Disciple of Prayer
My child eats a very limited variety of foods, refuses to try new foods, and eats very little. I am worried about my child's health. I cry out to God and pray that He will bring a change—that my child will become more open to trying different foods and will also start eating meat.

We hear your heartfelt cry and join you in bringing this concern before our Heavenly Father. Parenting is a sacred trust, and it is natural to feel anxious when our children struggle with something as fundamental as nourishment. We lift your child up in prayer, asking God to open their heart and palate to the foods He has provided for their growth and health.

Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Great Physician, and ask for Your divine intervention in this situation. Lord, You know the needs of this precious child, and You care deeply about their well-being. We ask that You would soften their heart toward trying new foods and give them a desire to eat what is good and nourishing. Remove any fear, stubbornness, or sensory barriers that may be preventing them from expanding their diet. We pray that You would bless the food set before them, that it would strengthen their body and bring health to every part of their being. Lord, we also ask that You would give wisdom and patience to this parent as they navigate this challenge. Help them to trust in You and to lean not on their own understanding, but to acknowledge You in all their ways, knowing that You will direct their paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

We know that every good and perfect gift comes from You, including the food that sustains us (James 1:17). The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are to honor God with them (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). It is important for us to nourish our bodies with the foods You have provided, and we pray that this child would come to understand that truth. We also recognize that food is a gift meant to be received with thanksgiving (1 Timothy 4:3-4), and we ask that this child would develop a heart of gratitude for the nourishment You provide.

We want to encourage you, dear parent, to continue seeking the Lord in this matter. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6). Keep bringing this concern to God in prayer, and seek His wisdom in how to guide your child. You may also consider consulting with healthcare professionals or nutritionists who can provide guidance tailored to your child’s specific needs.

We rebuke any spirit of fear or anxiety that may be trying to take hold in this situation. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare that perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18), and we pray that you would experience God’s peace that surpasses all understanding as you trust in Him (Philippians 4:7).

Finally, we want to remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the foundation of our faith, and it is through Jesus that we can come boldly before the throne of grace to find help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

We continue to pray for your child, that they would grow strong in body, mind, and spirit, and that they would come to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ. May God’s grace and peace be with you as you trust in Him.

We hear the ache in your words, the daily worry when a child won’t eat enough or try new things can wear a parent down. You love your little one deeply, and that love is driving you to your knees, which is a beautiful, hard place to be.

While we join you in asking God to broaden your child’s appetite, we also want to encourage a practical step alongside prayer: consider talking through your concerns with your child’s pediatrician. Sometimes a picky eating phase is just that, but a doctor can check whether there’s an underlying issue like sensory sensitivities, oral-motor challenges, or a nutritional deficiency that needs attention. They may also connect you with a feeding therapist or a registered dietitian who can give you tools to gently expand your child’s food variety without turning mealtimes into a battle. You don’t have to figure this out alone, and seeking that help isn’t a lack of faith, it’s part of how we steward this little life God’s entrusted to you.

In the meantime, we’re praying with you that the pressure eases. You’re not failing your child; you’re a parent who cares enough to cry out to God. That matters.

Jesus, we bring this mom (or dad) and her child before You. You know every bite this little one eats and every anxious thought that keeps this parent awake. We ask for a gentle breakthrough, for curiosity and enjoyment to grow around food, for the appetite to strengthen, and for meat and other nutritious foods to become appealing. Give this parent wisdom to know what’s normal for her child and what needs extra help, and guide the hands of any professionals who come alongside. Most of all, fill this home with Your peace, calmer mealtimes, less fear, and a sense that You are faithfully at work even in this small, daily struggle. We trust You with this child’s health and future. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Please help this child Lord, it's affecting this person and making them worried. Fill this person with peace and joy and do more than they asked, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

There is a cry that rises to heaven from a parent’s heart, and it is not unheard. You pray for your child’s appetite, and you do well, for the Lord invites us to cast all our care upon Him. The child Samuel grew before the Lord, the gift of a mother’s tears and a father’s faithful prayers, yet he needed time before he knew the voice of God and could answer, “Speak, for thy servant heareth.” So your little one is in the hands of Him who tempers all things wisely. Remember the weaned child of whom the psalmist speaks: “My soul is even as a weaned child.” There was once a fretting, a strong desire that cried out; but when weaning came, the child was content, stilled and quieted. Pray that the Lord may bring this same quietness into your child’s spirit toward food. It may please Him to broaden the palate and stir an appetite where now there is refusal, even for meat. Yet this shall be as He wills, and you may trust His timing.

Do not let your anxiety overshadow the far weightier matter. Our Lord Jesus declares, “My flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.” The body’s meat is not meat indeed; it sustains only the frame that crumbles to dust. But to feed upon Christ by faith, to eat His flesh and drink His blood spiritually, is to receive life eternal. While you seek daily bread for your child, seek far more that the child may learn to trust in Jesus, for He is the true sustenance of the soul. The doctrines of grace are strong meat, and babes in Christ may not digest them at first, but there is milk for the little ones. Lead your child gently to the Shepherd, and let the inward nourishment come before all else.

And what of your own soul? The Master had meat to eat that His disciples knew not of: “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me.” In fulfilling your duty as a parent, you too may find secret refreshment. Do not fret as those who have no confidence in a father’s love. The child who lives in full trust asks with expectation and leaves the answer with the father’s wisdom. If you have done wrong in your fretting, confess it quickly, and let your confidence return. Go to your God and say, “Lord, I have laid this need before You; I will now be as a weaned child, for You are good.” He who provides meat for the wilderness and for the royal gardens will not forsake your little one. Continue in prayer, but let your request be made known with thanksgiving, and the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your heart.

Your tears over your child’s eating reveal a heart that loves deeply, but be careful that this sorrow does not become a worldly grief that consumes you. A sufficiency is both nourishment and pleasure; excess brings injury and disease. If your child eats little, perhaps that little is enough for health, for God knows what the body can bear. Do not load it with more than it can digest, lest you overwhelm it. The Lord who fed Israel with manna can sustain your child on what seems meager to you.

Be watchful in prayer, like Hannah, who poured out her affliction before the Lord and offered her child back to Him. Your cries rise to the God of Hosts, and He hears. Yet consider that Christ often healed the father’s sick heart no less than the son’s body. Perhaps this trial is given to teach you to trust Him not for miracles, but for daily bread and for the health of your own soul. Your anxiety may need healing more than the child needs meat. When the Apostle says, “I fed you with milk, not with solid food, for you were not ready,” he speaks of spiritual things, yet the body also has its seasons. Your child may not be ready for strong meat; forcing it could bring distress and sin if it is eaten in doubt. Let the child’s conscience be at peace, and yours as well. Mortify your own desire to control; crucify this anxious appetite with the sword of the Spirit. I join my prayers with yours for health both of soul and body, but remember that while the prayers of the saints avail much, they profit nothing if we ourselves sleep. Wake, then, and trust that the Lord who gives life will also give sufficient nourishment according to His wisdom, not our demands.
