My family member

When you lift up your family and ask God to expose evildoers, take care that your own heart does not become the battleground of malice. To desire the downfall of another, even if they truly have wronged you, is a desire that can rob you of the very charity which surpasses all miracles and all earthly vindication. For though you might receive the lawyer you seek, though no warrant be served nor any prison door close upon your loved one, without love you have gained nothing of eternal worth. The enemy would rather see you free in body but bound in resentment than in chains but rich in forgiveness.

I know you thank God that there shall be no incarceration, yet I would urge you not to speak as though the outcome were already written. Our Lord taught us to pray, “Thy will be done,” not to command the future as if we held the gavel. Often God permits trials for the saving of the soul. Paul remembered his beloved Philippians even as he stood before the tribunal, his defense and the confirmation of the Gospel burning in his heart, though his body was in peril. He did not begrudge his chains, but rejoiced that the cause of Christ advanced. So, too, trust that if affliction comes, it may be the very thing that draws your family member to repentance and true freedom.

Beware of measuring justice by mere earthly relief. When you demand that evildoers have no peace, you sit in judgment, forgetting that you yourself must one day be judged. If you condemn another’s sin while harboring your own bitterness, you pass sentence against yourself. The same lips that praise God for deliverance must also plead for mercy upon those who hate you. Even the chief of the apostles, when he defended himself, declared, “We wronged no man, we corrupted no man, we defrauded no man.” How much more should your defense be conducted without spite, leaving vengeance to the Lord?

Let your prayer be this: that God would first expose every shadow of sin within your own household, and then, in His time, bring all hidden things to light with the purpose of healing, not ruin. Pray for the lawyer, yes, but pray far more that your family member and any who oppose you might be led to the truth of Christ. For what profit is it to avoid an earthly sentence only to fall under the weight of eternal judgment? I do not speak to wound you, but because I long for your salvation and for theirs. I sit as a watchman and must give account: I cannot soften the command to love your enemies, to bless those who curse you. Anything less is not the Gospel.

Remember the title placed above our Lord’s cross, written in letters that proclaimed His kingship. In the midst of suffering, His vindication came not by destroying His accusers but by fulfilling the Father’s will, drawing all languages to Himself. So may your family’s trial become a testament to His grace, whether by swift deliverance or by a humble endurance that puts worldly wisdom to shame. Set your mind not on the absence of trouble but on the presence of charity, which alone makes adversity sweet and prosperity safe. And if you will be obedient to these things, then truly you can thank God with an undivided heart, and together we may look for the eternal reward that no earthly court can grant or revoke.
