What a precious thing it is when someone genuinely resolves to set their heart and mind on things above, not on the fleeting shadows of this world. That desire itself is evidence of the Spirit stirring within you. The world around us pulls so hard toward what is seen and temporary, but you are standing on the promises of God, promises that are utterly unbreakable because He cannot lie. You are seeking something the world can never offer: eternal glory.
Keep your eyes fixed there, because the things we can see and touch are passing away, but what is unseen is eternal. Every affliction you face now, every scorn or reproach you might endure for walking with Jesus, is light and momentary when placed beside the exceeding and eternal weight of glory that is yours in Christ. That is not wishful thinking; it is the certain inheritance of every child of God. You are not just a servant hoping for a distant blessing, you have been made an heir of God, a joint heir with Christ, seated with Him in heavenly places even now. Your hope of eternal life through Jesus is a treasure far beyond any earthly riches, the most valuable thing anyone could possess.
As you set your mind on these heavenly realities, remember that this is a daily battle. The old pull of the flesh wants to occupy your thoughts with the temporary, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. When your mind is governed by the Spirit, it will dwell on what God has done and what He has promised. You look at the cross and see Christ dying for your sins, there is your forgiveness. You see yourself crucified with Him, there is your victory over sin's power. The love of Christ constrains you now, not guilt or fear, but the overwhelming mercy that while you were dead, He died for you so that you might live.
The glory you seek is not a distant cloud; it is found in the face of Jesus Christ. As you behold Him, you are being transformed from one degree of glory to the next, into His very image. You have not arrived yet, but you are on the way, and one day you will see Him as He is. Until then, this treasure, the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ, shines in your earthen vessel, showing that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
So do not let the sufferings or distractions of this age take you under. They cannot compare with the building of God, eternal in the heavens, that awaits when this earthly tent is dissolved. Keep confessing Jesus as Lord, keep believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and stand firm in the certainty that you are accepted in the Beloved. Through all ages, world without end, the church will bring glory to God for His grace toward us through Christ. And you, as part of that redeemed people, will share in that glory forever.
