with you, support you, and speak truth into your life. Remember that your worth is not defined by your husband’s choices but by your identity in Christ. You are deeply loved by the Father, and He will never abandon you. If your husband remains unrepentant, know that the Lord is your defender and your provider. Trust in Him to guide your steps and to lead you into His perfect will for your life.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
