My heart and mind

You have set your heart on heavenly things, and this is good. But let no one think he has already attained this perfection. The one who considers himself perfect has not even begun. True heavenly-mindedness forgets what lies behind and strains forward, always knowing that we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. This is what it means to glorify Him: to be fully persuaded that what He has promised, He is able also to perform. Faith of this kind is mightier than any reasoning and brings forth fruit unto eternal life.

Pluck out the thorns of earthly cares, and cast in the heavenly seed. A mind set on glory from above will not plot against a neighbor or grasp after the praise of men, for the lover of glory never obtains it, but he who spurns it receives it abundantly. Seek the things of God, and you gain both the present and the future. The fruit of earthly harvest perishes, but the spiritual harvest is gathered to the life that has neither age nor death.

Show this heavenly mind in your patience. Consider the trials you meet as the dying of Jesus carried in the body, that the life of Jesus may be displayed. In this the poor are supported, God is glorified, and you advance in love to mankind. So do not grow weary: the Husbandman comes and will lay you up in His garner. Do not question overmuch why sufferings come; to abstain from curious questions is to glorify Him.

Let your light shine in good works that men may see and glorify your Father in heaven. And remember that the Lord Himself has promised you the eternal blessings. Stand on those promises, not with a weak and doubting mind, but with a soul lofty and high-born, convinced of His boundless power. Then you will receive the great rewards of patience, and attain the good things which eye has not seen.

What a precious thing it is when someone genuinely resolves to set their heart and mind on things above, not on the fleeting shadows of this world. That desire itself is evidence of the Spirit stirring within you. The world around us pulls so hard toward what is seen and temporary, but you are standing on the promises of God, promises that are utterly unbreakable because He cannot lie. You are seeking something the world can never offer: eternal glory.

Keep your eyes fixed there, because the things we can see and touch are passing away, but what is unseen is eternal. Every affliction you face now, every scorn or reproach you might endure for walking with Jesus, is light and momentary when placed beside the exceeding and eternal weight of glory that is yours in Christ. That is not wishful thinking; it is the certain inheritance of every child of God. You are not just a servant hoping for a distant blessing, you have been made an heir of God, a joint heir with Christ, seated with Him in heavenly places even now. Your hope of eternal life through Jesus is a treasure far beyond any earthly riches, the most valuable thing anyone could possess.

As you set your mind on these heavenly realities, remember that this is a daily battle. The old pull of the flesh wants to occupy your thoughts with the temporary, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. When your mind is governed by the Spirit, it will dwell on what God has done and what He has promised. You look at the cross and see Christ dying for your sins, there is your forgiveness. You see yourself crucified with Him, there is your victory over sin's power. The love of Christ constrains you now, not guilt or fear, but the overwhelming mercy that while you were dead, He died for you so that you might live.

The glory you seek is not a distant cloud; it is found in the face of Jesus Christ. As you behold Him, you are being transformed from one degree of glory to the next, into His very image. You have not arrived yet, but you are on the way, and one day you will see Him as He is. Until then, this treasure, the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ, shines in your earthen vessel, showing that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

So do not let the sufferings or distractions of this age take you under. They cannot compare with the building of God, eternal in the heavens, that awaits when this earthly tent is dissolved. Keep confessing Jesus as Lord, keep believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and stand firm in the certainty that you are accepted in the Beloved. Through all ages, world without end, the church will bring glory to God for His grace toward us through Christ. And you, as part of that redeemed people, will share in that glory forever.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with your heartfelt prayer, lifting up your desire to fix your heart and mind on heavenly things rather than earthly distractions. It has been a privilege to stand with you in agreement before the Lord, asking Him to strengthen your focus on His promises and the eternal glory that awaits. We have prayed that the Holy Spirit would continually renew your mind, helping you to walk in the truth of Colossians 3:2, "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."

If the Lord has already answered this prayer in a tangible way—perhaps by filling you with His peace, granting you moments of clarity, or drawing you closer to His presence—we would love to hear your praise report! Sharing how God is moving in your life encourages all of us to keep seeking Him with faith.

If you feel your heart still wavers or the battle for your focus persists, please know we are here to continue praying alongside you. You are not alone in this journey, and we would be honored to lift this request again, asking the Father to deepen your trust in His faithfulness and to fill you with His perspective. May He remind you daily of the hope you have in Christ and the joy of setting your mind on things above.

We will keep praying that the Lord would guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, that He would fill you with His wisdom, and that every thought would be taken captive to obey Him. May you experience His nearness and the assurance that He is working all things for your good and His glory.

In Jesus' precious name we pray, Amen.
